We'll be keeping you as up-to-date as possible on the latest transfer talk in On The Move. You can catch the morning newspaper gossip in Paper Round, read up on all the Latest Transfers and then follow the developing stories in our constantly updated transfer blog here:

17.39 Obafemi Martins has backflipped all the way from Newcastle to Wolfsburg on a four-year deal, according to the German club's website. The fee is around £7m we believe.

17.23 Alonso decision expected Monday, according to our sources. A deluge of speculation to follow this weekend, we reckon.

16.40 Looks like Mido's Middlesbrough nightmare is over. Or should that read Middlesbrough's Mido nightmare is over? Anyway, he's off on loan to Egyptian club Zamalek for a season.

16.01 Lyon have confirmed the signing of Bafetimbi Gomis from rivals St Etienne. The 23-year-old said at his press conference: "I have come here to win the title back for Lyon," before going on to mention a recall for France. Which is it then Bafetimbi?

15.16 The rumour mill has it that Manchester City may go as high as £30m in their bid for Everton's Joleon Lescott. The Toffees have let it be known, via the same mill, that they won't sell at any price.

14.52 Parma's new recruit, Christian Panucci, says he almost joined AC Milan this summer. "There was almost an agreement with Adriano Galliani (Milan general manager) but he then went back on his word.''

13.37 Talking of Bents, Steve Bruce has admitted that his chase for the Tottenham version may yet end in failure. Steve Bruce, published novellist, probably does not bother with Twitter yet.

12.35 Marcus Bent may not have a Twitter feed and nor does he want a move, unlike namesake Darren. The elder Bent wants to stay at Birmingham and fight for his place, despite many a Championship wanting his services.

11.24 Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola says his summer transfer business is all but completed. "That wise man Sir Alex Ferguson definitely was right when he said that this isn't a year to sign," said Pep.

10.15 Steve Finnan finally has a one-year contract at Portsmouth. He fills a Glen Johnson-sized hole. Questionable quotes from Paul Hart: "It whetted my appetite to think that we could get a player of Steve's calibre here.''

09.39 Arsene Wenger's claims of not being bothered about spending the dough he received for Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor are nixed by Bordeaux chairman Jean-Louis Triaud saying that `"Wenger actually phoned me. He said to me that he had a list of strikers and that Marouane was on it." That Marouane is Chamakh, by the way.

09.02 Phil Brown says Hull City are still on for Bobby Zamora but is the Fulham striker still on for the Tigers?

08.45 Darren Bent to move today? Though a certain microblogging site may be the first to know.

08.24: Wolfsburg have reportedly made a deal for Obafemi Martins, in the region of £9m. Wow, some actual movement at Newcastle!

08.21: Elano has joined Galatasaray for a fee of around £8m - not that the club are that bothered about getting any money for him - and his exit will free up some space in the City midfield.

08.00: Morning, and we start off with some sensational news. Patrick Vieira could be set to return to Arsenal on a pay-as-you-play deal. Not quite sure what to make of it, but the Gunners certainly need a defensive midfielder before the season starts.

19.51: Javier Mascherano's brother has told a radio station that the player wants to join Barcelona.

17.36: Lyon have confirmed the capture of France international striker Bafetimbi Gomis from Saint-Etienne for €13m.

17.30: Kolo Toure has agreed terms with Man City and passed his medical. He will sign a four-year contract at Eastlands.

17.14: Amr Zaki's agent has confirmed that Portsmouth are the only club to have lodged an interest in his services. Sounds like they are asking for trouble.

16.52: Werder Bremen have not given up hope of signing Claudio Pizarro from Chelsea, despite the player recently stating he wants to fight for his place with the Blues.

16.36: Hamburg have completed the signing of Czech Republic defender David Rozehnal from Lazio on a three-year contract.

16.34: Real Madrid goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek has welcomed the capture of Alvaro Arbeloa and hopes another of his former Liverpool team-mates, Xabi Alonso, follows suit. Don't we all Jerzy; if only for the waiting to be over.

16.24: Kolo Toure's move to City could hit a snag after it was reported he could have been in line for a severance payment should he have completed the two remaining years of his Gunners contract. After eight years at the club, he would have also been awarded a testimonial and it's possible that this could complicate matters with his transfer.

15.54: Hamburg have clinched the signing of Czech Republic international defender David Rozehnal on a three-year deal from Lazio.

15.31: Liverpool's hopes of signing Udinese midfielder Gokhan Inler have taken a blow, as his agent confirmed he won't be leaving Italy. Arsenal have also been hovering around him for a while, so don't rule anything out just yet.

15.10: Blackburn are lining up a deal for MFK Kosice starlet Dionatan Nascimento instead. Some real high profile signings at Ewood this summer...

14.19: Alvaro Arbeloa is closing on his move to Real Madrid after passing his medical. We're still waiting to hear news on Alonso though.

14.16: Lyon have officially ended their summer-long pursuit of Nice forward Loic Remy, but could still sign Gomis as they are after more firepower.

14.06: Algerian international Kamel Ghilas has seen his proposed move to Blackburn Rovers collapse at the eleventh hour, after apparently failing the required medical tests.

13.32: Lyon appear poised to sign Bafetimbi Gomis from local rivals Saint-Etienne, according to popular French sportspaper L’Equipe.

12.56: Roma defender Juan will be staying where he is according to the club's sporting director, Daniele Prade, who has rubbished rumours of a move to Fiorentina.

12.28: Stoke midfielder Matthew Etherington has urged manager Tony Pulis to bring former team-mate Dean Ashton to the club.

12.05: Burnley manager Owen Coyle's plans to negotiate a deal for winger Fernando Guerrero have been delayed as the president of the 19-year-old's club Independiente del Valle is currently on holiday.

