15.30 Despite splurging over €200m in the transfer market and spending money like it is going out of fashion Real Madrid can't afford to buy Xabi Alonso from Liverpool. Los Blancos' general director Jorge Valdano said: "Xabi Alonso is a priority if he fits into our budget, but that does not seem to be the case. We are very far away from the figures that Liverpool have presented."
15.11 Gabriel Obertan's move to Manchester United has moved a step closer to completion. The 20-year-old Bordeaux winger is in Manchester having a medical.
14.53 Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2013. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "We are delighted that Ben has signed a new four-year deal."
14.27 Those of you who don't like long, drawn out transfer saga's will be pleased to hear that Bayern Munich have set a deadline of July 16 for any deal for Franck Ribery to be completed. Bild claim the Bavarians want all the speculation to end by the time their pre-season training camp in Donaueschingen begins.
13.40 Fiorentina are prepared to trade Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo in exchange for Arsenal full-back Emmanuel Eboue. "[Arsene] Wenger wants to talk to me,'' said Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino. "I have no objection also because Eboue seems a valid swap.''
12.57 AC Milan have signed United States centre-back Oguchi Onyewu in a bid to quell supporter unrest over their transfer policy. The 27-year-old, who impressed at the Confederations Cup, has joined on a free transfer from Standard Liege.
12.30 Manchester United are interested in signing Samuel Eto'o, according to L'Equipe. The French newspaper contacted the Barcelona striker's entourage and nobody denied the Red Devils' interest... although I assume they didn't deny interest from Warrington Town either.
12.00 Lee Bowyer is set to join Birmingham City on a permanent basis from West Ham United on a free transfer. The former England midfielder enjoyed a successful loan spell at St Andrew's during the second half of last season.
11.42 Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais have signed 26-year-old FC Porto striker Lisandro Lopez for €24m, plus €4m in performance related add-ons, according to reports.
11.26 AC Milan have confirmed they have made a double swoop for Real Madrid's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Sevilla's Luis Fabiano. Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani said: "Milan have made offers for Huntelaar and Fabiano, but it's a difficult market because Real Madrid's spending has meant prices have doubled since last year."
11.06 The agent of the Brazilian international Maicon, who has been trying to flog the defender to Real Madrid all summer, has now suggested that his client will be staying at Inter Milan. "In the end, I believe that Maicon will follow [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, and remain with Inter," Antonio Caliendo said.
10.38 Real Madrid seem to be involved in almost every transfer story today and the Spanish club have apparently given Liverpool a two week deadline in which to conclude the sale of Xabi Alonso. New Real coach Manuel Pellegrini is keen to sign a defensive midfielder but will end his interest in Alonso after July 19.
10.21 According to Cheslea chief executive Peter Kenyon it doesn't matter if Manchester City stump up £40m for John Terry as the Blues skipper is going nowhere. "He [Terry] is not available at any price," Kenyon said. "He's got a three-year contract. He's told us he doesn't want to go and we don't want him to go. End of story."
09.53 Birmingham City chairman David Gold still harbours hopes of signing Inter Milan crock Patrick Vieira. "I'd like to think there are a couple more signings who might whet the appetite and I don't think the Vieira deal is dead," Gold said.
