23.59 BST: Following that late flurry of activity, it's time to bid you all goodnight. Join us tomorrow for more news and gossip from around the globe.
23.57 BST: The Daily Telegraph says Arsenal had a £10 million bid for Phil Jagielka rejected in June and are now likely to make an improved bid as Sol Campbell's off to Newcastle.
23.48 BST: ...and just to update that one, the Daily Mirror says he was left out of Villa's touring squad today ahead of the potential move.
23.42 BST: Well, that's not what Liverpool fans wanted to hear. The Guardian says they've agreed a £2.5 million deal with Aston Villa for Luke Young. Young's been told he's not needed at Villa Park, Liverpool have a lack of full backs and Roy Hodgson tried to sign him for Fulham, so it's entirely possible it's true.
23.18 BST: Espanyol have completed the signing of Real Mallorca right-back Felipe Mattioni. Mattioni, 21, has signed a five-year deal.
22.35 BST: Mancini wants to fight for his future at Inter, according to his agent. “He is an Inter player and he’ll give everything he has in order to demonstrate, with his skills, that he is worthy,” agent Roberto Calenda told Sky Sport Italia. “We do have offers, he is always a wanted player, but for now he is working hard for Inter. Inter did well to sign him in the first place because half of Europe wanted him, including the Liverpool side of Benitez.”
21.20 BST: Goal.com UK reports that Tottenham want Luis Suarez, Craig Bellamy and Micah Richards this summer. Suarez has said he'd like to join Spurs, while Bellamy and Richards could find themselves surplus to requirements at Eastlands as Roberto Mancini tries to trim his senior squad to 25. Harry Redknapp told Soccernet Bellamy's wages would probably be prohibitive, though, while Mancini has said he wants to keep Richards.
21.15 BST: Inter president Massimo Moratti has said Mario Balotelli is "not essential" and admitted they want to raise transfer funds for fresh targets. "You have to sell the player who is in demand, not the one you want to sell but no one wants," he told Sky Italia. He also suggested Dirk Kuyt could be a target as, asked about the Liverpool man, he said they're looking for someone effective for the team rather than a star player.
20.55 BST: Marca claims Real Madrid and Manchester City are battling it out for Benfica defender David Luiz. City have apparently had a €33 million offer rejected, with the player's release clause apparently standing at €50 million. For his part, David Luiz seems keen on a move to the Bernabeu, saying: "I'd like to play with Kaka."
20.35 BST: Bologna have confirmed they have signed Rene Krhin in a co-ownership deal with Inter Milan, with youngster Lorenzo Paramatti going the other way. United, Chelsea and Liverpool were said to want Krhin. More here.
20.24 BST: Interesting report in El Mundo Deportivo. While not quite admitting the Cesc Fabregas move is dead (they claimed he has a "secret agreement" with Barca), they're now suggesting Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna could join. He's 34, has one year left on his contract and therefore would cost about €2 million, apparently.
20.04 BST: Following up on the unsubstantiated John Utaka stuff below, here's some quotes from the Portsmouth attacker: "My manager is looking into the offers before him. We have had Sunderland, Fulham and Bolton and some clubs in Germany. I would like to stay in the Premier League. It is quick, aggressive and direct and there are loads of goals every week and, yes, the money in England is also good."
19.45 BST: Sticking with Forest, midfielder Chris Cohen has played down talk he might join Bolton. "A lot of that's paper talk and not true," he told Sky Sports News.
19.41 BST: We mentioned an Express story earlier about Forest defender Kelvin Wilson going on strike to force a move to Celtic. Forest boss Billy Davies says it's nonsense: "It would be difficult for him to go on strike when he's carrying an injury because he can't play anyway."
19.27 BST: Real Mallorca have announced the signing of midfielder Jonathan de Guzman from Feyenoord on a free transfer.
19.06 BST: Wesley Sneijder's agent has again rejected talk the player wants to leave Inter. "This is one of those years in which everything is beautiful and perfect. It's difficult that Wesley will forget everything that has happened this year," Soren Lerby told Calcionews24.com. "He has made history and everyone is happy for that. His future is with Inter. There are no doubts or problems about this."
18.47 BST: Israel midfielder Biram Kayal has taken a step closer to joining Celtic after flying into Glasgow today with his agent to finalise his transfer from Maccabi Haifa.
18.35 BST: Portsmouth have signed Stoke defender Ibrahima Sonko on a season-long loan. More here.
18.19 BST: The Mirror seems to think Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne is a target for Sporting. That'd be a turn up.
17.30 BST: Real Sociedad have confirmed their interest in signing Liverpool's Dani Pacheco, most likely on a loan deal.
16.33 BST: Mario Miele, the agent of Kevin-Prince Boateng, says that both Liverpool and Everton are interested in signing the Portsmouth player.
16.27 BST: Fiorentina have suggested that they are having troubled agreeing personal terms with Emiliano Insua. Could the move break down? "We have an agreement with the English club, but we have to find an understanding with the player in terms of wages," he said on Quotidianopuglia.it. "We cannot guarantee him the figures that he gets at Liverpool." More here.
16.21 BST: Burnley have completed the signing of Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant for an undisclosed fee.