11.59: Bayern Munich President Franz Beckenbauer has set midfielder Franck Ribery's price tag at around €94m. Presumably in an attempt to finally end Real Madrid's interest in the Frenchman.

11.43: Brazilian youngster Zezinho is being linked with a move to Arsenal, as Arsene Wenger has reportedly offered his present club, Juventude, €1.7 million. That'll please Gunners' fans, another kid.

11.37: Mido has confirmed he is ready to take a pay-cut to secure a move away from Middlesbrough. Although it'll still take a lot to persuade someone to take a punt on him.

11.16: According to the Italian media, Barcelona defender Martin Caceres is closing on move to Juventus and will undergo a medical ahead of his €12m switch to Turin

10.44: Arsenal defender Kolo Toure is travelling to Manchester for a medical with City. Providing he passes it, we can't see personal terms being an issue.

10.34: Liverpool have confirmed they have agreed a £3.5m fee with Real Madrid for the transfer of Alvaro Arbeloa. No word on Alonso though.

10.16: Bordeaux are poised to complete the signing of Michael Ciani after announcing they have reached an agreement with Lorient over the transfer of the defender.

10.13: Roma could be interested in giving Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko a way out of the club after Harry Redknapp signed Peter Crouch; although his agent insists the 27-year-old remains committed to Spurs.

09.56: David Rozehnal is set to become a Hamburg player after arriving in the northern Germany city from Rome last night.

09.46: Manchester City have reportedly agreed to loan out striker Valeri Bojinov to Serie A new boys Parma. If he doesn't do his knee before joining them.

09.28: Alex Hleb’s move from Barcelona to Serie A champions Inter is on the verge of collapsing, according to Sky Sport Italia. They say he'll choose to return to Stuttgart instead.

09.16: Hoffenheim midfielder Carlos Eduardo has signed a one-year extension to his contract. The Brazilian's new deal will keep him at the Bundesliga side until June 2013.

08.56: Ajax have offered goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer a new contract which could tie him to the Amsterdam giants until June 2014.

08.47: Amr Zaki's future looks unclear, but Portsmouth boss Paul Hart is ready to play with fire by taking the bad boy on loan.

08.22: Hull City manager Phil Brown is already eyeing the January transfer window as a period which could be crucial to the Tigers' aspirations for the coming season. And given the side virtually disappeared in the second half of the season, we can see why.

08.00: Chelsea are set to move, finally, for Andrea Pirlo as AC Milan have targeted Man City's Elano as a potential replacement.

23.30
That just about concludes On the Move for tonight. More on Lescott and Toure to follow. City, always Manchester City...till tomorrow.

23.29 Keirrison, recently signed by Barcelona, has been sent on loan to Benfica to toughen himself up for the rigours of European football. There's a quite a lot of competition for places so he may appreciate the chance to speak Portuguese and find his feet.

22.47 Ramon Calderon, desposed president of Real Madrid, says that £80m for Cristiano Ronaldo was a fair deal. To quote: "12,000 euros is a year's salary for people here in Spain but I could spend that on a bottle of wine."

"It depends on what you expect from that investment. It's true Real Madrid is able to do that because we manage the money in the right way." An interesting take on it, considering the many questions about Real's debt. Nice to see him calling Real "we" though.

22.21 Hull City and Aston Villa join the chase for Darren Bent. Phil Brown will no doubt talk of his happiness at fighting it out for an England striker when he loses out. £14m is what Spurs want. That Daniel Levy drives a hard bargain. Up to a point.

22.01 Zlatan Ibrahimovic says he only wanted to join Barcelona and has now indulged in a bit of badge-kissing. Bit early for that?

21.20 This is one that won't go away; City are in for Joleon Lescott again, and have made an improved offer, according to certain sources. Toure imminent too.

19.45 David Villa says he wants to stay at Valencia and is glad Los Che do not want to sell him.

19.00 Sky TV suggest that Finnan has indeed joined Portsmouth. We await confirmation.

18.47 Jerzy Dudek endears himself to his former club Liverpool by saying that Xabi Alonso's move to Real Madrid would represent a "dream come true" for the Basque midfielder.

18.13 Pompey look likely to spend the Crouch cash on Cardiff striker Ross McCormack and Croatia striker Nikola Kalinic. Steve Finnan looks headed for Fratton Park too as a desperately short squad is finally adding playing staff.

17.57 Everton have decided against offering terms to Port Vale youngster James Lawrie after a recent trial. They have enough kids as it is.

17.47 Robbie Keane has hailed the arrival of Peter Crouch. "As a striker it's always good to be kept on your toes," he said. "When you've got four good strikers like we have you have to do a job, because if you don't do your job then there's someone else who can come in and take your spot.'' Although we'll see if he's quite so chipper when he's sat on the bench.

17.27 Inter Milan new boy Samuel Eto'o has rubbished suggestions he has ever had a problem with new coach Jose Mourinho. The Cameroon star had a bit of a bust-up with Jose following a Champions League match between Barca and Chelsea a few years ago, but it's all in the past.

17.16 AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has revealed he would not invest in experienced players because they "cost too much"; but coach Leonardo has responded, claiming: "A few key elements are missing from this team. Young players are good for the future, but it's obvious we need more than that. Young players are not enough."

16.51 Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones has stated that he plans to honour his four-year contract at the club. Even though Tottenham - possibly the only club interested - have now signed Peter Crouch instead.

16.29 Manchester City may have Kolo Toure nearing a move, but they have also been linked with Roma's French centre-half Philippe Mexes, who might just fancy doubling money.

16.12 Portsmouth have made a bid for Cardiff's Ross McCormack. Although he might be back in the Championship next season if they don't buy anyone else.

16.05 Lyon have agreed a deal with Fenerbahce for Spanish striker Dani Guiza, who could be a hit alongside Lisandro Lopez in France.

