22.11 Paris Cowan Hall has left Grimsby and returned to parent club Portsmouth after contracting glandular fever. The Fratton Park outfit have been missing an outbreak of illness from their list of woes, so they can cross that off now as well.
21.27 Steve Bruce has made Sheffield United defender Matthew Kilgallon his first signing of the January transfer window. Kilgallon, 26, has signed a three and a half year deal with the Black Cats after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.
21.20 Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz has publicly criticised current supremo Florentino Perez on Goal.com Spain, branding the person responsible for paying Manchester United £80 million for Cristiano Ronaldo, “an idiot".
21.09: West Ham's new owner David Sullivan says that the club have made a wage offer of £100,000-a-week to one striker who he describes as a ''very special player''.
20.46: According to reports in Italy, Zenit St. Petersburg coach Luciano Spalletti is hoping to raid his former club for French winger Jeremy Menez.
20.14: Mike Leach has his thoughts on news that City are looking at Flamini and Gago for the defensive midfield berth. He says:
Have Man City swap Robinho for Barcelona's Yaya Toure. Straight swap or throw in Henry. Toure has been replaced by Sergio in defensive midfield and is expendable.
19.33: UAE Premier League side Emirates Cultural have drafted in former Iran international striker Reza Enayati in a bid to help their season.
18.54: Everton have now confirmed that Jo has left the club to go to Turkey. Read the full story here...
18.33: According to Sky Sports, Newcastle have made a bid for Portsmouth defender Mike Williamson and it has been accepted. So Pompey may get some money in after all.
18.28: According to FIFA transfer agent Ernesto Bronzetti, there is no truth to claims that Roma will sell midfielder Daniele De Rossi to Real Madrid.
18.07: Schalke manager Felix Magath has ruled out selling highly-rated defender

17.34: Marseille left-back Taye Taiwo is frequently linked with a number of big clubs and now the Nigerian claims that a move to Inter would be "a dream". I bet it would. Whether Inter want him or not is another matter though.
17.26: It is being reported that Manchester City striker Jo has cut short his loan spell with Everton to join Galatasaray, again on loan. If the transfer does go through he will be joining former Goodison team-mate Lucas Neill and former City team-mate Elano at the Turkish club.
17.10: Hatem Ben Arfa may have been linked with a move to Everton in January but Marseille manager Didier Deschamps is adamant he is keeping hold of the talented midfielder, saying: "He will stay."
16.52: Simon Kjaer has already said today he hopes to remain with Palermo (see 09.57) but now the Italian club have revealed that two unnamed Premier League clubs have offered for the defender (our money's on Spurs and City). Palermo president Mauricio Zamparini said:
"We have received four offers for Kjaer, two from Germany and two from England. We hope to keep him."
16.47: Rangers striker Kris Boyd is out of contract at the end of the season and Sky Sports News reports he is in talks with Aston Villa and Birmingham. Boyd can sign a pre-contract deal with a team outside Scotland, should he wish.
15.47: Fabio Simplicio looks set to move to AS Roma after Palermo's president said he expects the player to move on.
15.39: Could Fredrik Ljungberg be heading back to Europe? The Seattle Sounders' midfielder is being linked with a move to Serie A side Livorno, and they have said they will speak to David Beckham before completing any deal. "Ljungberg? It's a move that we are working on. We have tried to speak with Beckham to see what he makes of Ljungberg from the last MLS season which finished a month ago," Spinelli told Dahlia TV.
15.32: Joe Ledley, who looked set for a move to the Premier League when his contract with Cardiff expires in the summer, has reportedly opened talks over a new deal with the Bluebirds.
15.21: After looking nailed on for a contract with Colchester United, reports are reaching us that Nolberto Solano could actually move up a division and pen a deal with Leicester City
15.01: Fulham boss Roy Hodgson believes there is no truth in reports Arsenal are lining up a bid for defender Chris Smalling. Fulham have also been linked with a number of strikers following injuries to Clint Dempsey and Bobby Zamora, and it has been suggested they could make a move for Stoke's James Beattie. Hodgson, though, has refused to be drawn on the accuracy of those reports.
14.57: Bad news for Schteve McClaren, as Costa Rica international striker Bryan Ruiz says he wants to move from AZ Alkmaar to the Spanish La Liga.
14.41: United States international Ricardo Clark has joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan until the end of the season. Clark, a 26-year-old defensive midfielder. joins the Bundesliga outfit from Houston Dynamo and the club have an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.
14.28: Marouane Chamakh will be a name familiar to Arsenal and Liverpool supporters and the Bordeaux striker has once again underlined that he will not sign a new contract in France. But will he move in January or wait until the summer and leave on a free?
14.13: Former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi is a man in demand and his agent claims that the player wants to return to Italy from Villarreal in the summer. Juventus, Inter, AC and Napoli are all interested.
13.57 Manchester City £32.5m misfit Robinho was hoping for a dream return to Santos, the Brazilian club where he started his career, during the transfer window but the escape has been blocked by the Futebol Brasileiro club, according to the Daily Mail.
13.37: Thanks for getting in touch, Aadithya, But Zamora is out injured at present, hence why Fulham are being linked with so many strikers.
"Fulham moving for Stoke ace James Beatie...... Could this mean Zamora is off to old club West Ham?"
