23:42: Right that's all folks! Join us again tomorrow for all the transfer news, as well as plenty of speculation about who is going where in the world of football.
23:37: Last bit of transfer-themed news of the day. Zlatan Ibrahimovic's agent has claimed that the Barca striker has one or two transfers left in him. Mino Raiola will probably be keeping his fingers crossed that 28-year-old Zlatan will move on, as I'm sure he will get a slice of any signing-on bonus. Raiola told AS:
"He can play until he is 36 or 37 years old and go through a couple of more transfers. I do not think Ibra will finish his career at Barca."
23:33: Aston Villa fan Andrew appears slightly concerned about Martin O'Neill's revelation that he has to sell before he can buy any new players. He says:
O'Neill has to sell? With the billions Lerner's worth? Hmmm, I just thought O'Neill was being stubborn, but that changes my whole outlook on this. But we need a new striker. There is no way we're getting 4th without one, it's impossible.
23:11: We told you earlier about Philippe Senderos being linked to a move to Celtic. But Hoops boss Tony Mowbray has poured cold water on that one:
"There has been no bid. There is no decision (to be made) from Senderos. You have been watching too much television.''
Right then.
21.41 Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko will cost AC Milan, or anybody else for that matter, €40 million, according to his agent Silvano Martina. “He has a clause of €40 million,” Martina said.
20.25 Premier League transfer targtet Fernando Meira insists he has no intention of leaving Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg.
19.55 Mainz have signed 31-year-old Czech midfielder Jan Simak from Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart. "Jan Simak further expands our options in attack," Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel said.
18.20 Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has admitted he will have to sell before he can bring in any new players during the January transfer window. Craig Gardner looks set to join Birmingham for over £3 million.
17.41 Wolves are looking to bolster their forward line with the capture of Stoke City striker James Beattie, according to sources "close to the club".
17.01: Alberto Aquilani's agent has scoffed at suggestions the player could return to Italy after just a few months with Liverpool. He has been linked with Juventus. "There aren't possibilities that Aquilani will go back to Italy in January," Franco Zavaglia told laroma24.it. "The boy has started playing with some continuity only in recent weeks. So that hypothesis is really far from reality."
16.56: Birmingham have been told they must fork of £5 million if they want to buy Charlie Adam from Blackpool. No quotes on that though.
16.50: Serbian striker Danijel Aleksic has been snapped up by Serie A outfit Genoa. The forward, who had been linked with Manchester City, has moved from Vojvodina for an undisclosed fee.
16.19: Could Valencia be set to strengthen with the signing of attacking midfielder Sofiane Feghouli. Apparently the player has already agreed to move, according to L’Equipe, with his contract up in the summer.
16.01: Atletico Madrid look to have made a signing. AS is reporting that Eduardo Salvo has passed his medical to move to Europe from Lanus.
15.44: Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed he is looking into the possibility of signing Ruud van Nistelrooy. One of the world's best finishers? Or a crock? Ruud we mean, not Harry...
15.32: The agent of Corinthians talent Dentinho claims the player is on the agenda of a number of Europe's top clubs. Well, he would, wouldn't he?
15.09: Harry Redknapp has once again dismissed reports that he wants to bring Ben Foster to Tottenham, but Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is of interest. It was reported Redknapp met with the player's agent to discuss a move to White Hart Lane.
14.41: Ryan Babel looked to have sealed his departure from Anfield when announcing on Twitter he had been dropped for the game against Stoke, but the forward is back in the squad for Wednesday's game against Spurs after apologising. Does he have a future at Anfield?
14.31: We have some relatively big news arriving, for this window at least, with Wolves opening talks with Stoke City regarding the signing of James Beattie. The striker's future has been in doubt ever since a bust-up with Tony Pulis.
14.05: The agent of Cristian Ledesma has denied suggestions that the Lazio midfielder has already agreed to join Inter, shunning Juventus in the process. Ledesma is awaiting the result of an arbitration panel and could be available on a free transfer if he is granted permission to leave his current club after a contractual dispute.
13.44: The Coventry Telegraph is reporting that Burnley will have to offer a lot more than £950,000 if they want to bring Aron Gunnarsson to Turf Moor. He has been in good form for the Sky Blues.
