23.59 BST: That's it for tonight. Another day of transfer gossip and rumour for you tomorrow.

23.43 BST: West Brom are closing in on the signing of Hull City goalkeeper Boaz Myhill, as Matt Duke will likely take the gloves at the KC next season.

22.45 BST: Robinho will head back to Manchester City after being told that his loan agreement with Santos will be terminated. The news has been confirmed after Soccernet broke the story on Monday night.

22.17 BST: Tottenham's John Bostock is annoyed. Why? Because he's not getting enough first-team chances because of foreign investment! "Some of us have been given first team chances. For instance, Everton's Jack Rodwell has been given a few and he has taken them,'' he said. ''But bits and pieces here and there is not really enough. We look at the foreign contingent over here and it's blocking us. It's frustrating - and it's especially hard when you don't feel like you are given a chance."

21.29 BST: Former Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has been appointed on a two-year contract to become the successor to Roy Hodgson at Fulham.

21.15 BST: Despite words from coach Didier Deschamps this week saying the club have no money to buy players, there are still reports that Olympique de Marseille are attempting to make a deal for Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino, who wants to move on.

20.28 BST: More from Zlatan, this time on David Villa. ''He's a great signing. I'm happy he's here because he is one of the best in the world,'' he said. ''We will be stronger and we'll have more opportunities to win.''

19.59 BST: Fernando Torres' transfer valuation has been downgraded by Chelsea to such an extend that any potential move to the Bridge is virtually dead. A well placed source told ESPNsoccernet: “Chelsea would take Torres, but not for big money any more. Maybe £30 million, no more, but not big money.''

19.45 BST: Dynamo Kiev striker Guilherme won't be moving to CSKA Moscow after talks over a move fell through.

19.06 BST: Inter Milan have made their move for Javier Mascherano, but Liverpool have slapped a £25 million price tag on the head of the Argentine World Cup captain. A well placed source told ESPNsoccernet on Thursday: “Inter want Javier, and have begun the process of trying to buy him. But Liverpool are holding out for a lot of money and want the best deal they can get. Inter don’t have the kind of money Liverpool want unless they can get a massive fee from Manchester City for Mario Balotelli.”

18.27 BST: Ramires has begged Benfica to resolve his transfer saga and release him to his “dream move” to Stamford Bridge. "I have dreamt of playing in the Premier League and now to have the opportunity to play for the best team in the Premier League and for a club with so much history - it would be my dream,'' he said.

18.08 BST: Paddy McCourt has agreed a two-year extension to his current deal with Celtic.

17.59 BST: Emiliano Insua is set to join Fiorentina. Personal terms are believed to have been agreed and only a signature is left...

17.30 BST: Lyon defender Jean-Alain Boumsong is on the verge of sealing a move to Greek side Panathinaikos after landing in Athens this afternoon.

17.27 BST: The Hull Daily Mail understands Boaz Myhill is set to make a £1.5 million move to West Brom tomorrow.

17.17 BST: Carlo Ancelotti seems to think Mario Balotelli to City is a done deal at €35 million and that it's good business all round.

16.55 BST: Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants to draw a line under the rumours and committed his future to “the best club in the world” after having been linked with AC Milan, Manchester City and various other clubs. “I’m a Barca player and I shall remain a Barca player," he said. "[Pep Guardiola] told me I’m important for him, and from now, what I have to do is keep working hard to maintain his confidence. Those rumours have not affected me because I have no doubt that I want to stay here. I’d rather take the rumours as a compliment."

16.45 BST: Catania have signed 22-yeard-old former Argentina Under-20 midfielder Alejandro Dario Gomez from San Lorenzo.

16.33 BST: In managerial news, Mark Hughes is set to be confirmed as the new Fulham boss in the next couple of hours.

16.20 BST: Diego Milito was linked with a move to Real Madrid earlier this summer but he's happy at Inter now. "I'm happy," he told Inter Channel, "happy to be here with my team-mates. I'm delighted to be back and to start getting back to work. I can't wait (for the new season)."

16.10 BST: Violanews.com seems to think Arsenal could offer €10 million plus Gael Clichy for €18 million-rated Juve midfielder Felipe Melo. Hmm.

16.02 BST: The confusion over Inter defender Maicon's future reigns with Real Madrid and Manchester City apparently battling it out for his rather expensive signature.

15.55 BST: Cesc Fabregas gives the latest on his love triangle here.

15.50 BST: David Beckham “has no interest in leaving the Los Angeles Galaxy” and has had no contact with West Ham, according to his spokesman.