15.36 Benjani Mwaruwari, Valeri Bojinov and Elano are to be sold by Manchester City boss Mark Hughes, according to the Manchester Evening News. That should clear up a little space in the squad..

15.03 Real Madrid duo Rafael van der Vaart and Gabriel Heinze have reportedly been given another clear message by Manuel Pellegrini that they should seek another club by the start of the season. That's according to Marca.

14.38 Luis Figo won't be replacing him though as he has dismissed reports that he could be set to postpone his retirement to join Real Mallorca or Spurs this summer.

14.22 Deportivo de La Coruna could make a bid to sign Giovani Dos Santos from Tottenham Hotspur after he impressed for Mexico in the Gold Cup final.

13.34 Manchester City are close to agreeing a £16m fee with Arsenal for centre-back Kolo Toure. The Ivory Coast star would double his wages at Eastlands apparently.

12.49 The Evening Standard claims that Arsene Wenger is to renew his interest in Fulham's Brade Hangeland.

12.45 Lyon defender Cris has told France Football he wants to leave the club and play in a different league.

12.31 Sky Sport Italia says that Juve have now agreed terms with Barcelona's Martin Caceres.

12.13 Talks between Sunderland and Darren Bent are progressing today after the Tottenham striker was given permission to speak to the Black Cats about a potential club-record transfer.

12.09 Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has denied Hull have lodged a bid for Alan Hutton

12.01 L'Equipe quotes Sedan defender Paul Baysse as saying he has agreed to join Sunderland ahead of West Ham and Blackburn... as the Black Cats' wage offer was 20% higher.

11.33 Sky Sports is reporting that Blackburn are in talks with Celta Vigo striker Kamel Ghilas. He is an Algerian international who scored 13 goals in the Segunda division last season.

11.21 West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola remains hopeful of convincing defender Lucas Neill to sign a new deal with the club. At present Neill is essentially a free agent.

11.05 Wolfsburg have confirmed their interest in Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins.

11.01 Alvaro Arbeloa has told Marca that his move from Liverpool to Real Madrid is just about done and dusted.

10.57 Barcelona defender Martin Caceres has told Tuttosport that he does not want to go on the tour of the USA. He would rather stay back and seal a move to Juve.

10.51 It is being reported in Tuttosport that Juventus could bid for Ezequiel Lavezzi of Napoli and Lazio's Goran Pandev.

10.45 Kicker reports that FC Cologne midfielder Derek Boateng could be heading to Spain to play for Getafe.

10.30 Corriere dello Sport reports that Lazio are to go back in for Hamburg's Diego Lugano.

10.21 Burnley manager Owen Coyle has not given up hope of signing Ecuador winger Fernando Guerrero.

9.52 Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko has not given up on his dream of one day playing for AC Milan, even though his immediate future still lies in the Bundesliga.

9.30 Arsenal youngster Mark Randall will not be joining Derby County on loan.

9.21 Portsmouth look to have won the race for Hajduk Split striker Nikola Kalinic.

9.12 Phil Brown has told the Hull Daily Mail that he still hopes to sign Bobby Zamora.

9.00 Lucas Neill will decide which club he wants to play for in the next 48 hours. Galatasaray and, cough, Manchester City are interested.

08.20 Real Madrid president Florentino Perez claims he is ready to walk away from deals this summer if asking prices remain high. Liverpool are reported to want £30m for Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso, substantially above Real's valuation.

08.15 Arsenal's leading all-time goal-scorer Thierry Henry has insisted he could never encourage anyone to sign for Tottenham. He was seen chatting to Harry Redknapp on Sunday with some claiming the Spurs boss was trying to get Henry to persuade Patrick Vieira to move to White Hart Lane.

08.00 Morning everyone! It promises to be another fascinating day.

We'll be keeping you as up-to-date as possible on the latest transfer talk in On The Move. You can catch the morning newspaper gossip in Paper Round, read up on all the Latest Transfers and then follow the developing stories in our constantly updated transfer blog here:

23.59 That's it for tonight, with Peter Crouch, Zlatan and Samuel Eto'o topping the news. Join us again tomorrow.

23.30 Chris Coleman is looking to boost his defensive options following the departure of Daniel Fox to Celtic. There might be a few Madrid players going spare Chris...

22.58 Liverpool and Napoli have apparently agreed a fee for Andrea Dossena. €4.5m will be enough to get the Italian out of Anfield, much to Reds fans' delight.

22.28 Crouch's signing has virtually ensured that Darren Bent is on his way out. Expect the former Charlton man to be in a tug-of-war from a host of mid-range clubs, with Sunderland favourite.

21.57 Sensational news. Florentino Perez has admitted the Real Madrid squad is now too large and the club have to sell before they buy. Oh, and water is wet.

21.18 Tottenham have announced that they have agreed a deal to sign Peter Crouch from Pompey. Not sure why they need another striker, but they seem to have got one.

20.43 Done deal. We all thought it was a joke when we first heard it, but Samuel Eto'o has joined Inter Milan, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic going the other way. Inter get 46m euros, plus Alex Hleb for a year on loan. And we reckon they might have got the better deal.

20.13 The latest player to be mobbed by the fans at Turkish club Ankaragucu? Well, it's Ian Henderson - a 24-year-old striker who spent the second half of last season at Luton and who has previously enjoyed spells with Norwich, Rotherham and Northampton - as he's signed a two-year deal. Not quite Darius Vassell is he?

19.54 Highly rated Serbian attacker Marko Pantelic has attracted the interest of Bundesliga side Schalke, as he is available on a free transfer.

19.28 Aston Villa, still looking for a replacement for Gareth Barry, are sniffing around Sporting's Portuguese international Miguel Veloso, who turned down a move to Bolton last year.

18.52 Zlatan Ibrahimovic has sealed his move to Barcelona and signed a five-year deal at the Nou Camp. His buy-out clause? A cool 250m euros.