13.30: Interesting - albeit likely baseless - stuff from Italy. Apparently, AC Milan want Kaka back from Real Madrid. The Brazilian's been a disappointment since his big-money move in the summer and Sportal.it suggests he could be set to make a shock return...
13.10: Fernando Torres is quoted in the Daily Mail as saying he wants his Spain team-mates at Liverpool.
"If I could, I would take David Villa or David Silva to Liverpool as a partner in attack. I wish they could come. It would be a great asset for our team.
"We need match-winners like Rooney or Tevez. We need footballers who break the deadlock in matches. Liverpool is losing the Premier League in home matches against average teams."
13.02: AS and Marca both say Real Madrid are talking to Racing Santander about a deal for Spanish wonderkid Sergio Canales. Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City have also been linked.
12.40: Reader Junior Kennedy asks:
"Is there any rumours about liverpool have sign mauroune chamakh from bordeux for £25?not sure about this...."
There has been plenty of talk about a £25 million move but it's almost certain that, if anything happens, it'll happen in the summer when his contract expires. It seems Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones is still the main man at the moment. It's been denied that he's heading to Anfield on loan, but the Daily Mail thinks he'll go this week and the Shields Gazette says the rumours around Merseyside are that Rafa is considering a £12 million bid.
The Liverpool Daily Post adds that Ryan Babel might be off to Galatasaray and says Liverpool have been told they must spend £10 million if they want Jones. There was talk of a swap deal between Babel and Jones but, while that isn't happening, "talks have remained ongoing between Liverpool officials and their Wearside counterparts".
12.32: Arsenal don't want Croatia striker Mario Mandzukic. The Dinamo Zagreb man, 23, had been linked in reports but when asked if it was true, Arsene Wenger said:
"No. You will hear a few names until the end of the transfer window without there being any truth in it.”
12.20: West Ham fans may be interested to read scoopmaster Harry Harris' list of potential targets following the club's takeover.
12.10: Palermo defender Simon Kjaer has been linked with pretty much every high-profile club in Europe over the last year or so, but the Italian side's sport director, Walter Sabatini, told sportmediaset:
"It is not an option that interests Palermo to sell him now. We want to keep him until the end of the season."
12.00: Seems Manchester City might not be looking to add to their ever-growing ranks of defensive midfielders after all. There has been talk that City want Mathieu Flamini, but AC Milan sporting director Ariedo Braida said:
"We have heard rumours regarding possible interest from Manchester City for Flamini, but for the time being, there has been no official offer, interest or talks between AC Milan and Manchester City. Flamini is an AC Milan player."
More here.
11.45: Just to add to the Huntelaar stuff from earlier, he says he wants to play in England, Germany, Spain or Italy, and that six clubs have expressed an interest. De Telegraaf says Shakhtar Donetsk wanted him, but they don't play in England, Germany, Spain or Italy, so nothing came of that one.
11.35: The New York Post is discussing the possibility of Thierry Henry and Raul leaving Spain to head to the MLS this summer. Seems Henry might head to Red Bull New York when his Barcelona contract expires this summer and Real Madrid legend Raul is a target for the Red Bulls and LA Galaxy after falling down the pecking order at the Bernabeu.
11.26: Villa midfielder Craig Gardner is edging closer and closer to a move to local rivals Birmingham. Read more here.
11.20: Owen Coyle still wants to take Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere to Bolton on loan. He admits it's probably not the ideal time to be discussing the issue given that they're in the middle of a double header against the Gunners, but said:
"He's a fantastic young player, a player I believe will eventually play in the Arsenal first team and for England.
"He's one that I've always admired, but I think that conversation is for after Wednesday night when we've played Arsenal, and we'll take it from there."
Coyle also said he'd not made any contact with Real Madrid over veteran midfielder Guti, Sheffield United for Matt Kilgallon or Stoke for Andy Wilkinson. Read more here.
11.00: We mentioned earlier that Klaas Jan Huntelaar is looking for a loan move away from Milan since he's not first-choice, and here are the quotes:
"I'm thinking of leaving. When I spoke with officials, they comforted me and said they have faith in me. I played a little more, but I want more.