15.44 BST: Juventus starlet Giovinco would definitely be up for a move to Arsenal by the sounds of things. Agent Luca Pasqualin told the Sun: "I have heard of contact indirectly regarding Arsenal but I have not received direct contact from the club.
"We are waiting to see who is formally interested, because he will definitely be leaving Juventus this summer. If the interest of Arsenal is concrete, Giovinco would be interested because Arsenal are one of the top clubs in Europe. If I hear of something directly from Arsene Wenger or a representative from Arsenal, we would put all our attention on to the situation."

15.33 BST: Monaco have now agreed a deal to keep Zenit defender Sebastien Puygrenier on loan.

15.26 BST: Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson, released by Wigan, is said to have begun talks with French side Sochaux.

15.16 BST: Bild gives us the 'truth' on Mesut Ozil. The Germany and Werder Bremen playmaker is, of course, out of contract in a year and reports have claimed Real Madrid have agreed a pre-contract. That talk is all lies, apparently. His fee is €16 million, but while the likes of Tottenham and Sevilla are said to be interested, he'll only join a club with a realistic chance of winning the Champions League, which means Barcelona, Madrid and Manchester United are options. Bild says Arsenal and Manchester City are also in the mix but hasn't told us whether he'd consider them realtic contenders.

15.05 BST: Juan Roman Riquelme has committed his future to Boca Juniors by signing a four-year deal, and his agent has told Sky Sports News that he got tired of waiting for West Ham to make him a proper offer.

14.50 BST: Manchester City target James Milner is back with the Aston Villa squad after the World Cup and, if no news is good news, it's good news for Villa fans. "I have got really no more news," Martin O'Neill said on the club's official website. This transfer window will burst into life any second now.

14.35 BST: Carlo Ancelotti says Chelsea were never close to signing Mario Balotelli, who's set to join City in the near future. He added in La Stampa: "City have spent the most in Europe and they will be fighting for the title."

14.26 BST: Juventus starlet Sebastian Giovinco’s agent says it's a shame he's set to leave the club amid interest from Parma and Bari. Andrea D’Amico said: “It’s a shame that you sacrifice such an important player because he doesn’t figure in the team’s plans. Giovinco hasn’t had the continuity that other young players have had. If I were Del Neri, I’d start with the youngsters, but the coach has other ideas."

14.22 BST: Ipswich boss Roy Keane has confirmed striker Jon Stead could be on his way to Blackpool.

14.10 BST: Sky Sports News claims Liverpool's bid to sign Luke Young has collapsed as the Aston Villa full back does not want to move his family north.

14.03 BST: Lancashire Telegraph says Brian Laws wants to bolster his squad with loan signings from the Premier League, and Chelsea's Jack Cork could be set to return to Turf Moor for a spell.

13.58 BST: Writing in the Evening Standard, Spain-based journalist Graham Hunter says Cesc Fabregas is expected to tell Arsene Wenger he wants to join Barcelona at a meeting on Friday. As Wenger already knows that and Barca don't appear to have the free funds to pay the market price for the Arsenal captain, the news that he won't hand in a transfer request suggests it will be of little consequence.

13.50 BST: Phil Neville says Steven Pienaar and Mikel Arteta should stay at Everton. “We want them to stay and that’s the bottom line. The manager and fans obviously want them to stay," he said in the Liverpool Echo. “If we keep everybody together these boys can win silverware at this club and that’s what they should remember.”

13.45 BST: Paraguay defender Paulo Da Silva expects to stay at Sunderland. He said: "I also know that there have been some proposals, that some offers arrived at the club for me, but I think that the club doesn't have in mind letting me go as the league is about to begin, but if an offer arrives and it's something useful for the club and for me, then maybe we'll have some talks."

13.28 BST: Mainz have apparently agreed the fee and personal terms for 20-year-old AC Milan striker Dominic Adiyiah, but the club’s general manager, Christian Heidel, seems a little confused as to whether they're actually buying him. “We are not putting ourselves under any pressure,” he told Kicker. “He is one of several options. We still have to consider whether we want to sign a young striker or rather an experienced player."

13.22 BST: going back to Belgian news, reports in recent days have suggested Birmingham are keen to sign Moussa Dembele from AZ Alkmaar. Apparently AZ haven't included him in their Europa League squad and he doesn't look set to play any official games, so seems he's almost certainly off somewhere.

13.11 BST: Another update - of sorts - on the Balotelli to City situation. Roberto Mancini's been asked what's going on and told Sky Sports News: "I don't know at this moment." Asked if he was optimistic over the deal, he said: "Yeah, yeah. Sure." Thrilling stuff.