18.27 Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o has passed his medical with Inter Milan and has agreed a five-year deal with the Serie A champions. Ibra will be next...

18.23 Atletico Madrid's Jurado has been linked with a move to Aston Villa, but his agent has stressed that the midfielder is unlikely to leave this summer.

18.04 The future looks bright for Burnley. Manager Owen Coyle has said: "My policy at day one at the football club is to invest in young players." At least that explains his purchases of Richard Eckersley, Brian Easton, David Edgar, Tyrone Mears and Steven Fletcher.

17.39 Darren Bent has reportedly pulled out of Tottenham's pre-season tour of China as he looks to find himself another club. Sunderland calling?

17.27 AC Milan apparently announced the signing of Giuseppe Rossi on their website. And then took the story down. Is it a mistake? A hack? Or just a case of jumping the gun too early. We'll see fairly soon.

17.02 Zlatan Ibrahimovic has completed his medical with Barcelona, the European champions have confirmed, but they have detected a fracture in his left hand. Don't worry, we think the move is still on and he's set to be confirmed soon.

16.36 Espanyol have agreed to release Steve Finnan from the year left on his contract. Portsmouth or Hull are reported to be interested in him if he can prove his fitness.

16.12 Benni McCarthy says he wants Blackburn to replace Roque Santa Cruz. A loan deal for Chelsea's Franco di Santo is on the table while Big Sam Allardyce wants Russian striker Pavel Pogrebnyak, who gets the Soccernet seal of approval if they land him. Sam missed a friendly with Leeds to watch the Zenit man so it looks like he's serious.

15.55 Marouane Chamakh has been one of the most linked players of the summer with several English clubs linked. Sunderland, Blackburn, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur have all agreed terms and Arsenal are pondering it too. But "I don't know where my future lies" shows that uncertainty surrounds the Morroccan striker.

15.53 Silly link of the day: Lee Cattermole with Liverpool for £10m. Can't see it.

15.27 An odd summer for Aston Villa. They've lost two captains in Barry and Laursen and Deep Purple soundalike Zat Knight. Stewart Downing is there but cannot play until December. Now Martin O'Neill is saying he's hopeful of adding some more. Jermaine Jenas is on the list but fans of Celtic will know that MON leaves his business to the last minute of the transfer window.

15.00 Leeds United look likely to cash in on youngster Fabian Delph after boss Simon Grayson admitted he could get in the way if a Premier League club came in for him. Spurs, Villa and Everton want him.

14.11 All quiet on the transfer front so this will have to do. Manchester City have given a contract to young goalie James Wood, the son of George Wood, once of Everton and Arsenal. Young James will obviously fit in judging by these words: "Manchester City is a massive club."

12.58 Mido's off after Middlesbrough accepted an offer from an as yet unnamed club. We predict that he'll be good for them for half a season.

12.54 Wild celebrations among our Arsenal contingent to follow the news that Nicklas Bendtner says he's staying on at the Emirates - "as far as I know". Another link has him being used as a makeweight in a deal to buy AS Roma's Mirko Vucinic.

12.53 Bayern have closed the door on Franck Ribery leaving Munich and even taken the time to say that the Frenchman has not, in fact, been seeking a move elsewhere.

12.10 Samuel Eto'o is in Milan to have his Barcelona medical as this swap deal with Ibrahimovic plus a pile of bunce and Alexandr Hleb nears completion. That's if Hleb actually wants to go. He didn't seem keen the other day.

12.00 Lyon want another striker, according to boss Claude Puel. Karim Benzema has still to be replaced.

11.58 Andrea Dossena's agent is hopeful that his charge will complete a move to Napoli. 5 million euros on the table. He cost Liverpool a lot more than that so expect some haggling.

11.56 Obafemi Martins says he wants to join Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg. Better that than the Championship at crisis club Newcastle.

11.32 AC Milan have joined the chase for Klas-Jan Huntelaar, one of a selection of unwanted Dutchmen at Real Madrid. He's going to be costly if you listen to Harry Redknapp.

10.43 Further frustration for Sunderland and Steve Bruce as their move for Darren Bent stalls. Spurs want to recoup the £16.5m they paid for him.

10.19 This is a rather slow news day. Lee Cattermole is not for sale, says Wigan chief Dave Whelan who wants Sunderland to halt their interest in the midfielder.

09.07 Stoke City have agreed to sell Seyi Olofinjana to Monaco. The principality does seem a nicer spot than the Potteries...

08.30 Much talk that Spurs will complete their move for Peter Crouch. Darren Bent looks to be making way - Sunderland next for him?

We'll be keeping you as up-to-date as possible on the latest transfer talk in On The Move. You can catch the morning newspaper gossip in Paper Round, read up on all the Latest Transfers and then follow the developing stories in our constantly updated transfer blog here:

16.32 Borussia Dortmund have agreed terms to sign Argentine striker Lucas Barrios from Chile's Colo Colo.

16.26 Chelsea starlet Sergio Tejera has joined Real Mallorca on a permanent deal. It seems like quite a few of the academy are choosing careers elsewhere this summer.

16.09 Ex-Arsenal kid Rene Steer has joined Oldham on a 12 month deal after being released by the Gunners.

15.55 Eidur Gudjohnsen's future could be sorted out in the near future, as his father and agent claimed: "There is interest from a number of clubs and I expect serious discussions with clubs next week."

15.32 Zlatan Ibrahimovic has agreed terms with Barcelona. There are a few things to be ironed out - namely Alex Hleb's potential loan move - but the Swede could be set to sign for the club, with Samuel Eto'o going the other way, on Monday.

15.16 Stoke have signed Dean Whitehead from Sunderland, for £3m, in a bid to keep them in the top flight next season.

15.08 Ryan France had been on trial at Sheffield Wednesday for two weeks, had been on the club's pre-season tour and has now signed for Sheffield United. Oh dear.