13.28: It is the Milan derby this weekend and ahead of the big clash, Ronaldinho has stated he wants to finish his career with the Rossoneri. With six goals in three games, they probably want him too as well.
13.16: Sky Sports News are reporting that Sheffield United defender Matt Kilgallon has been in Sunderland for talks over a move to the North East. The Black Cats have also been linked with Portsmouth's Younes Kaboul and appear keen to strengthen at the back.
13.02: There is an interesting line in Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport which reports Manchester United are showing renewed interest in Giorgio Chiellini and that Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken to the agent of the Juventus defender.
12.37: Roberto Mancini has already said today that he hopes to sign Fernando Gago from Real Madrid but Marca is now reporting that the player's agent has struck a deal with his former club Boca Juniors. 12.30: Having again had a pop at Steve Bruce for leaving Wigan with a "very iffy" squad, Latics chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed the club are looking for new strikers in what remains of the January window. Any ideas from you lot for potential targets?
12.24: If you missed it yesterday, Wigan's Daniel de Ridder has joined Hapoel Tel Aviv on loan. The Amsterdam-born winger is looking forward to a new start:
"Hapoel Tel Aviv are in second place behind Maccabi Haifa and still involved in the Europa League. They finished first from a group with big teams likes Hamburg, Celtic and Rapid Vienna. Now they play Rubin Kazan and have a chance to make further progress."
However, Roberto Martinez insists it isn't a done deal just yet.
12.14: This is not strictly transfer news, but Portsmouth have been reported to the Court of Arbitration for Sport by Udinese regarding late payments on the transfer of Sulley Muntari. That could mean that Pompey's transfer embargo will stay in place just yet.
11.57: Burnley boss Brian Laws has confirmed the club are looking to sign French forward Frederic Nimani from Monaco and that a deal could go through in the next 24 hours.
11.42: Italian publication Tuttosport reports that Bayern Munich are hoping to bring Gianluigi Buffon to the Bundesliga. Good luck with that one, we can't see Juve ever letting him go.
11.16: Hull striker Daniel Cousin has been linked with both Fulham and QPR and it seems certain he will leave the KC Stadium after admitting he has a poor relationship with Phil Brown, telling German agency dpa:
"Me and Phil Brown, the gaffer, we have no good relationship and it is therefore difficult for me to stay in Hull because I do not play and the relationship with the gaffer is not good."
11.08: Real Madrid have been quiet in January so far, hardly surprising given how much they spent in the summer, but now the Spanish giants are being linked with Roma midfielder Daniele de Rossi. That is according to As.
10.59: We have some breaking news from the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers completing a loan deal for Charleroi midfielder Geoffrey Mujangi-Bia, according to Sky Sports News.
10.49: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is always a player of interest when the transfer window opens and his agent has now told Soccernet that clubs in England want him and that a deal is possible. Click here for the full story.
10.30: Spanish daily As has some troubling news for any English clubs interested in Racing Santander wonderkid Sergio Canales, as it appears the player's preference is to remain in Spain. Not only that, he has requested information about England from Newcastle flop Xisco who is currently on loan at Racing. That probably won't be a glowing recommendation then.
10.08: Chelsea have stayed true to their word that they will not be buying anyone, so far at least, but will players be leaving Stamford Bridge? Not Juliano Belletti, according to the Brazilian, who has dismissed reports linking him with a return to his home country.
"Flamengo? This is a surprise to me especially as Chelsea have already said that they're not going to release me in January."
09.57: There has been a lot of chat about Danish defender Simon Kjaer in January, but the player himself has told Sporten in his homeland that he is happy to stay at Palermo. Tottenham are likely to be disappointed to hear that.
09.36: Sky Sports News are reporting that Stoke and Portsmouth have resumed talks over a possible transfer for David James. It seems a bit of a strange deal that doesn't really suit any parties, but oh well.
09.15: We start our look around the foreign press in Spain where Marca devotes its front page to the news that Ruud van Nistelrooy will definitely be heading to England after his agent held talks with Real Madrid on Wednesday. Stoke and Spurs are the leading candidates.
08.52: Roberto Mancini has been told he has to make his next signing without spending any money, but he's undeterred. Find out who he wants by clicking here.
08.23: Spanish newspaper AS claims West Ham are the latest side to express an interest in signing Ruud van Nistelrooy.
08.05: CSKA Sofia have signed French attacking midfielder Elliot Grandin on an 18-month contract. Grandin was a free agent after leaving Marseille.
08.00: Good morning and welcome to the latest edition of the transfer blog. Not a huge amount in this morning's papers as the events of last night's Premier League and Carling Cup action fills a decent amount of pages, but we'll round things up anyway to kick off.
Daily Star: Stoke apparently made a £2 million bid for Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Daily Mirror: Fulham are set to make a move for Stoke 'ace' James Beattie, while Birmingham have been told Celtic want £11 million for winger Aiden McGeady.
The Sun: Liverpool's Ryan Babel is ready to do a U-turn and sign for Birmingham for £9 million, with his agent confirming they are "studying an offer".
The Times: Everton have resurrected their interest in Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos and are set to make a loan offer. Meanwhile, Sporting could make a £4 million offer for Portsmouth's Nadir Belhadj.
