Few saw this coming. Reports on Tuesday morning said that Tottenham could be closing in on the signature of none other than Everton's Phil Neville, but David Moyes has since denied that the midfielder was going anywhere.

18.01: Bolton are said to want defender Santiago Gentiletti, who plays in Argentina for Argentinos Juniors, in case Gary Cahill is sold.
17.27: PSV's Erik Pieters is happy about agreeing a new contract with the club. The defender said: "We have reached a verbal agreement on a contract extension until the summer of 2014. This is really good news. We will now have to wait until everything gets official, but I'm very happy with this contract extension.''
17.19: A report in Sovsport suggests that Zenit St Petersburg are interested in signing Cologne striker Lukas Podolski. It would take a big offer to get him away from Germany though.
17.07: Johan Mjallby wants striker Georgios Samaras to stay at Celtic and claims they are in talks over keeping him. He said: "The club and Sammy are in talks. I would be delighted to see him stay. He's on form again. He's one of those players who is a bit of an enigma.''
Meanwhile, he also says that the club are after Brann Bergen forward Erik Huseklepp. ''We are interested in him and we are in talks so we will see what happens,'' he said. ''Before the transfer window opens, you always identify different targets and hopefully this is going to come good for us and we sign him. If not, then we have to go for other people."
16.46: Mario Balotelli is only using Man City as a stepping stone according to his agent, who said: ''His next step will be to prove his worth so that AC Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea or others may have to battle to take him.''
16.26: Aston Villa have reportedly tabled a new, improved offer for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam. They had a £2.5 million bid rejected last week, but now are going back again.
16.14: The one you have all been waiting for. Genoa have landed Slovakia midfielder Juraj Kucka from Sparta Prague for around £3 million.
15.58: Peterborough United's former England Under-21 goalkeeper Joe Lewis has handed in a transfer request after the club rejected an offer from an unnamed Premier League club.
15.46: Genoa are reportedly interested in re-signing Sevilla full-back Abdoulay Konko, though the La Liga side have apparently already turned down a bid of €4.5 million as they are holding out for a figure closer to €6 million.
15.38: Staying in Italy and a potentially huge story should it be true; Francesco Totti wants to leave Roma. Il Corriere dello Sport has reported that Totti, who has been at the Roma since 1992 and is the club's all-time leading appearance maker and captain, has grown tired of life under coach Claudio Ranieri and is considering moving on.
15.21: AC Milan have their eye on Bayern Munich midfielder Mark van Bommel, according to Football Italia. Apparently Rossoneri vice president Adriano Galliani is due to meet the Ductman - who is out of contract in the summer - on Thursday. If that move fails to materialise, though, Milan will swoop for Cagliari's Andrea Lazzari.
15.08: Manchester City new boy Edin Dzeko has taken a swipe at the club's rivals Manchester United at his first press conference in English football. 14.27: Malaga are showing their ambition after being taken over in the summer and are now keen to bolster their defence by bringing in Barcelona's Gabriel Milito on loan until the end of the season.
14.08: David Moyes has told Tottenham that he is not willing to sell Phil Neville. "At no time was any offer made - nor would one have been welcomed. Phil Neville is our captain and is an important part of the Everton set-up," he said. Shame, that could have been rather interesting.
13.54: West Ham's Valon Behrami is a target for Fiorentina, but the club are not holding their breath just yet. "We are hopeful," said club administrator Sandro Mencucci to Rai 3. "But until he is in Florence and he has signed, we cannot be sure."
13.17: Kagisho Dikgacoi's Fulham contract has been extended by 12 months and the decision has confused his agent somewhat. "I have been notified that they have exercised the option on the contract to extend it for a year, but I'm completely bewildered by the news to be honest," said Mike Makaab in the Ealing Gazette.
"KG was not even on the bench for the FA Cup match against Peterborough at the weekend, so for the manager to say he is still in their plans is very surprising, especially because they have just signed another player in his position in Steve Sidwell.''
12.55: Arsenal don't look likely to pick up defender Per Mertesacker this month, as the player has said he wants to focus on Werder Bremen. ''We are in a difficult moment with Werder and we should not be talking about me at this time,'' he told the Kreiszeitung newspaper. ''I am needed here for our day-to-day work and it is my duty to concentrate on that. I cannot deal with anything else.''

12.03: Genoa have confirmed they are chasing the signature of Wigan striker Mauro Boselli. "I like Boselli, he is our aim," said Genoa owner Enrico Preziosi told Primocanale. "He's an interesting player in perspective. He played with (Rodrigo) Palacio (at Boca Juniors), they know each other. We will try to seize the best opportunity."

10.01: With Manchester United obviously on the lookout for a new goalkeeper with the retirement of Edwin Van der Sar edging closer, The Express has a story that they are keen to bring in Scotland international Craig Gordon from Sunderland. But he will cost around £15 million.
09.45: Our source tells us that Newcastle are readying themselves for a clear-out. New boss Alan Pardew is keen to make his mark on the side so a number of players could be let go. Sol Campbell, Xisco, Ryan Taylor and Danny Guthrie are all possible departures.
09.26: Will the rumours over new arrivals at Juventus ever stop? All they need is defenders, but they are again linked with strikers as Liverpool's Fernando Torres is poised to complete a €30 million move, plus Brazilian-born striker Amauri going the other way, according to the Italian media. Nonsense, we say.
09.13: Napoli president Antonio De Laurentiis has said he would not even sell striker Edinson Cavani, who scored a wonderful hat-trick against Juventus at the weekend, to Manchester City. He said in the Daily Mirror: "I wouldn't even sell him for €50m. I would say 'no' if Manchester City wanted him."
08.58: Harry Redknapp has now said it will be "difficult" to sign Phil Neville, but has not ruled out the prospect that the Everton captain will arrive at Spurs.

The Guardian reports that David Beckham is ready to take a pay cut to join Tottenham on loan and that talks with LA Galaxy are to continue on Tuesday. Presumably the chance to play alongside Phil Neville once again will swing this for Becks.
According to The Independent, Wayne Bridge has agreed to join relegation-threatened West Ham on loan from Manchester City after the club agreed to pay all of his £90,000-a-week wages. He is expected to undergo a medical on Tuesday.
Another player on the way out of Manchester City is Shaun Wright-Phillips, with The Sun reporting the winger is poised to link up with his former manager Mark Hughes at Fulham. He could cost in the region of £4 million.
Aston Villa failed with an offer of £2.5 million for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam on Monday but the Daily Mirror reports they will up this to £3.5 million and are hopeful of signing the Scottish star.
Spurs are being continually linked with a move for Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar and the Daily Mirror believes he could move for £1.5 million in January, with Robbie Keane going on loan to Goodison Park.