14.51 Danny Fox is now a Celtic player and has made the move from Coventry. He will be able to play in the Champions League after all. Dinamo Moscow beware.

14.20 Keith Treacy is loaned by Blackburn Rovers to Sheffield United, who have also completed a £3m deal for Ched Evans. That's the fee they'll have to pay Manchester City if all works out for Chedwyn and the Blades.

13.14 No-one at Spurs will be particularly sad to see him go but Brazilian defender Gilberto has been released.

13.07 West Brom reject a bid of £4m for Jonathan Greening from Fulham. For a 30-year-old who wants to leave that looks like decent money but the Baggies are obviously holding out for more.

12.37 Aston Villa may have signed Stewart Downing but he won't be able to play for them until December, which begs the question of why Villa did not wait to sign him until January.

12.05 Alexandr Hleb may yet scupper the Ibrahimovic-Eto'o swap deal by saying he doesn't want to go to Inter. He's been offered on loan by Barcelona but clearly doesn't fancy being used a mere bargaining tool. "My aim is to make the breakthrough here and be successful with this club," he told Bild.

11.50 Race against time for Celtic as their interest in Danny Fox of Coventry City looks to be bearing fruit. They have to get the deal completed by Tuesday for him to be able to face Dinamo Moscow in the Champions League qualifier.

11.37 Steve Bruce says Marseille's Cana is "right up our street". Highly rated by our French expert it seems Brucey shares the enthusiasm.

11.36 Sigh of relief for Hammers fans. Diego Tristan will not be continuing his lumpen performances for them next season after signing for Spanish Segunda Division
side Cadiz.

11.27 Many an English club has failed to sign him and it seems they will have to wait longer after the news that Nikola Vigic will be staying at Valencia. Or so he says, anyway.

11.23 Wolves want Steve Finnan, the former Liverpool player who is not enjoying himself at Espanyol.

11.01 Liverpool continue to strengthen their youth set-up by signing 16-year-old Dortmund defender Stephen Sama. It seems likely he will link up with Christopher Buchtmann, who joined from the same club recently. Dortmund are dismissive of the move and the question of when a Liverpool youth product comes through will continue to be asked.

10.44am Ben Alnwick has joined Norwich on loan from Tottenham. The goalkeeper joins Simon Whaley from Preston and Rhoys Wiggins from Crystal Palace at Carrow Road.

10.24am Brazilian starlet Keirrison will move on loan, despite just signing for Barcelona. "We're negotiating with Ajax and Porto at the moment, but we haven't made any decision yet. I can assure you that he won't join Benfica, as was rumoured in the Spanish press," the player's agent, Marcos, told Globo Esporte.

10.06am Sunderland are closing in on a 6m euros move for Marseille captain Lorik Cana. Everton and Hamburg have been tracking the player, but Steve Bruce is now head of the queue.

9.49am Inter Milan defender Maicon is still being coy over his future. “I am here, I have a contract with Inter and I have to focus on working hard. Then we’ll see what happens,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

9.27am Napoli are in talks with Liverpool as they look to secure the services of defender Andrea Dossena. We wonder if Ezequiel Lavezzi will be part of the deal. If he hasn't been eaten of course.

9.12am Deco is now happy at Stamford Bridge after a chat with new boss Carlo Ancelotti, which might just scupper the club's plans to replace him with Andrea Pirlo.

8.59am Liverpool could be set to move for Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch, with Fulham and Tottenham also fighting it out for the 6' 7'' forward.

8.38am Park Ji-sung is set to sign a lucrative new Manchester United contract during the early weeks of the season. So United won't need to splash any more cash anyway..

8.28am Manchester United chief David Gill has said the club won't try to match Man City or Real Madrid in the spending stakes.

8.00am Carlo Ancelotti has once again reiterated that John Terry will stay. The Chelsea skipper still has yet to make a statement though.

11.59pm A quiet end to the evening and it's time for bed. See you tomorrow!

11.01pm Rumour has it that Portsmouth are on the verge of signing Hajduk Split striker Nikola Kalinic. However, Real Zaragoza are also confident of making the deal.

10.11pm Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale has told Ross McCormack he will only leave if the right offer comes in after the player handed in a transfer request.

9.49pm Andrea Dossena's agent has told IlSussidiario.net that the player would be interested in joining Napoli.

9.21pm David Beckham has insisted he is committed to playing for Los Angeles Galaxy and denied rumours that he has put his Beverly Hills home on the market.

8.36pm AZ striker Moussa Dembele may have been linked with AC Milan, but Radio MilanInter quotes agent Gabriele Savino as saying there has been no contact from the Italian giants.

7.44pm Hull have accepted an undisclosed offer for defender Sam Ricketts from another Premier League club. Ricketts, who is out of contract next summer, has been linked with Bolton, Everton and Portsmouth.

7.23pm Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano has insisted there will be no more new faces until they have offloaded dead wood. It is El Mundo Deportivo.

7.06pm Sky Sports are reporting that 23-goal Hull City target Ross McCormack has handed in a transfer request at Championship side Cardiff City.

6.25pm Arjen Robben off to Fenerbahce? That's what the Turkish press believe but we think it's dubious.

5.55pm However, Harry Redknapp has today insisted that his priority is a defender after he lost Michael Dawson, Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King to injury.

5.20pm Fulham, Tottenham, Portsmouth and West Ham are all reportedly interested in Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen.

4.54pm Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has said the club are unlikely to sign Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch as he is 'expensive'. Although he would have known the gangly forward would cost upwards of £10m, so we're not sure what he's so surprised about.

4.24pm MFK Kosice have denied that they have received an offer from Chelsea for Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic.

4.01pm Sporting have secured the services of Felipe Caicedo on loan from Manchester City, subjected to a medical. Unsurprising given the number of strikers the Citizens currently have.

