23.55: Okay, that's all from the ESPN Transfer Blog for tonight. Thanks for joining us and come back again tomorrow for more transfer business and news hounding.

23:50: Mathieu Flamini could become even more unpopular with Arsenal fans if the Daily Mail is right: "Tottenham are set to make a shock move to bring former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini back to north London." Flamini's not happy at AC Milan after being used as a defender and has said he wouldn't mind a move back to England...

23:42: Highly-rated Racing Santander midfielder Sergio Canales, 18, is a target for Real Madrid and several English clubs. His father and agent, Angel Canales, told Onda Cero:

"Real Madrid are one of the teams we have had conversations with, but I will not divulge all the details. There are English clubs, too. I can't deny that many have asked me about Sergio's future."

He's out of contract in the summer, so it could be an interesting battle for his signature.

23:39: Brazilian midfielder Sandro is creeping closer to a move from Internacional to Spurs, with his lawyer Luiz Paulo Chignall revealing:

"We have now agreed all of Sandro's personal terms – his salary, the length of his contract. Although nothing can be signed yet. Sandro is happy and ready to join Tottenham. We liked the offer. All that remains is for Tottenham and Inter to finalise the small details, including the transfer fee."

23.31: Odd news from South Africa. Mamelodi Sundowns claimed on their website that their player was off for a trial at Arsenal and then denied it. Read more here.

23:21: The English press are gearing themselves up and keeping their fingers crossed for some big transfer stories tomorrow, with the Daily Mail claiming that Marouane Chamakh is closing in on a move to Liverpool, in the summer.

23:13: Speculation mounting that Brian Laws will be named the new Burnley boss tomorrow. Sacked by Sheffield Wednesday but he walks into a Premier League job. Does anyone else think that doesn't quite add up?

22:46: On-loan Bari midfielder Sergio Almiron has hinted that he would like to stay at the Biancorossi beyond his current deal. The Agentine is ocntracted to Juventus until 2011 but insisted he is happy at Bari. "For the moment, I am happy here," Almiron explained to Corriere Dello Sport. "And I want to stay.

22:15 One of our readers, leche reckons that some fans should be a little more realistic when predicting potential new signings for their clubs He says:

These teams don't need and won't get world class super stars in January. These teams need serviceable starters and squad players that don't break the bank, but can be just as productive in the short term as some of these record signings.

21:29: Barcelona youngster Keirrison will not be seeking an early end to his loan spell with Benfica. The Brazilian striker's agent, Marcos Malaquias, is quoted in Portuguese daily A Bolo as saying: “Keirrison does not want to leave Benfica, he is waiting for an opportunity to demonstrate his quality.”

21:25: A manager transfer to inform you of now, with former Argentina coach Jose Pekerman reportedly on the verge of taking over at Peruvian club San Martin. A verbal agreement is believed to be in place.

21:19: Chelsea fan (and England midfielder?) Lamps is happy to suggest wholesale changes at Stamford Bridge. He says:

Dzeko wouldn't be my first pick but at least it appears we are going to doing some business. Aguero or Pato should be signed but loaned back to their current clubs to continue developing. Kalou should be allowed to depart to Barca, not Arsenal. His replacement (Villa, Gomis, Nilmar, Dzeko, Adriano, Pazzini or Suarez) should arrive immediately. We should also get di Maria and Canales. Malouda and (it pains me to say this) Deco out, Schweinsteiger, Silva, Ribery, Dzagoev, Hamsik or VDV two should arrive to replace them. We also need a winger, maybe Babel, but Krasic or Mata would be better picks.

20:54: Roma full-back Cicinho is reportedly set to return to his homeland with former club Sao Paulo. The Brazilian club's president told Corriere Dello Sport an agreement is “close,” and that he does “not think that will be necessary to pay money to Roma because the transfer is useful to everyone.”

20:37: New Bolton boss Owen Coyle has claimed that keeping star centre back Gary Cahill is one of his main priorities after taking over the Wanderers' hotseat. He also revealed he is pessimistic about his chances of signing Jack Wilshere.

20:33: CSKA Sofia have signed Macedonia defender Igor Mitreski and former Romania striker Daniel Pancu, the Bulgarian club have revealed.

19:50: There could be a potential glimmer of hope for struggling Portsmouth tomorrow. They will hear their transfer fate from a Premier League panel, who are set to decide whether the south coast club will be allowed to sign any players this month.

19:42: Juande Ramos' stock has plummeted somewhat since his glory days with Sevilla. Ill-fated spells with Tottenham and CSKA were sandwiched by an admirable caretaker job at Real Madrid, and now he could be set for a return with...Real Betis of the Spanish Segunda Division. Spanish daily Sport seems certain that Betis will shortly relieve coach Antonio Tapia of his duties, with Ramos favourite to take the hotseat.

