23.59 BST: A quiet Thursday night here at Soccernet Towers. We'll be back in the morning will the next batch of transfer talk.

23.26 BST: Nemanja Vidic's agent insists there has been no contact from Real Madrid: "Real Madrid? So far the Spanish club has not contacted us," Silvano Martino told Itasportpress.it. "The player is on holiday in Mallorca and he is thinking about next season with Manchester United. It is difficult for him to leave England even if with the market open anything can happen."

22.57 BST: Filipe Luis has signed for Atletico Madrid, subject to a medical. He moved from Deportivo La Coruna in a deal reputed to be worth £9.2 million.

22.31 BST: More from Real Madrid's Emilio Butragueno. With Raul on his way out this summer, he told Eurosport: "For us he is more than a symbol, he is part of the club’s history, of the badge. He is an example for all, for the youth and future generations. We left any decision with Raul, so he could decide what is best. All we want is that he knows the debt we will always owe him."

22.09 BST: Aston Villa, of course, would need a replacement for James Milner. And the early whispers are that Martin O'Neill will head on back to Celtic to sign Aiden McGeady.

21.41 BST: Roberto Mancini appears ready to make a new bid for James Milner after Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill confirmed the player wants to join Manchester City. "If we have this chance [to sign Milner] I think we can take him, but we must wait now," Mancini said.

21.21 BST: The father of Brazilian wonderkid Neymar is a little angry that Santos rejected Chelsea's £20 million offer on Tuesday. "Santos just said 'no' before even talking with us," he told Lancenet. "Why would they do that? They must listen to Neymar to know what he has to say about it."

20.57 BST: And now a less-than-exciting update to the Mario Balotelli tale. Inter chief Massimo Moratti has said: "At this moment there are contacts with Manchester City, but we must find an agreement that satisfies both us and them."

20.49 BST: Real Madrid director Emilio Butragueno seems to be hedging his bets over the Maicon saga. "What has to be done is to continue shoring up the squad and it's not necessary this has to be achieved with super-famous players," he told Radio Marca. "What we need is to constantly increase our competitiveness."

20.37 BST: Portsmouth midfielder Papa Bouba Diop has now completed his move to AEK Athens. Contrary to reports on lesser media outlets, it was signed and sealed today.

20.19 BST: Israeli International defender Dekel Keinan is expected to sign for Blackpool on Friday.

20.06 BST: Stoke City are poised to make a £14 million offer for West Ham's forgotten England striker Carlton Cole. Soccernet can exclusively reveal that Stoke are contemplating lodging a bid of £9-10 million up front plus a further £4 million worth of add-ons, which will be based upon their success with Cole in the side.

19.51 BST: Here's an email we've just received from Alex:

I am a Yanks fan, and I agree with Harkes 100%, but Man City isn't the place for Donovan. Everton, Aston Villa, or Liverpool would be good options though.

19.35 BST: Landon Donovan must grasp the opportunity to return to the Premier League should the opportunity arise, according to former United States captain John Harkes. Harkes, who played in the top flight for Sheffield Wednesday and Derby, said: "Obviously it depends on what he wants as an individual but if the opportunity presents itself for him to take that challenge he needs to do it now."

19.29 BST: We're hearing reports that Chievo Verona have completed the signing of Mariano Bogliacino from Napoli.

19.25 BST: West Bromwich Albion could offer a contract to Geroge Boateng, who is a free agent after being released by Hull City last month.

19.22 BST: Here's a story not to believe from the Daily Star. The paper claims that Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia is more likely to leave the Emirates after he was, er, left out of last night's friendly against Sturm Graz.

19.11 BST: It seems that Andranik Teymourian, one time of Bolton and, so we are told, on the books of Fulham last season has turned down the chance of an extended trial back in Lancashire with Blackburn Rovers.

19.06 BST: We're hearing that Spanish winger Albert Riera has landed in Greece as he looks to end his Liverpool nightmare with a move to Olympiakos.

18.47 BST: Wolfsburg are confident that star names Edin Dzeko and Zvjezdan Misimovic will remain at the club, with managing director Dieter Hoeness quashing all rumours linking them with transfers.

18.22 BST: Motherwell have demanded Cardiff settle a "substantial'' overdue instalment of the transfer fee due for defender Paul Quinn.

17.41 BST: Barcelona striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be joining the club's fierce rivals, Real Madrid, the player's agent Mino Raiola has confirmed. ''I have never spoken to Madrid or about a possible swap with Kaka. I don't know anything about this issue,'' he told COM Radio. ''Zlatan has a contract with Barca and he wants to show his quality when he is at 100%. Ibra is totally focused on the team and is anxious to start the season as a Barca player.''