3.37pm Brazilian striker Julio Baptista has no intention of leaving Roma, as his agent Herminio Menendez has clarified. "Besiktas? Panathinaikos? A player like Julio who plays for a major club like the Giallorossi cannot accept a move to those clubs," he said.

3.13pm Arsenal's young defender Havard Nordtveit is happy with links to Nurnberg. The 19-year-old is currently on loan with Norwegian outfit Lillestrom, but wants to test himself in Germany.

2.54pm Manchester City striker Felipe Caicedo is looking for a fresh start with
Sporting Lisbon after dropping down the pecking order at Eastlands. ''For me it is difficult to get in the starting XI at City and the opportunity to go to Sporting would be a personal challenge to me,'' he said.

2.34pm Barcelona and Inter Milan have agreed a deal for Samuel Eto'o and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with Eto'o eventually getting the right personal terms. 10.5m euros a season in wages apparently, although Inter look like they might have got the better half of the deal.

2.09pm Livorno president Aldo Spinelli is confident Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan will move to the Stadio Armando Picchi on a short term loan deal. ''I think at this point it will be done for next season only,'' he said.

1.57pm Sheffield United are set to sign Man City striker Ched Evans after agreeing a £3m fee for the Welshman.

1.31pm Queens Park Rangers have beaten off the competition to sign Adel Taarabt on a season-long loan from Tottenham.

1.05pm Barcelona have agreed to sign Brazilian forward Keirrison from Palmeiras on a five year contract for 14m euros ($19.91m), the Spanish and European champions said on Thursday.

1.02pm Great stuff coming from Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who has slammed wantaway striker Ezequiel Lavezzi, claiming: ''Lavezzi scored seven goals, it's not as if he scored 27... if an actor had behaved like him he would have been eaten.''

12.51pm VfB Stuttgart's attempt to sign Netherlands striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from Real Madrid has collapsed after the player failed to meet a Wednesday night deadline, the Bundesliga club said. Tottenham and Arsenal are on high alert.

12.33pm Marseille have already signed a host of new players, but have now been linked with a move for former Monaco star Jeremy Menez, who currently plays for Roma.

12.03pm AC Milan look to have given up hope on Luis Fabiano. Sevilla want 26m euro and the Rossoneri have only offered 14m.

11.55am Inter are denying that Ibrahimovic's injury will hold up his move to Barca. He's hurt his wrist....playing.

11.07am Sevilla have followed their purchase of Didier Zokora with a new defender in Sergio Sanchez, a highly-rated 23-year-old. He's left Espanyol for the promise of Champions League football.

10.37am The Samuel Eto'o and Ibrahimovic swap gets nearer as the Cameroon striker's agent says the deal will be done. Meanwhile, in true style, Ibrahimovic's agent says that he'll be taking his time.

10.01am To no-one's particular surprise, Tuncay and and Mido will be leaving Middlesbrough. Tuncay has a chance of playing for the big clubs. Mido may be fancied by one of those clubs who sign a player to get them a few points but then see him fade, as he's done at every club he's played for. A list that is mounting up.

9.11am AZ Alkmaar, Dutch champs of course, have snapped up Morten Nielsen from Chelsea. He's a 19-year-old Dane and his existence has so far evaded us in the Soccernet office. Logic dicates that's he's one of Frank Arnesen's troupe of youthful signings, very few of whom seem to have paid off.

9.09am Couple of stories to break today: John Terry is said to be likely to commit his future to Chelsea and a growing row between Liverpool and Aston Villa over the services of Portsmouth's Sylvain Distin.

6.16 Over to France and Lille have signed Gervinho from Le Mans. That's been hailed by the club as a signal of their intentions for the new season.

6.06 Fiorentina have signed Argentine striker Jose Castillo. At 33, he previously played for Lecce but has a good record in Italian football.

3.12pm Wigan have completed the signing of 18-year-old midfielder James McCarthy from Hamilton. McCarthy is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in British football, so it's a bit of a coup.

3.09pm Steve Bruce is turning his attention to other targets after being snubbed by Peter Crouch. "We have a number of irons in the fire at present and we will be looking to make several additions to our squad in the coming weeks," he said. Although one of those could be Darren Bent.

We'll be keeping you as up-to-date as possible on the latest transfer talk in On The Move. You can catch the morning newspaper gossip in Paper Round, read up on all the Latest Transfers and then follow the developing stories in our constantly updated transfer blog here:

11.00pm No big signings today, but a pretty busy weekend of transfer talk. Perhaps next week we'll see a conclusion to the John Terry saga, and maybe even Arsenal might dip into their pockets, despite what Arsene Wenger has said.

10.38pm Chelsea's Frank Lampard says he doesn't know what John Terry will do about his future. "I don't know what he will do. I've been in John's position, but everyone at the club wants him to stay," he told The Times.

9.58pm Wolves are at it again. They have entered the race for lofty Austria striker Mark Janko, but face competition from a fair few other Premier League sides.

9.18pm Real Betis’ star duo of Mark Gonzalez and Achille Emana have not reported back for training, fuelling speculation that both players could be leaving the club in the near future.

8.38pm Veteran goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek has insisted that he is happy to play second fiddle to Iker Casillas for another season. Not bad, as he gets paid, and gets to watch Kaka, Ronaldo and company up close and personal, while he doesn't have the pressure of playing.

8.07pm Arsene Wenger has said that his squad is strong enough, as he deludes himself in thinking that he doesn't have to replace Emmanuel Adebayor or even sign another midfielder.

7.43pm Former Real Madrid forward Fernando Morientes is attracting interest from Serie A side Fiorentina, following the expiration of his contract with Valencia.

7.07pm Barcelona Vice-President Jaume Ferrer is confident that the club will confirm more new faces in the coming weeks: “The club’s technicians are working to make more additions, but at the moment it is not easy," he said.