19:01 Niger international Moussa Maazou is on the verge of signing for Ligue 1 side Monaco from CSKA Moscow, according to L'Equipe .

18:30: Centre-back Giovanny Espinoza has been released by Birmingham City. Signed from Ecuador outfit Barcelona Sporting Club last summer, Espinoza never really had much of a chance as Alex McLeish apparently never even wanted to sign him, but was overruled by chairman David Sullivan.

18:01: Philippe Senderos has told BBC Sport that he is looking for a move away from Arsenal. Probably not too much of a coincidence that it's on a day when Sol Campbell appears to be making a return to the Gunners.

17:50: Manchester United haven't looked like dipping into the transfer market this January, but Praveen reckons that Sir Alex needs to go fishing for a striker. He says:

"What's up with Fergie?! There's no target man in the team...no partner for rooney...team not playin well...why aren't u yet fishin in the transfer market....come on...get a good catch."

17:45: Bild.de report that Vitória Guimarães defender Henrique Sereno Fonseca could be on his way to Schalke.

17:15: More on Sol campbell's impending return to Arsenal here.

17:12: West Ham United flop Savio has apparently flopped again. Goodness knows what possessed Fiorentina to snap him up after his ill-fated spell at the Hammers last season, but they appear to have realised the error of their ways and are ready to offload him to Bologna in a loan deal, according to Football Italia.

17:07: With Patrick Vieira departed to Man City and Mancini expected to sign for Marseille, Parma midfielder Daniele Galloppa has emerged as a possible target for Inter Milan. But the 24-year-old’s agent has denied the speculation, stating: "There is no news. My phone hasn't been ringing and the player is fine at Parma."

17:05: We're hearing increasingly loud murmurs at Soccernet towers that Sol Campbell is likley to be signed up on a short-term deal by Arsenal.

16:45: Young Danish defender Michael Lumb has signed a three-year contract with Zenith St. Petersburg, the Russian club have announced. The 22-year-old Denmark international had played for five seasons at Danish team Aarhus.

16:36: Another former Arsenal and Fulham player, Junichi Inamoto, has departed French shores to return home to Japan. Just six months after joining Stade Rennes from Eintracht Frankfurt, L'Equipe are reporting that the midfielder will sign for J-League side Kawasaki Frontale.

16:31: Tim Hoogland is rejoining his boyhood club Schalke three years after moving to Mainz. A day after former Fulham and Arsenal defender Moritz Volz was rejected by Schalke, the club where he also started his career, 24-year-old Moogland revealed he will be heading back to the Gelsenkirchen club this summer. He said:

"Schalke 04 is my hometown club and you have to take opportunities like this when they present themselves. Still, I'll be giving my all for Mainz until the summer."

16.06: Sol Campbell is playing for Arsenal reserves tonight. Does that mean he'll sign for the Gunners soon? Watch this space.

15.52: Ivory Coast defender Steven Gohouri has signed for Wigan on a deal until the end of the season.

15.21: Stoke and England's legendary goalkeeper Gordon Banks believes the Potters would ''shoot up'' the Premier League if they pulled off the audacious signing of Ruud van Nistelrooy.

15.05: Racing Santander president Francisco Pernia insists reports teenage star Sergio Canales is on his way out ''have as much relation to the truth as an egg to a chestnut''. An odd way to put it, but we like it!

15.02: Defender Michael Lumb has joined Zenit St Petersburg from Danish first division side AGF Aarhus.

14.43: Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastian Frey is reportedly attracting the interest of Manchester United, according to the player's agent. With VDS out of action, Fergie could be on the lookout for a new 'keeper and Frey apparently fits the bill.

14.19: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is to be given £75 million to spend on new players in the summer by the club's owners, the Glazers, apparently. We'll believe that one when we see it.

13.59: Edin Dzeko's agent claims both Milan and Chelsea want the Wolfsburg striker. Silvano Martina told calciomercato.it: "I can confirm that Milan really likes the player. At the time in Italy they are the club which showed most interest. But attention must be paid to Chelsea as the Blues are following Dzeko."

13.41: Midfielder Stefano Guberti has joined Sampdoria on loan from Roma.

13.24: It seems that Celtic centre-back Gary Caldwell is set to snub the chance to sign for Middlesbrough, and move to Wigan Athletic instead.

13.21: Burnley will choose between former Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws and current Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll as their new coach.

13.08: Vitoria Guimaraes defender Henrique Sereno Fonseca is reportedly a target for Bundesliga outfit Schalke,

12.49: Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has revealed he wants a new striker. "We've got bids in for players but we can't do any business without someone else's permission." He is being linked with Leeds' Jermaine Beckford.

12.27: Le Parisien thinks that Ligue 1 champions Bordeaux could be set to make a move for striker Jimmy Briand, who plays for Rennes.

12.24: Marseille boss Didier Deschamps has told La Provence that he is still confident of signing Amantino Mancini from Inter Milan.