17.32 BST: Juventus have yet to seal a deal for Milos Krasic and now the CSKA Moscow star is attracting attention from Atletico Madrid.

17.07 BST: Liverpool are reportedly prepared to offer Nabil El Zhar and Damien Plessis as a part of the deal to sign Nice striker Loic Remy.

16.37 BST: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson intends to send striker Danny Welbeck and midfielder Tom Cleverley on loan to Premier League clubs in the coming season.

16.24 BST: Wigan have completed the signing of Paraguay defender Antolin Alcaraz, after he was granted a work permit.

16.13 BST: Ally McCoist admits he is excited by Brett Holman - but insists Rangers are not close to signing the Australia striker. ''I saw him a couple of times at the World Cup over in South Africa and he was a player who impressed me,'' he said. ''He came on and took his goals well but there has been no contact made at all between ourselves and his club with a view to him getting him involved with us.''

15.54 BST: Midfielder Benoit Pedretti says that he will remain at Auxerre, despite interest from abroad, and has targeted a return to the France squad.

15.38 BST: Roy Hodgson admits he will have to spend wisely as he looks to reshape his Liverpool squad on a restricted budget this summer.

15.19 BST: Veteran full-back Gianluca Zambrotta has signed a one-year contract extension with AC Milan, as his previous deal had been set to expire next summer.

15.08 BST: Newcastle may have landed Dan Gosling earlier, but boss Chris Hughton has denied he is looking to sign Raul, Hatem Ben Arfa, Sol Campbell and Benjani this summer.

14.59 BST: Asamoah Gyan says that three different clubs - of which Fenerbahce are definately one - are interested in signing him this summer. "I am aware that three clubs have made contact with Rennes," said the Ghanaian. ''However, I am not going to war with my club. For me, everyone has to be happy and make sure they get the best deal possible.''

14.43 BST: Hatam Ben Arfa's agent is keen to get his client a move as he hasn't made many friends at Marseille. The French midfielder has been offered to Newcastle, Liverpool and Everton.

14.33 BST: Palermo have rejected a €25 million offer from Real Madrid for Javier Pastore. Club president Maurizio Zamparini said it was rejected immediately and thinks the midfielder will head to Barcelona.

14.11 BST: Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal has predicted a grim future for Anatoliy Tymoschuk at the Bundesliga club and advised him to consider a transfer. ''Tymoschuk's prospects are not very bright,'' he told kicker magazine. ''(Bastian) Schweinsteiger is in the form of his life, (Mark) van Bommel is the captain. It looks tough. If a player doesn't play or doesn't have bright prospects then I would leave if I were them.''

13.52 BST: South Africa defender Bongani Khumalo has claimed he is on the brink of earning a trial at Tottenham. ''It would be a dream,'' he said. ''I have always wanted to play in England and obviously in the Premier League and it would be a dream to move to Tottenham - and if it happened, it would be up to me to make sure it works.''

13.36 BST: Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud has promised not to get into a ''war'' with French star Alou Diarra and would not stand in the midfielder's way if he wants to move to Marseille - providing the French champions pay the release fee of 7.75 million euros.

13.29 BST: Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has pleaded with the club's fans to give prospective new signing Titus Bramble a chance to prove himself. Incredible. He hasn't even signed yet and is already being criticised - not without good reason, mind.

13.17 BST: Oh dear, silly season is now fully upon us. Kaka and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are reportedly ready to swap clubs. El Mundo Deportivo claims Mourinho wants Ibrahimovic as a replacement for Karim Benzema, while no doubt Kaka would fill the void before Cesc Fabregas arrives next year. Don't expect this one to happen.

12.56 BST: Slovakia striker Robert Vittek has sealed his move to Ankaragucu from Lille. The 28-year-old, who spent six months last season on loan with the Turkish club, scored four goals at this summer's World Cup to put himself in the spotlight.

12.40 BST: Martin O'Neill claims that James Milner wants to leave Aston Villa for Manchester City this summer and says that he can go, but only for the right price.

12.36 BST: Nothing like knowing you aren't wanted, so Inter defender Ivan Cordoba has advised Mario Balotelli to leave the San Siro this summer. "Balotelli is having tantrums and he doesn't know what to do," he told Mediaset. "You can't understand what he wants. I advise him to find himself another team so he can rediscover his motivation."

12.31 BST: Juventus are busy (certainly in the papers anyway) and look set to renew their interest in Lazio left-back Aleksandar Kolarov, who is almost ready to sign for City.