13.09 BST: Our man in Belgium says the word over there is that Sevilla want Standard Liege duo Sebastien Pocognoli and Axel Witsel, while Standard are after Sevilla's Belgian midfielder Tom De Mul.

13.00 BST: Tottenham's interest in Spartak Moscow 'keeper Stipe Pletikosa is well known, but his agent claims Celtic want him on a season-long loan deal. "Stipe has a definite offer from Tottenham," Marko Najetilic said in the Daily Record. "However he knows all about Celtic and that would be something of real interest to him. But there has been no official offer made by Celtic to me. We hope to have agreed his next move within the next 72 hours. It could be an interesting couple of days."

12.55 BST: Reports from Italy suggest Mario Balotelli could complete his move to City within hours.

12.50 BST: We told you a few days ago that City had ordered Robinho to return, and Roberto Mancini has now said: "The situation is that Robinho will finish his contract with Santos. After that he will stay in Brazil for another week, play for the national team and after that he will return to Manchester City."

12.38 BST: Spurs are said to be interested in Micah Richards, but it seems Roberto Mancini is not looking to sell him.

12.35 BST: Portuguese daily A Bola reports that Ramires may decide to stay at Benfica for another season, rather than moving to Chelsea for £20 million this summer. That would be a bit of a blow to Carlo Ancelotti, who has targeted the Brazilian as a replacement for Michael Ballack.

12.30 BST: Celtic have announced the signing of Israel midfielder Beram Kayal. The 22-year-old has signed a four-year contract after completing his move from Maccabi Haifa, subject to final paperwork.

12.28 BST: Birmingham keeper Colin Doyle has linked up with League One side Plymouth on a week's trial. The 25-year-old played 45 minutes of last night's friendly clash with Hereford.

12.25 BST: Mido could be denied a return to Ajax, though, as the Dutch club have so far failed to agree terms with Middlesbrough. "There has been no financial agreement between both clubs until now," Mido told FilGoal.com. "The deal could fall through. I'm staying at Middlesbrough until further notice."

12.15 BST: Ajax’s Miralem Sulejmani remains a target for West Ham United. The Hammers have failed with one offer for the striker but Sulejmani says a deal could still be on. “I wait now and I focus on Ajax,” Sulejmani told Voetbal International. “The clubs and my manager are working on it.”

12.03 BST: It is expected to be a busy summer for Inter and Dirk Kuyt and Javier Mascherano remain targets for former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez. The Nerazzurri will also lose Maicon to Real Madrid and Corriere della Sera reports they will target Manchester United’s Patrice Evra as a replacement. That would mean Javier Zanetti moving to right back.

11.53 BST: Reports in Spain suggest Carlos Marchena of Valencia - the player who has never tasted defeat in over 50 caps for Spain - will come in as Godin’s replacement at Villarreal.

11.37 BST: AS reports that Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal with Villarreal for defender Diego Godin, but they only hold 50% of his rights. The Uruguay star’s agent, Paco Casal, holds another 30% and Atleti canot reach agreement with him. However, Rennes right-back Rod Fanni has turned down Sunderland and West Ham in order to pursue his dream of a move to the Vicente Calderon.

11.31 BST: After signing Marcos Alonso from Real Madrid, Owen Coyle is still hoping to bring in further signings at Bolton. “I’m always looking to improve and I’m not finished yet,” Coyle told the Bolton News. “It’s easy to say there will be two or three new signings - but what I can say is that I’ll look to add a couple more before the end of the month.” Spain Under-19 star Rodrigo Moreno is a target, even though he is expected to seal a move to Benfica, while Nicky Hunt should join Bristol City and Jlloyd Samuel is reported to be close to a move to Newcastle.

11.19 BST: Both Chelsea and Juventus have been linked with a move for Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul but the Dutchman has signed a new four-year contract. "I am delighted to commit my future to Newcastle United,” Krul said. “Hopefully I can fulfill my dream by becoming the future number one goalkeeper as well as getting into the Dutch national team squad.”

10.55 BST: It remains to be seen if Tasci will join Arsenal, but Stuttgart will certainly lose Sami Khedira by the looks of things as sporting director Fredi Bobic has confirmed the player wants to move to Real Madrid this summer.

10.49 BST: The agent of Germany international Serdar Tasci says the Stuttgart defender has "huge respect" for Arsenal. Do we expect him to be turning up at Emirates Stadium any time soon? The Gunners could do with a new centre back after Sol Campbell turned then down.

