14.52 Barcelona's finance department are currently drawing up a monster contract for Lionel Messi, according to newspaper reports. The 22-year-old will apparently be offered an inflation-busting £8m a year, and his buyout price will be hiked from £127m to £254m. Enough to make even Man City flinch.

11.06 Xabi Alonso has spoken publicly on his lengthy association with a move to Real Madrid. He's trying not to give too much away but his intentions are fairly clear: "I decided a long time ago to stay on the margin of everything that was happening. My stance has been clear, as you all know. I'm a professional and I must wait for an agreement to be reached, but I hope it is resolved soon, for better or for worse.'' He's off then.
