Posted by Soccernet Staff on 07/28/2009

We'll be keeping you as up-to-date as possible on the latest transfer talk in On The Move. You can catch the morning newspaper gossip in Paper Round, read up on all the Latest Transfers and then follow the developing stories in our constantly updated transfer blog here:

23.30
That just about concludes On the Move for tonight. More on Lescott and Toure to follow. City, always Manchester City...till tomorrow.

23.29 Keirrison, recently signed by Barcelona, has been sent on loan to Benfica to toughen himself up for the rigours of European football. There's a quite a lot of competition for places so he may appreciate the chance to speak Portuguese and find his feet.

22.47 Ramon Calderon, desposed president of Real Madrid, says that £80m for Cristiano Ronaldo was a fair deal. To quote: "12,000 euros is a year's salary for people here in Spain but I could spend that on a bottle of wine."

"It depends on what you expect from that investment. It's true Real Madrid is able to do that because we manage the money in the right way." An interesting take on it, considering the many questions about Real's debt. Nice to see him calling Real "we" though.

22.21 Hull City and Aston Villa join the chase for Darren Bent. Phil Brown will no doubt talk of his happiness at fighting it out for an England striker when he loses out. £14m is what Spurs want. That Daniel Levy drives a hard bargain. Up to a point.

22.01 Zlatan Ibrahimovic says he only wanted to join Barcelona and has now indulged in a bit of badge-kissing. Bit early for that?

21.20 This is one that won't go away; City are in for Joleon Lescott again, and have made an improved offer, according to certain sources. Toure imminent too.

19.45 David Villa says he wants to stay at Valencia and is glad Los Che do not want to sell him.

19.00 Sky TV suggest that Finnan has indeed joined Portsmouth. We await confirmation.

18.47 Jerzy Dudek endears himself to his former club Liverpool by saying that Xabi Alonso's move to Real Madrid would represent a "dream come true" for the Basque midfielder.

18.13 Pompey look likely to spend the Crouch cash on Cardiff striker Ross McCormack and Croatia striker Nikola Kalinic. Steve Finnan looks headed for Fratton Park too as a desperately short squad is finally adding playing staff.

17.57 Everton have decided against offering terms to Port Vale youngster James Lawrie after a recent trial. They have enough kids as it is.

17.47 Robbie Keane has hailed the arrival of Peter Crouch. "As a striker it's always good to be kept on your toes," he said. "When you've got four good strikers like we have you have to do a job, because if you don't do your job then there's someone else who can come in and take your spot.'' Although we'll see if he's quite so chipper when he's sat on the bench.

17.27 Inter Milan new boy Samuel Eto'o has rubbished suggestions he has ever had a problem with new coach Jose Mourinho. The Cameroon star had a bit of a bust-up with Jose following a Champions League match between Barca and Chelsea a few years ago, but it's all in the past.

17.16 AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has revealed he would not invest in experienced players because they "cost too much"; but coach Leonardo has responded, claiming: "A few key elements are missing from this team. Young players are good for the future, but it's obvious we need more than that. Young players are not enough."

16.51 Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones has stated that he plans to honour his four-year contract at the club. Even though Tottenham - possibly the only club interested - have now signed Peter Crouch instead.

16.29 Manchester City may have Kolo Toure nearing a move, but they have also been linked with Roma's French centre-half Philippe Mexes, who might just fancy doubling money.

16.12 Portsmouth have made a bid for Cardiff's Ross McCormack. Although he might be back in the Championship next season if they don't buy anyone else.

16.05 Lyon have agreed a deal with Fenerbahce for Spanish striker Dani Guiza, who could be a hit alongside Lisandro Lopez in France.

15.36 Benjani Mwaruwari, Valeri Bojinov and Elano are to be sold by Manchester City boss Mark Hughes, according to the Manchester Evening News. That should clear up a little space in the squad..

15.03 Real Madrid duo Rafael van der Vaart and Gabriel Heinze have reportedly been given another clear message by Manuel Pellegrini that they should seek another club by the start of the season. That's according to Marca.

14.38 Luis Figo won't be replacing him though as he has dismissed reports that he could be set to postpone his retirement to join Real Mallorca or Spurs this summer.

14.22 Deportivo de La Coruna could make a bid to sign Giovani Dos Santos from Tottenham Hotspur after he impressed for Mexico in the Gold Cup final.

13.34 Manchester City are close to agreeing a £16m fee with Arsenal for centre-back Kolo Toure. The Ivory Coast star would double his wages at Eastlands apparently.

12.49 The Evening Standard claims that Arsene Wenger is to renew his interest in Fulham's Brade Hangeland.

12.45 Lyon defender Cris has told France Football he wants to leave the club and play in a different league.

12.31 Sky Sport Italia says that Juve have now agreed terms with Barcelona's Martin Caceres.

12.13 Talks between Sunderland and Darren Bent are progressing today after the Tottenham striker was given permission to speak to the Black Cats about a potential club-record transfer.

12.09 Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has denied Hull have lodged a bid for Alan Hutton

12.01 L'Equipe quotes Sedan defender Paul Baysse as saying he has agreed to join Sunderland ahead of West Ham and Blackburn... as the Black Cats' wage offer was 20% higher.

11.33 Sky Sports is reporting that Blackburn are in talks with Celta Vigo striker Kamel Ghilas. He is an Algerian international who scored 13 goals in the Segunda division last season.

11.21 West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola remains hopeful of convincing defender Lucas Neill to sign a new deal with the club. At present Neill is essentially a free agent.

11.05 Wolfsburg have confirmed their interest in Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins.

11.01 Alvaro Arbeloa has told Marca that his move from Liverpool to Real Madrid is just about done and dusted.

10.57 Barcelona defender Martin Caceres has told Tuttosport that he does not want to go on the tour of the USA. He would rather stay back and seal a move to Juve.

10.51 It is being reported in Tuttosport that Juventus could bid for Ezequiel Lavezzi of Napoli and Lazio's Goran Pandev.

10.45 Kicker reports that FC Cologne midfielder Derek Boateng could be heading to Spain to play for Getafe.

10.30 Corriere dello Sport reports that Lazio are to go back in for Hamburg's Diego Lugano.

10.21 Burnley manager Owen Coyle has not given up hope of signing Ecuador winger Fernando Guerrero.

9.52 Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko has not given up on his dream of one day playing for AC Milan, even though his immediate future still lies in the Bundesliga.

9.30 Arsenal youngster Mark Randall will not be joining Derby County on loan.

9.21 Portsmouth look to have won the race for Hajduk Split striker Nikola Kalinic.

9.12 Phil Brown has told the Hull Daily Mail that he still hopes to sign Bobby Zamora.

9.00 Lucas Neill will decide which club he wants to play for in the next 48 hours. Galatasaray and, cough, Manchester City are interested.

08.20 Real Madrid president Florentino Perez claims he is ready to walk away from deals this summer if asking prices remain high. Liverpool are reported to want £30m for Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso, substantially above Real's valuation.

08.15 Arsenal's leading all-time goal-scorer Thierry Henry has insisted he could never encourage anyone to sign for Tottenham. He was seen chatting to Harry Redknapp on Sunday with some claiming the Spurs boss was trying to get Henry to persuade Patrick Vieira to move to White Hart Lane.

08.00 Morning everyone! It promises to be another fascinating day.