10.36 BST: Avram Grant has reiterated that he wishes to retain Scott Parker after Tottenham failed with a bid for the West Ham midfielder on Wednesday.

10.24 BST: There is a brilliant story in Sport this morning that details how Eric Abidal returned to pre-season training with Barcelona unaware that his defensive colleague Dmytro Chygrynskiy had been sold back to Shakhtar Donetsk! “When I arrived on Monday I asked for him, because I did not see him,” Abidal said. “I imagined that he was injured.”

10.07 BST: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Spurs have all been linked with Germany World Cup star Mesut Ozil but Werder Bremen are yet to receive any formal interest. General manager Klaus Allofs said in AS: “We do not have any offers for Ozil.”

09.54 BST: It wouldn’t be a transfer blog without an update on the Cesc Fabregas situation and Mundo Deportivo gets all excited by the news that the midfielder will finish his holiday in Greece and return to London on Thursday. Sport further claims he will hold talks with Arsene Wenger about his future on Friday, and it appears it will be down to the player to declare he is determined to move to Camp Nou. But will he risk attracting the anger of Arsenal fans, even though he may yet remain in North London for another year?

09.35 BST: Here's a bit more from Roberto Mancini's interview regarding Mario Balotelli. “We are looking for a striker and he is one of those we are tracking,” he told Corriere dello Sport. “Good players are good wherever they play and he is capable of proving himself in England, but for now he’s an Inter player.”

09.27 BST: Mainz are still considering whether to recruit Ghana international Dominic Adiyiah from AC Milan. A deal has been reached with the club and player but Mainz are now debating whether to push the move through.

09.09 BST: Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has told AS that Ricardo Carvalho is one of the “best” players in his position in the world. Carvalho has already said he wants to join Real this summer and has been given permission to leave Chelsea, so it appears a deal could be done.

08.46 BST: West Brom have been accused of trying to sign Eric Djemba-Djemba at a knockdown price by claiming the move from Odense broke down on medical grounds.

08.30 BST: USA star Landon Donovan has revealed he is weighing up his options for a move to Europe. “We have had transfer interest and we will have some time to think about it and see where it goes. There is interest from a number of teams," he told Reuters.

07.41 BST: Thiago Silva's agent says that Real Madrid want to sign the Milan defender - but the asking price of €25 million could be a sticking point. Paulo Tonietto said: "Barcelona? Only speculation, but there is interest from Real Madrid, who is dealing directly with Milan. A Madrid manager came to ask about the situation of Thiago, and I told him that apart from being flattered by the interest of a team like Real, he has a contract until 2013 and is at ease in Italy. I do not know if Milan will accept, it does not depend on me or Thiago. It's a deal that is developing between the two presidents."

07.15 BST: Another day, and another few dollars will be spent in the transfer market no doubt. Let's take a look at Thursday morning's paper talk:

The Sun: West Ham accuse Spurs of trying to destabalise Scott Parker ... Sir Alex: We don't need to spend ... Beckham to make decision on West Ham ... Bristol City want David James ... Man United are chasing Anthony Annan ... Arsenal track Germany's Serdar Tasci ... Besiktas eye John Carew.

Daily Mail: Spurs to bid £4 million for Craig Bellamy ... Rafa to raid Liverpool for Kuyt ... West Ham boss Avram Grant wants free agent Laurent Bonnart.

Daily Mirror: Liverpool set to bid for Villa's Stiliyan Petrov to replace Mascherano ... Young's Liverpool move in doubt over Villa pay-off ... Galatasaray want Blackburn's Vince Grella ... Coventry lead the chase for Marlon King as he leaves jail ... Blackpool in talks with Jon Stead ... Stoke want Jonathan Walters from Ipswich.

Daily Star: Wigan make £7 million record bid for Chile World Cup striker Humberto Suazo ... Chelsea hope to sign Ramires by the weekend.

Guardian: Parker wants to hear Tottenham offer ... Garrido set to leave Man City for Lazio in £2.5m deal ... Stoke line up move for City's Santa Cruz

Independent: Promoted trio struggle to bring in reinforcements.

Man united would make a good signing of Antony Annan, because he plays almost like Essien.

Posted by MonkeY on 07/29/2010

Ben Arfa would be a great signing for Newcastle. We should sign him and Tom Clevery(Manchester United)>

I was trying to figure out why Sir Alex Ferguson watching a game involving Wolfsburg would imply interest in someone who plays for Werder Bremen, but then I checked and found out that Fulham actually played Bremen and the author is a moron.
