On The Move

Robbie Keane sealed his £6 million move to Birmingham on Friday night, but will anyone be following him in securing a transfer this weekend? Saturday and Sunday usually bring plenty of unexpected rumours; today's highlight being that Inter Milan are preparing a £17 million swoop fpor Gareth Barry.

Could Gareth Barry really be a target for Inter Milan?

23.30: Jermaine Jones to Blackburn, practically a done deal we understand. Hope he doesn't get confused by the presence of another Jones, Phil, in the squad. That's your lot for today, but join us again for more of the same tomorrow.

22.48: Norwich boss Paul Lambert wants to extend Arsenal loanee Henri Lansbury's stay at the club. ''We'd like to keep him here and the good news is that he would like to stay as well, hopefully for the rest of the season,'' he said.

22.11: More on Ruud and his potential transfer to Real Madrid. ''I need a good weekend to mull it over,'' the man himself said. ''It is also not easy for me, it is not any old team who is coming in for me."

HSV sporting director Bastian Reinhardt, however, told Sky that he expects Van Nistelrooy to honour his contract, "There is only one trend: he stays! Of course it is always an honour for a player when a request from Real Madrid comes. But we didn't get any offer yet and also the timing, being so close to the start of the second half of the season, is not perfect, as you can imagine. The player knows that there is an request, but the player also knows that he has a contract."

21.38: Here's our full story regarding Blackburn's imminent signing of Schalke's Jermaine Jones.

20.27: Real Madrid official Jorge Valdano has said it will be "very difficult" to bring Ruud van Nistelrooy back to Spain, but it appears the player has been speaking to the press following Hamburg's win over Schalke. We will bring you those quotes as soon as we get them.

19.43: Jose Mourinho says he would be only too happy to bring Ruud van Nistelrooy back to the club from Hamburg. The full story is here.

18.53: Blackburn manager Steve Kean has confirmed the club are close to signing midfielder Jermaine Jones on loan from Schalke.

18.34: Ian Holloway has had another pop at Aston Villa for their pursuit of Charlie Adam. He said: "You've got every right to ask me the question, but Mr Houllier should not talk about someone else's player when he hasn't put up enough money to buy him. Will I honestly sell him to Aston Villa? The answer is no because I am managing his career. Don't talk about my player and I got the raving hump about it because it's not etiquette and it's wrong."

17.52: Walter Smith says he has "no idea" if Kenny Miller has played his last game for the club. Birmingham have had a bid accepted by the striker, while Fiorentina have also been linked with a move.

17.24: Anderlecht general manager Herman van Holsbeeck says the club will not accept less than £25 million for attacking prodigy Romelu Lukaku, and that the top 15 teams in world football all want the Belgian.

16.43: The agent of Genoa defender Domenico Criscito says AC Milan are in pole position to secure the signing of the Italy international.

15.17: Stoke City have confirmed that their bid for striker Demba Ba has fallen through. Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes said: "Having agreed all the financial terms of the deal with Hoffenheim and the player, he failed his medical. We will therefore not be signing him on a permanent basis."

14.47: Spanish newspaper Marca has polled 50,000 Real Madrid fans and 80% are supportive of an attempt to bring Ruud van Nistelrooy back to the club, as mentioned earlier. Real, of course, are desperate for a new striker in January.

13.46: Former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder Claude Makelele is being linked with a move to LA Galaxy.

13.31: German daily Bild is reporting that Real Madrid are set to make a sensational swoop to bring Hamburg striker Ruud van Nistelrooy back to the Bernabeu.

13.12: Remember, you can add your comments using the tool below - we want to hear your views and also any rumours you may have picked up on the grapevine. Kranthi Chand has offered his view on what Kenny Dalglish needs to do to turn around Liverpool's fortunes:

I wish Liverpool would shift to 4-3-1-2 formation. I would love if they could rope in Taiwo as LB, G.Milito at CB, J.Martinez or Diarra to strengthen the MF. Suarez would be an awesome signing to boost the Strike force. A Left Back is a must, but the rest - I guess they can wait until summer.

13.00: Here's the full story on Jean Makoun's transfer to Aston Villa.

12.45: Sunderland defender George McCartney has rejoined Leeds on loan for the rest of the season.

12.30: Wolves are tracking Lens midfielder Sidi Keita, the uncle of barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita, according to the Daily Mail.

12.11: Aston Villa have completed the £6 million signing of Jean Makoun from Lyon, with the midfielder joining on a three-and-a-half year deal.

11.58: Diego Forlan has played down reports that he is the subject of an offer from Juventus. He was quoted in Gazzetta dello Sport as saying: "I have said it many times, I am fine here and I have no trouble staying. Until now I have not been contacted or received anything concrete. I cannot speak about Italy because there is nothing, it's just rumours."

11.40: The Sun claims that Celtic and Rangers fare chasing Derby midfielder Kris Commons, whose contract expires in the summer.

11.26: Blackburn and Fulham are in the hunt for Espanyol defender Victor Ruiz according to The Times.

11:11: Staying with Italy, Football Italia reports that Gianluigi Buffon's return to first-team action with Juventus may see the departure of the man who has been keeping his gloves warm, Marco Storari. The Bianconeri's reserve goalkeeper has reportedly expressed his unhappiness at the prospect of retruning to the subs' bench.