12.21 BST: Inter Milan are considering a €20 million bid for Diego Forlan, if they sell Mario Balotelli to Manchester City. The Uruguay striker has also been linked with Juventus in recent weeks, but Atletico Madrid say they won't be selling him.

12.09 BST: Nottingham Forest are rumoured to be interested in taking Chelsea defender Patrick van Aanholt on loan, but Newcastle could go back in for him after he spent time on loan with them last season.

12.01 BST: Juventus striker David Trezeguet would like to play in the United States before the end of his career, according to his agent. ''For the time being he will not move from Juventus because the coach (Luigi Del Neri) needs him,'' Antonio Caliendo told Radio Monte Carlo. ''We have received several offers and the one the player likes most is that of the New York Red Bulls. There he will meet up with (Thierry) Henry.''

11.34 BST: Schalke coach Felix Magath says he is confident of signing Real Madrid legend Raul this summer, even though Besiktas are also in the hunt for his signature. ''Raul has shown in every moment his interest in signing for our team and we believe he will arrive, be it in days or weeks,'' Magath said in quotes published by Marca.

11.06 BST: Dan Gosling has joined Newcastle United from Everton. That's on a free deal after an Evertonian admin cock-up. One small thing is that he has a cruciate knee injury, continuing a long Toon tradition of signing injured players. Here's the Soccernet story.

11.02 BST:
Some Liverpool-related intrigue now as Milan striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is set for Anfield, with Ryan Babel heading the other way as part of the deal. So proclaim Il Corriere dello Sport.

10.46 BST: Tears on Wearside as Nyron Nosworthy exits stage left to Sheffield United on loan for a season. That terrace anthem to the tune of Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" will have to be mothballed for a year.

10.21 BST: Nemanja Vidic's future is one of the big imponderables if you are a Manchester United fan. In fact, not much to ponder if you consider that Sir Alex was hardly convincing when asked about the Serb in the aftermath. The Guardian carry the report.

10.06 BST:
A shot in the dark? Mezut Ozil to be chased by Manchester United, say the Manchester Evening News. This is based on the supposed breakdown of talks with Werder Bremen. We thought Fergie was happy with his squad.

09.51 BST:
Unsurprising transfer news of the summer? Leicester City are to let Yann Kermorgant leave. Kermorgant is infamous for the fluffed penalty that denied the Foxes promotion. He's no Sebastian Abreu.

09.48 BST: Everton fans rest assured. Mikel Arteta's agent says it is going to be difficult for Sevilla to land the midfielder without handing over some serious cash.

09.45 BST: No less an authority than London free-sheet/tramp's bedding The Metro suggests that Arsenal have given up their chase for Everton defender Phil Jagielka because he'd cost too much.

09.36 BST While Rangers are offloading the likes of Danny Wilson, Celtic are spending big, or big-ish as the SPL dictates. And new boss Neil Lennon is setting his sights on even more to follow, as our Soccernet story says.

09.05 BST:
Heavy rumours that Wayne Bridge could the man to fill that left-back spot for Liverpool. He and Glen Johnson could form a lesser-spotted former Chelsea partnership on Merseyside and with Joe "Scouse and Proud" Cole also on the scene it could be one big reunion on Melwood. The Mirror carry that line.

08.45 BST: The need for a left-back is paramount for Liverpool and they are being linked with Maynor Figueroa of Wigan. The Latics meanwhile eye PSV Mexican Carlos Salcido, a stand-out player from the World Cup in this observer's opinion. The Mail take that line.

08.34 BST: Inter Milan have opened talks with Liverpool's Javier Mascherano, say The Guardian.

08.22 BST: Chelsea are linked with yet another Brazilian and a rather useful one too. Well, he's better than Felipe Melo. Ramires is the man they're after to play in central midfield. The Daily Mail run that one and £20 million is the price.

08.05 BST: Rumour stuff from the tabloids now. Roy Hodgson has sent scouse hearts-a-quiver with his admittance that he is still to convince Fernando Torres to stay at Liverpool. That's in The Sun. West Ham are set to buy a much-wanted Ajax striker and it's not Luis Suarez. Miralem Sulejmani is the man linked in the Mirror. The Star says David "Jameo" James is off to Sunderland.

08.05 BST: Amusement for all as Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has complained about the prices that his nouveau riche club have been charged for the likes of Mario Balotelli.

08.00 BST: Time for another day on the transfer treadmill. What world of wonder awaits in a market that just may be springing into life.
