6.37 Here's one that just won't go away. Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrin says he wants to sign Xabi Alonso. We all know that but there is some other talk that Chelsea and Manchester City want him too. Is this stirring by the Spanish press? Looks like it might be.

6.16 Over to France and Lille have signed Gervinho from Le Mans. That's been hailed by the club as a signal of their intentions for the new season.

6.06 Fiorentina have signed Argentine striker Jose Castillo. At 33, he previously played for Lecce but has a good record in Italian football.

5.49 Controversy here. Northampton are angry that Giles Coke has joined Motherwell. Supposedly, his agent had told the Cobblers that he would be staying on.

4.48pm Cologne have continued their Spanish shopping spree by signing Christopher Schorch from Real Madrid.

4.31pm Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies has said he expects to see more signings like Stewart Downing appearing at Villa Park before the start of the season.

4.07pm German newspaper Bild is reporting that German champions Wolfsburg are closely monitoring the situation of Brazilian international Nilmar.

3.50pm Pep Guardiola is not letting Carles Puyol away from Barcelona. "Carles is not moving," he told reporters. "If you are planning for a season, you do not allow your leader to leave."

3.24pm AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani insists the Rossoneri will not buy David Beckham. But seems quite happy for him to come back to the club on loan.

3.12pm Wigan have completed the signing of 18-year-old midfielder James McCarthy from Hamilton. McCarthy is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in British football, so it's a bit of a coup.

3.09pm Steve Bruce is turning his attention to other targets after being snubbed by Peter Crouch. "We have a number of irons in the fire at present and we will be looking to make several additions to our squad in the coming weeks," he said. Although one of those could be Darren Bent.

2.45pm Real Mallorca are on the verge of signing Sergio Tejera from Chelsea. The youngster impressed during a loan spell at the club last season and really doesn't stand much chance of breaking into the first team.

2.30pm Alexander Hleb's agent believes the Barcelona midfielder would welcome a move to Inter Milan but insists he has not been informed of any possible deal.

2.07pm David Beckham has revealed he would not mind returning to Milan next season once the MLS term finishes in November.

1.09pm South Africa midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi admits he will have to wait and see if Fulham choose to make his trial permanent. ''Yesterday was my first day at training and it was hard. I was a bit apprehensive when I started but I quickly got into the hang of things,'' he said. ''I think I coped but at the end of the day it's not up to me, it's the coach that makes the decision.''

1.05pm Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda has signed a new three-year deal.

12.55pm Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is confident the Reds have the squad to match Man Utd this season. Even without Xabi Alonso?

12.05pm Sunderland have apparently dropped their interest in Peter Crouch. So the tall frontman looks like heading to Fulham or Spurs.

11.55am Salamanca's young defender Diego Caballo is said to be interesting Tottenham Hotspur. 'Arry must be itching to make some signings.

11.39am David Beckham is confident he will be back at AC Milan after the end of the MLS season. He has also been linked with Chelsea and Spurs but Serie A is his bag now.

11.27am Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti remains confident he can tie up a deal for Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to go the other way.

11.14am Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness has risked winding up Bundesliga rivals Schalke by claiming that their goalkeeper Manuel Neuer wanted to join his club this summer. ''Neuer told us quite clearly that he wanted to come to us,'' he told the Bild newspaper.

11.04am Roda JC coach Harm van Veldhoven has confirmed the club are interested in signing Argentinian striker Hernan Losada.

10.42am Benfica have sealed the transfer of Spanish midfielder Javi Garcia from Real Madrid for 7m euros ($9.94m).

10.38am Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas says he would welcome Marouane Chamakh "with open arms" should the Bordeaux striker decide to move to Les Gones.

10.30am Abu Dhabi billionaire Sulaiman al-Fahim said on Tuesday he has completed a deal to buy Premier League club Portsmouth FC. Time to buy some players now!

10.19am Three Premier League sides are chasing highly-rated Hulld defender Michael Turner. Although we're guessing it's not Liverpool, Chelsea or Man Utd.

10.06am Hamilton have confirmed that 18-year-old midfielder James McCarthy will join Wigan in a £1.4m deal.

9.56am Juventus are ready to step up their interest in Barcelona defender Martin Caceres. Barca coach Pep Guardiola has claimed he wouldn't stand in his way, so the Uruguayan could be on the way out.

9.39am Alvaro Negredo continues to push for a Real Madrid departure and could join up with an English Premier League club. Which one is anyone's guess.

9.21am Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti is confident they can agree a deal with Samuel Eto'o.

9.10am Le Mans striker Gervinho is set to join Lille in a deal worth €6.5m (£5.6m).

8.57am Sounds like Luis Fabiano is going nowhere. “I believe that the possibility of [my client] going to Milan is now finished,” his agent was quoted by AS as saying. “They say that no news is good news, but in this case, it’s quite the opposite.''

8.42am Aston Villa are considering a double swoop on Tottenham. Alan Hutton is a £5m target and Jermaine Jenas could cost as much as £10m.

8.21am Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has tipped Ryan Babel to become a major force at Anfield this season. Maybe because he hasn't managed to land any of his top midfield targets.

8.00am Morning all, we'll start with news of City's Elano, who could move on a season-long loan to German club Cologne or Inter Milan after being told not to join the club's pre-season tour.

Hope Arsene Wenger is taking note of the vibes from Olympique Lyon. Adebayor is a huge loss and I think Chamakh would be an excellent replacement

I just hope pep is not making mistake cos Eto'o is the best striker in the world and we the fans of barcelona in Nigeria have much confidence in him than Ibra. Laporta pls take note and dont forget that we still need mascherano

wenger should reliase that four staight season without a thropy is a failure ,so let him find a quick replacement of departed adebayor.