10.55: Sampdoria's on laon striker Federico Macheda has been impressing the club's boss Domeneco Di Carlo since his short-term move from Manchester United. Di Carlo said: “Macheda is still a little behind the others in terms of match fitness, but he is very eager and motivated. He also comes from a team with a winning mentality and that is very important.”

10.41: Manchester City are ready to finally let Shay Given leave the club, but not until they find an adequate replacement according to The Guardian.

10.28: ESPNsoccernet understands Stoke City’s £7 million 'deal' for Demba Ba is on hold while he undergoes a medical and West Ham are still hopeful of hijacking the Potters' move for the Hoffenheim striker.

10.15: Algeria playmaker Karim Ziani has moved to Turkish high-flyers Kayserispor on an initial six-month loan deal - though there is an option for them to sign him on a full-time basis from Wolfsburg for 2.5 million euros.

10.00: Harry Redknapp says that Tottenham will abandon their loan move for David Beckham. Full story here.

09.48: ESPNsoccernet understands that Blackburn are very close to agreeing a deal for Schalke's USA midfielder Jermain Jones.

09.34: And of course, my favourite of all today - talkSPORT's claim that Inter
Milan are in the hunt for Manchester City's Gareth Barry. For £17 million. Brilliant.

09.20: Let's kick things off by bringing you a round-up of the speculation flying around the English press:

As always, the Daily Mail's rumour mill has been grinding away vociferously, reporting that Manchetser United are preparing to sign Benfica left-back Fabio Coentrao as a replacement for Patrice Evra, who they are expecting to move abroad in the summer.

That very same newspaper believes Aston Villa left-back Stephen Warnock is heading back to Liverpool on loan, meaning that Manuel Figueroa will be brought in from Wigan to take his place, while Manchester United, Chelsea and Inter Milan are all monitoring the progress of Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez.

The Daily Mirror says Chelsea have bid for Steven Pienaar, but that the South African will snub the Blues to sign for Tottenham. And if The Times is to be believed, Spurs will also be swooping for Marseille left-back Tat Taiwo, who is out of contract in the summer.

Jose Mourinho will not be letting Karim Benzema leave the club in January, according to The Independent, but the France striker could be set for more competition for places as the Daily Mail reckons that Real Madrid are upping their efforts to sign Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor on loan.

09.00: Happy Saturday everyone, it's rare that any definitive deals are completed at the weekend but that doesn't stop the rumours flowing. We'll be keeping you updated with all the transfer news and gossip throughout the day.

16 days to go & yet LFC have not make any solid offer for any players linked week in week out. Rumours say that NESV will only hand Dalglish £15m to spend for this transfer window. In that case, LFC should still go for Suarez, the top priority. Then, LFC should instead opt for SWP(£4m), Parker(£10m) & Warnock(loan), linked in today dailies. They are all quality players & should settle down quickly than those foreign players unfamiliar with BPL. Offload the likes of Jovanovic, Cole, Aquilani, Konchesky, Kyriagkos or Skrtel or Agger to generate more funds. Dalglish should even consider letting go Johnson as Kelly has been showing he is more than a capable back-up. It's time to give those youngsters like Pacheco, Shelvey, Wilson & Ayala a chance to shine. Come LFC & NESV !

Is there any news between pieneer and who has signed him?

Inter Milan? Gareth Bale? Why in God's name would this occur?! Inter Milan are struggling (mainly in the offensive department) and yet they're willing to pay 17 mil for a defensive minded midfielder...I'm absolutely dumbfounded.

i think wenger should go for gary cahill...
i'm not saying metrsacker & spahic is not good, but cahill already played in EPL & experienced enough....
plus he's still young & tall.....
surely he'll give some steel in arsenal defense...

Agree with Kranthi. Taiwo at left-back would be great as he will cost lesser than Coentrao or Emanuelson. Bring in Lassana Diarra too. I really hope LFC can show more ambitions & try to rival Man U, Chelsea & Arsenal for Cahill. Maybe Dalglish should try a new 4-2-3-1 formation when come February with this line-up.....Reina, Kelly, Carragher, Cahill, Taiwo, Diarra, Meireles, Gerrard, Kuyt, Suarez, Torres.

I agree that Mourinho wont let Benzema leave especially now with Higuain out for a while with back surgery. They'll write a check for someone in the summer though :)

AS far as Evra Leaving United that would be a shame. Hes been playing well at left back for them. Isnt one Fabio on the back line enough? :)

But then again if it keeps Gary Neville from playing any minutes at right back getting spun around like a turnstile ill be very happy with it.

Tell me who's better in Left back than Marseille's Taye Taiwo? But since he's Nigerian, top flight clubs always turn a blind eye. It's a shame of some sort. Look, a time would come Nigeria will rule the world. Believe me!

Harry Kewell (now free of injury) has been starring for Australia and Galatasaray for the past (6 months). The talk is that it's been almost 6 years since Kewell has been free of injury and now he's stacked on 10kg of muscle. ..... and Liverpool need a striker with some head and... what's more Lucas Neill (former west Ham and Blackburn captain) and hard defender (always liked him, tough tackler) has been starring for the Aussies and Galatasary too). KENNY, get yourself into gear and recruit both for 10M.... get rid of players who are uncommitted and too slow... this is the secret to success.
