17.45 BST: Real Madrid have been cleaning house, and Guti has now put pen to paper on a deal with Besiktas... at last!

17.05 BST: A source has told ESPNsoccernet: “There is no doubt that the one Mancini would like is Torres, but as he has already made it clear if he does leave Anfield, it would not be for City, then Dzeko is the man.'' Wonder where that puts Balotelli in the pecking order?

16.33 BST: It looks like Rafael van der Vaart will not be heading to England. He claims to have been misquoted and he insists he will be staying with Real Madrid. He told: De Telegraaf: "I'm determined to stay at Real Madrid. I want to stay here and succeed at Real. It's a shame that the English press has misquoted me. They've written things that are simply not true."

16.21 BST: Here's a comment on Liverpool from Benjy:

Liverpool need to do everything they can to keep Torres happy and put to bed the long saga of "will he stay or will he go?". From a football standpoint, a healthy Torres is one of the premier strikers in the world and can be a huge part of bringing cups to Liverpool. From a financial perspective, surely the owners must know that the club loses some value and some prestige if they lose their (arguably) best player. The powers that be have kept Reina and Gerrard and now need to focus all energy on Torres. Also, can LFC please just buy a left back and end that speculation as well?

16.09 BST: Striker Rob Hulse is again being linked with a move from Derby County to Blackpool. Ian Holloway still has Francis Jeffers on trial too.

15.41 BST: Aston Villa have held what the club describe as "amicable" talks with Manchester City target James Milner and the midfielder will be a member of Martin O'Neill's squad for a pre-season tournament in Portugal.

15.33 BST: And on the West Ham front, we have quotes from Nice chairman Gilbert Stellardo about striker Loic Remy: "West Ham? Remy is definitely interested,'' he told L'Equipe. "Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal? I have heard about their interest but I have had no contact. The only clubs I have talked to are West Ham and Fenerbahce."

15.33 BST: West Ham manager Avram Grant hopes to add more players to his squad before the start of the season. "The squad is not complete yet, we told the players we want to make the squad as strong as we can,'' Grant told the club's official website. "Even if the club are limited with money, because we are in debt, we know what we are doing and we know we want to do."

15.21 BST: Premier League clubs are said to be tracking Argentina prospect Mikhail Colombo, who is 16 and has an Italian passport. He's on the books of Independiente.

15.14 BST: Anderlecht have revealed that Czech Republic midfielder Jan Polak is heading to Galatasaray.

14.56 BST: Hoffenheim have sent midfielder Franco Zuculini on loan to Serie A with Genoa for the season.

14.49 BST: Reports coming out of Lancashire tell us that Wigan and Newcastle United are locked in battle to sign high-rated youngster Tom Cleverley on loan from Manchester United. He was superb with Watford last term,

14.32 BST: There seems to be a lot of interest in Juve striker David Trezeguet but his agent says no offer has been accepted. Antonio Caliendo told Tuttomercatoweb.com: "Trezeguet is part of [coach Luigi] Del Neri's plans. And one offer from the USA and two from Turkey have been rejected. One was from Fenerbahce, and the other was a mega-galactic offer from Trabzonspor. In any case he has a contract with Juventus and he intends to respect that."

14.19 BST: Interesting quotes here from Raul. He says a move to England is possible so maybe he won't go to Schalke? "The German team is interested in me and I have had very deep discussions with them,'' he said. "In a few days I will know whether I'll be going to the Bundesliga, but there are other teams that are also interested. What is clear is that my future lies in Germany or England,''

14.04 BST: Here's an email from Tabeeb:

Sir Alex, what are you doing? Why aren't you buying anyone else?? The only players you bought are the Mexican guy and Chris Smalling. Chelsea, Liverpool and City your rivals are spending money like crazy. Why don't you?? City already spent 77 million. And we do not have all we need to win the Premier League.

14.04 BST: Millwall have agreed a fee with Reading to sign winger James Henry.

13.59 BST: Coventry City have signed Everton striker Lukas Jutkiewicz for an undisclosed fee. He was on loan at Motherwell last season.

13.44 BST: You're not going to believe this. The Daily Star carries quotes from Royston Drenthe with the Real Madrid full-back stating he has signed for Liverpool. Now, where did they get those quotes from? Yes, his Facebook status. From 11 days ago. On a fake Facebook account, it seems. The Star quotes: "I will soon be joining Liverpool. I hope I will have a good season with my new club," And less reputable websites are running the story as fact.

12.39 BST: Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne could be ready to leave the club. “I’ve been at Chelsea since I was a kid and I’d love to break into the first team, but it’s hard for any young player knowing how much quality they’ve got,” said Mancienne. “I’ve had two seasons on loan at Wolves and had regular games and really enjoyed it. Now I want to be settled at one club.”

12.31 BST: Could Juventus be ready to offer Christian Poulsen to Liverpool in a bid to sign Dan Agger from the Anfield club? That's what the Daily Mail thinks.

12.19 BST: Wolfsburg striker Grafite has been linked with a move to Russia with Rubin Kazan.

12.09 BST: More from Corriere dello Sport with the paper claiming that West Ham's Valon Behrami is prepared to wait to win a move to AS Roma. He is surplus to requirements at Upton Park.