14.55 BST: Reader Eli gives us his considered view about Liverpool’s summer activity so far. But as for his extended metaphor, it’s like pulling teeth...
"As a Liverpool fan I'm getting more and more concerned with the hole at Left-Back and could care less about what happens with Torres. If he wants out let him go, if not, keep him. Many fans have praised Insua and Arbeloa but the Reds haven’t really had a solid presence at the position since John Arne Riise left in 2008. I’m excited about the new squad but anxious about that cavity in the back line getting bigger. Hopefully Hodgson’s willing to provide a permanent filling, as opposed to the temporary fillings of the past; otherwise I fear the team will need a root-canal in order to get back to the Champions’ League!"
14.42 BST: Both La Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere della Sera believe that Inter Milan and Real Madrid have agreed a fee for the transfer of Maicon.

"Cagliari Calcio take note of the fact that Federico Marchetti has expressed his wish to leave due to his declaration with the press," a statement read. "The club will do everything to make him content. Should Marchetti really have to leave Cagliari, then the regular keeper will be Agazzi. Cagliari aren't looking for another keeper."
13.34 BST: Bolton Wanderers have sealed the signing of Marcos Alonso from Spanish giants Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee. Coyle told the club's official website: "He is an exciting young player who has undoubted quality and he will bring that into our mix. I think that we have a real talent on our hands. He isn't the finished article yet - he's a young player making his way - but you don't get through at Real Madrid without having a bit about you."

"I would definitely look at it with being there last season. With not being from the Derby area, I didn't realise before just how well supported the club were. They've got a great stadium and great training facilities, and I'm sure they'll be looking to push on next season."

"The team has been together for a number of years and done very well. In order to improve it a player has to be of a very high quality."
11.06 BST: An update on Hatem Ben Arfa, with Newcastle confirmed as one of the club's interested: The player's agent, Frederic Guerra, is quoted by tuttomercatoweb: "Newcastle are not the only club interested in him, there are also three German clubs and other French clubs. We have seen Milan four times; in the last conversation they said to me that the player was of interest, but they can't do the business at this time. As an agent, I couldn't ask the reason. The player doesn't have a problem with clubs to choose from and hasn't got a problem with Marseille letting him go."
11.01 BST: No end in sight to the Nicolas Burdisso transfer saga as Roma continue to be linked with the Argentina international. "Nico is unhappy about this situation and he is unhappy with Inter as they have never called. The same with Roma," his agent, Fernando Hidalgo, told Tuttosport. "Roma promised us a tranquil summer, instead in three months they have never sat at the table with Inter. It's not true that myself and Burdisso were ready to speak with [Massimo] Moratti. The Telegraph: Roberto Mancini expects to be reunited with Inter Milan forward Mario Balotelli any day now, but City are currently unwilling to match his demands for £3 million-a-year wages. Not bad for a 19-year-old. Once the Balotelli deal goes through, Inter are expected to offer £25 million for Javier Mascherano after the midfielder asked to leave Anfield.
Daily Mirror: Tottenham and Manchester United are believed to be fighting it out for Germany star Mesut Ozil, though we reckon a move to Spani is more likely. Mario Balotelli has turned down more money from Manchester United in order to work under Roberto Mancini again. Meanwhile, Tottenham have emerged as possible suitors for West Ham midfielder Scott Parker, though the Hammers want at least £15 million.
The Sun: The Premier League will closely monitor Chelsea’s bid for Ramires as Kia Joorabchian - the man who brought Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano to West Ham - owns 50% of the player. Liverpool are looking to up their efforts to sign PSV’s Mexico international Carlos Salcido as they seek a solution to their problems at left back.
Daily Mail: Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia is wanted to Osasuna. The Spaniard has been told he is no longer automatic first-choice by Arsene Wenger. Sunderland, Fulham and Bolton are all fighting to sign John Utaka, despite his minimal impact for Portsmouth last season.
07.10 BST: Good morning. We will be guiding you through another day of transer gossip and taking a look at the morning's newspapers in a few minutes, but just to whet your appetite, The Guardian reports this morning that Chelsea will sign Benfica and Brazil midfielder Ramires later this week.