6.37pm Amr Zaki believes his future will be decided soon and the player has not ruled out a stay in Egypt. One thing is for sure, he won't be signing for Wigan. Or Sunderland.

6.14pm Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will make a decision on his future next week. The Real Madrid striker has been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham, but looks most likely to join Stuttgart as they look to replace Mario Gomez.

5.43pm Atletico Madrid coach Abel Resino is confident Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan will both be at the Vicente Calderon next season, although he admits anything could happen.

5.21pm Real Zaragoza are set to complete the signing of Getafe striker Ikechukwu Uche for a fee of €5m.

5.01pm Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy has set his sights on Nantes midfielder Guirane N'Daw as he looks to keep his side in the top flight.

4.30pm Rangers fans are getting annoyed by the lack of signings at Ibrox. John
MacMillan, general secretary of the Rangers Supporters Association, said: ''It is very disappointing but I can see the reasons behind it. We have players on long-term contracts whom we can't get rid of.''

4.17pm Samuel Eto'o is 'honoured' by the interest from Serie A champions Inter Milan, according to his agent, but is no closer to agreeing personal terms yet.

3.47pm Bayern Munich have given up in their bid to bring Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa to the Bundesliga, but might still go for a right-back, perhaps Maicon?

3.22pm Everton face some competition as Ajax have joined the race for the signature of highly-rated Swedish midfielder Rasmus Elm.

2.51pm Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho has admitted that his future is unclear, but with Inter Milan not stumping up the cash for him, he looks like staying put.

2.29pm Bobby Zamora looks set to go to Hull after Fulham accepted a £5m bid for the striker.

2.09pm AC Milan coach Leonardo has said he would welcome David Beckham back at the San Siro on loan.

1.47pm West Ham United defender Lucas Neill is reportedly set to quit the Premier League to join Turkish giants Galatasaray. It couldn't be about the money now could it?

1.23pm AC Milan coach Leonardo insists signing Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano would not be a gamble for the Rossoneri. ''Milan don't turn to the transfer market just to buy a name, if we do, it's because we need him,'' he said. Adding: ''We have a good squad and we shouldn't be in a rush."

1.08pm Hull City defender Sam Ricketts is a target for Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson, as they look to replace left-back Paul Robinson.

12.48pm Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid has said they he would not stand in Fredy Montero's way if the striker gets a chance of playing in the Premier League. Any takers?

12.24pm AC Milan are looking at Sao Paulo star Hernanes to bolster their midfield, and his agent has stated he will now cost between 12-13m euros, instead of the original figure of 25m euros.

11.54am Robinho has made it clear that he would like to see some defenders arrive at City now, and John Terry could make the team ''unbeatable.''

11.14am Milan are after Mirko Vucinic. The Rossoneri could offer 16m euros plus Ignazio Abate for the Montenegrin striker, if the deal to bring Luis Fabiano to the San Siro falls through.

10.54am Carlos Tevez has had another go at former boss Sir Alex, claiming that he might not even shake his hand the next time they meet as he is so bitter about not being played in the important games. I wonder if he'll be saying the same about Mark Hughes in six months time.

10.23am Arsene Wenger could move for Newcastle's Obafemi Martins in a cut-price deal to replace Emmanuel Adebayor. Not sure who he would negotiate the transfer with though...

9.52am Samuel Eto'o might scupper his chances of a move to Italy by asking for too much money. A deal has been agreed to swap him for Zlatan Ibrahimovic plus cash, but personal terms haven't been sorted out and Eto'o is reported to want to be the world's best paid player. Disgraceful.

9.32am Chelsea are getting on their high horses to complain about Man City's chase for John Terry and they might report them for 'tapping him up' after Mark Hughes made his interest clear.

9.26am More paper gossip this morning has David Beckham going to either Tottenham or Chelsea, in a bid to get back to full fitness before the World Cup starts next year.

9.00am Aston Villa have rejected an £18m bid for Ashley Young from Tottenham and are preparing themselves for Liverpool to get involved as well.

11.00pm: On a day when Man City were in the news signing Emmanuel Adebayor, the final piece of news appears to be the Eastlands outfit turning to Nemanja Vidic. Seems a ridiculous story, but you might have thought that when they first went for Ade. We'll keep you posted on how it develops.

10.06pm: A report suggests that Xabi Alonso's move to Real Madrid could interest Liverpool if Wesley Sneijder is included as a part of the deal.

8.48pm: Zlatan Ibrahimovic's agent Mino Raiola says he has not discussed personal terms with Barcelona yet. "The clubs have found an agreement, now we'll see," he said.

8.14pm: Real Zaragoza have reached an agreement for the signing of Nigerian striker Ikechukwu Uche.

7.42pm: West Ham United midfielder Julian Faubert has said that he is unsure of his future after a failed loan move to Real Madrid. Given he fell asleep on the bench and seemed to spend most of the time scratching himself, we're unsurprised. Any takers?

7.10pm: Bad news for Carlos Tevez, good news for Arsenal fans. Emmanuel Adebayor has finally signed for City.

6.52pm: Mark Hughes remains in the hunt for John Terry but admitted the club are prepared to end their pursuit of the Chelsea defender if something doesn't happen soon.

6.23pm: Arsene Wenger says that he won't spend the Adebayor cash unless he has to. Arsenal have plenty of strikers.. apparently.. but there was no mention of the badly needed defensive midfielder. They conceded two goals to Barnet for crying out loud!

6.18pm: FC Porto left-back Aly Cissokho has completed his move tp Lyon for 15m euros, according to reports in Portugal. Hopefully there'll be no more teething problems [sorry].

5.28pm: David Villa could be set to stay at Valencia after all as Barcelona turn their attentions to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. "It is decided, I will stay at Valencia," Villa is quoted as saying.