"It's important for me because, as our national team coach explained to me, to go with the national team it's important to play a lot for your club.
"I would like to stay in an important league to show I can be a player for Milan. I'd like to be loaned and then come back."
Arsene Wenger said he wasn't interested at the start of the month, but you'd have to think Arsenal and Liverpool would be tempted by a loan move...
10.35: Hamburg midfielder Jerome Boateng's been linked with a few clubs lately, but Bild says he's about to sign an extension after talks resumed.
10.26: Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos would be delighted to secure a loan switch to Celtic. He was linked yesterday and has now said:
"I am very honoured that a big club like Celtic are interested in me and a loan deal right now would suit me perfectly. My main priority is to get back playing regular football. Hopefully something will be in place over the next few days but I'll wait and see."
Read more here.
10.20: France Football believes Liverpool will beat AC Milan to the signing of Standard Liege striker Milan Jovanovic. The Serb apparently thinks he'll get more first-team football at Anfield and would rather sign for Rafa.
10.15: L'Equipe says Toulouse have agreed a deal to sign Colin Kazim-Richards on loan. The English-born Turkey international has been at Fenerbahce since leaving Sheffield United in 2007 and likes to be known as Kazim Kazim over there.
10.10: With the deal for Inter Milan's Mancini having fallen through, Marseille are either after Valencia Joaquin (according to RMC) or Galatasaray's Harry Kewell (according to Le Parisien).
10.03: Seems Roman Pavlyuchenko may have actually rejected Zenit rather than the other way around, but you can decide for yourself by reading this.
10.00: Reports suggest Chelsea could be looking at Monaco's Jerko Leko as a replacement for Michael Essien if the Ghana midfielder's injury rules him out until the end of the season.
09.55: Hamburg insist they have not received an approach for reported Sunderland target Guy Demel. The Ivory Coast defender is out of contract at the end of the month but Hamburg chairman Bernd Hoffmann says there has "not been any bid for him coming in".
09.47: Nottingham Forest are looking to sign three players this month to bolster their promotion bid and Villa's Nicky Shorey is thought to be among the targets but, asked about new arrivals, boss Billy Davies says he has "nothing to report on that front at the minute".
09.45: "Lincoln City manager Chris Sutton is keen to extend Aston Villa defender Nathan Baker's stay at Sincil Bank," according to the Birmingham Mail.
09.35: Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti says the club will not make any more signings in the January transfer window. Roma's Julio Baptista had been a target but the clubs failed to reach an agreement.
09.30: Zenit St Petersburg confirmed last night that they are out of the race to sign Tottenham striker Roman Pavlychenko, as we suggested yesterday. Club president Alexander Dyukov said:
"The management were considering the loan of Roman Pavlyuchenko for six months to the summer in order to decide whether to buy him. Unfortunately, this proposal did not suit Tottenham. We would not like to acquire the player now."
09.18: Portuguese daily A Bola reports that discussions are continuing between Rangers and Sporting Lisbon regarding the possible transfer of Pedro Mendes.
09.05: Continuing our scout around Europe, AC Milan striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has told De Telegraaf in his homeland of Holland that up to six clubs are interested in signing him in January.
08.41: The Spanish papers are notorious for taking a punt or two but a report in Mundo Deportivo this morning really takes the biscuit. The Catalan daily claims Wayne Rooney has spoken to Gerard Pique about life at Barcelona and that he is open to moving to the Spanish champions. Wow.
08.15: Okay, so it's not exactly transfer news but the takeover of West Ham is now complete, our man Harry Harris has confirmed. Does this mean the Hammers will have some money to spend in what remains of the transfer window?
07.45: Good morning and welcome to another day in a transfer window that is proving to be as uneventful as Angola's draw with Algeria on Monday evening. Let's hope for some excitement today though, kicking off with the news that, according to Sky Sports News, Manchester City are in talks to sign Mathieu Flamini on loan from Milan. After all, why stop at one French Arsenal cast-off who plays as a holding midfielder? Next thing you know, Emmanuel Petit will be on his way to Eastlands.