12.01: Falkirk have signed Colin Healy on loan from Ipswich for the rest of the season.

11.50: A story from Tuttosport links Juventus with a bid for Lazio midfielder Cristian Ledesma. It was thought that Inter were in pole position but now the Old Lady is ready to move in.

11.41: Remember Bruno Cheyrou? Yeah, that guy that did nothing at Liverpool. Well, he looks like he could be joining Anorthosis from Rennes.

11.36: Steve Bruce has admitted he wants to sign Salvador Cabanas from Paraguayan club America, even though his club say they won't be selling. "Cabanas is a fantastic player, whether it's possible, I'm not quite sure. He's somebody who would be of interest but I'm sure if he became available, there'd be lots more interest too."

11.31: Wolves have denied trying to swap Sam Vokes for Leeds United hotshot Jermaine Beckford. Vokes was on loan at Elland Road earlier this season.

11.20: Rubin Kazan defender Cristian Ansaldi says that he knows nothing of reports that have been linking him with a move to Manchester City.

11.17: Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is still checking out transfer targets. "The amount of recruiting will depend on many aspects, but we are looking to strengthen in all areas of the field," Martinez told the Wigan Evening Post. "Possibilities always present themselves in January - that is the nature of the transfer window."

11.11: The forgotten man that is Benjani has shown he might have something to offer to Manchester City in the last two matches, and now he's out to earn a new contract. He said: "I’ve always wanted to see out my career at City. I have six months left on my current deal and it would be nice if I could get another year or so. The only thing that is important to me is to fight hard for the right to play and I love the role I’ve had in recent weeks."

11.02: The Sunderland Echo links the Premier League club with a swoop for Ivory Coast international Guy Demel, who currently plays for Hamburg and will be out of contract in the summer.

10.59: The Daily Mail claims to have sourced in South America which link Fernando Gago with Manchester City. The Real Madrid midfielder is also on the wanted list of Boca Juniors.

10.42: Could former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini really head to Tottenham? Reports in Italy suggest he is unhappy at AC Milan and could return to England in a £7.5 million switch.

10.28: Reading have signed Stoke defender Andy Griffin on loan until the end of the season.

man utd should sell berbatov or welbeck and they should sign pato or maybe gonzalo higuain to play alongside wayne rooney..and i think rooney should let macheda to loan so that he can gain some experience

Posted by Shashwat on 01/12/2010

Are Man Utd buying Hulk or David Villa because they really need a good striker to partner Rooney up front as Berbatov is useless these days!

Posted by sunny on 01/12/2010

arsenal have been linked with cole, zarate, saha and diarra but why not fabiano, villa and aguero.
COME ON WENGER!

Posted by diddi on 01/12/2010

why all the talk about ribery, aguero or villa.they re all unreasonably expensive.CHELSEA can get good bargain with players like angel di maria, edin dzeko nd suarez.they re cheaper nd very good players.

Posted by VINOD on 01/12/2010

If arsenal get Villa, then they will have chance to achieve some thing this season. If they can find one central defender(Gallas not fielded at any cost)matching the quality of Vemealen, along with it, sure they can win the league this time.

Talking about strikers if man utd really need a striker they should go for Hulk but i think what united need now is a winger, trading Nani or Tosic with David Silva wont be a bad idea.

Posted by hirnawi on 01/12/2010

Man utd should sell anderson, wellbeck, berbatov and ben foster. Give more exposure to obertan, macheda, de laet and nani. United should get better strikers to combine with rooney like villa, torres or messi. For midfielder - replace giggs and scholes and get gerrard and shaun wright philip. In defence replace neville and vidic. They should replace ben foster with another keeper.

Posted by dave on 01/12/2010

Man united should sell berbatov to buy aguero or villa.

You guys are all out of your minds with these dream team signings you're talking about. No chance United sign Gerrard or Torres, especially not directly from Liverpool. David Villa, Sergio Aguero, Alexandre Pato are all going to be insainely expensive, no matter who signs, same goes for Bastian Schweinsteiger, David Silva, Franck Ribery. Arsenal have shown time and time again that they're not going to break the bank for anyone, so them getting Sergio Aguero or David Villa is quite simply not going to happen.

These teams don't need and won't get world class super stars in January. These teams need serviceable starters and squad players that don't break the bank, but can be just as productive in the short term as some of these record signings.

Posted by bart on 01/13/2010

i heard that man united were forced to sell wayne rooney if they can't settle on their debt..barcelona or real madrid have interested on rooney.

Posted by Tkae on 01/13/2010

man utd should sell Nani, Tosic Berbatov and anybody else who give less than 110% for united. Rooney needs help upfront and the midfield lacks creativity.
Fergie should bring in Hamsik, Pastore, Jovetic, Krasic and a Kick ass striker to help Rooney. Sell Foster!!!!