5.13pm: Championship manager [the computer game] legend Cherno Samba is after a contract with Swindon Town and they will decide over the weekend whether to offer it to him.

4.51pm: Bordeaux are keen to bolster their defence and as they can't seem to land Mikael Silvestre, they are pondering a swoop for out of favour Juventus defender Jonathan Zebina.

4.20pm: Gabriel Heinze is being lined up by Marseille coach Didier Deschamps as the French side try to add some extra quality to their team.

4.05pm: Central and North American champions Atlante have completed the signing of former Argentina midfielder Santiago Solari in a two-year deal, the Mexican club said.

3.55pm: Hull have dismissed reports linking them with controversial Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton. Assistant manager Brian Horton said: ''He has obviously had issues and that is a shame because he can be a very good footballer but at this present time I don't think it's an area that really needs to be looked at.'' No kidding.

3.43pm: Birmingham City defender Krystian Pearce is set for a loan move to Championship side Peterborough United, according to BBC Sport.

3.05pm: Benfica are understood to be in the market for a new defensive midfielder and are believed to have made a bid for Real Madrid youngster Javi Garcia.

2.35pm: Now Emmanuel Adebayor looks like he'll have a medical at City this afternoon. We thought he'd had it already, but appears to have been stalling over his move because of how it looks to his fans in Togo.

2.33pm: Well, after some Ibra/Eto'o stuff of interest this morning, we're back to Moritz Volz's free transfer to Malaga. Sorry.

2.03pm: Swedish U-21 star Rasmus Elm is being tracked by Everton, who have reportedly put in a bid for the midfielder.

1.16pm: Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez is looking to make a move for Crystal Palace youngster Victor Moses. Strange, as he's not from Swansea...

12.47pm: Something out of the papers this morning. Joey Barton is close to a move to Hull, for around £3m. Incredible that he still commands a transfer fee, and that anyone is actually interested in signing him.

12.27pm: Chelsea are in for Roma hitman Mirko Vucinic, and they are ready to spend 25m euros on him apparently.

12.14pm: Brazilian striker Ricardo Oliveira is set to clinch a move to United Arab Emirates outfit Al-Jazira.

11.34am: Bordeaux have not received any offers for reported Arsenal target Marouane Chamakh, coach Laurent Blanc has confirmed. So he might not go anywhere at all.

11.04am: Inter are planning to move for Sampdoria ace Antonio Cassano once the proposed Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Samuel Eto'o deal goes through.

10.56am: Gareth Barry has hit back at Rafa Benitez, saying he has a lack of respect after the Liverpool boss questioned the motives behind his move from Aston Villa to Manchester City.

10.26am: Marouane Chamakh is determined to leave Bordeaux, with Arsenal, Blackburn and Sunderland all linked with his services. He wants a move to the Emirates, but has told the Gunners to bid soon, or he'll choose another club.

10.02am: Luis Fabiano's agent his hit out at the fact his player is not being snapped up by Milan. "I feel as if I am being taken for a ride. It's not possible that one of the biggest clubs in the world allow the player to slip through their fingers for only a few million," Jose Fuentes told Il Corriere Dello Sport.

9.27am: Harry Redknapp says that he'd be keen to add Peter Crouch to increase the number of former Portsmouth players at Tottenham.

9.00am: Morning all, some Chelsea news around this morning as Carlo Ancelotti reckons no-one is safe for their first-team place. No 'untouchables'. I wonder what JT makes of that.

23.59 Barcelona again and it looks like there could be a striker arriving at the Nou Camp after all. Barcelona president Joan Laporta and director of football Txiki Begiristain are reportedly in Milan with the view of negotiating a swap deal with Inter for their ace Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Samuel Eto'o. Maybe more on this tomorrow...

23.20 Carlos Tevez, meanwhile, has revealed that he rejected Real Madrid to sign for Man City. No guesses why.

23.05 Cristiano Ronaldo thinks that Michael Owen is a good choice to fill the famous #7 Man Utd jersey. "Michael Owen is an experienced player. He has played at the biggest clubs," the Portuguese winger said. ''He has everything to win at United. He is at a fantastic club and he is a great player. It was a good decision to give him the number seven."

22.42 Manchester United have dropped their interest in Brazilian Douglas Costa. Huge price tag and the fact that Fergie doesn't want any more players might have something to do with it.

22.17 Alan Smith is attracting the attention of Sam Allardyce. Should be picked up for next to nothing, as it's doubtful he'll play much wherever he goes.

22.10 Barcelona have made another bid for David Villa, but 42m euros is not enough and Valencia have rejected it.

21.48 Sochaux have picked up U.S. striker Charlie Davies from Swedish side Hammarby.

21.33 Reports in Italy claim Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is lining up AC Milan's ex-Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini as a possible replacement for either Javier Mascherano or Xabi Alonso.

21.03 Adriano's agent, Gilmar Rinaldi, has said that his client wants to come back to Italy in the future. AC Milan are the club interested apparently, but not before December. Or possibly hell freezes over.

20.29 Andrei Arshavin has given us his words of wisdom about the Emmanuel Adebayor deal. ''It's his decision. If he wants to stay or he wants to leave," he said. Thanks for that Andy.

19.59 Everton chairman Bill Kenwright is tired of trying to run the club on a budget and rather fancies a different approach. ''I'd love to find a billionaire,'' he said, shortly before posting an advert in the local paper.

19.38 Marseille and Paris St-Germain are interested in ball-juggling seal impersonator Kerlon, as he might move on from Inter Milan on loan.

19.08 He may have landed Stewart Downing, but Martin O'Neill says he has had no bids for Ashley Young and wants the winger to stay at the club. ''No-one has come in and asked us about Ashley Young and I have got to tell you, if they did they would get short shrift,'' he said.

18.28 Reports have claimed Stoke striker Mamady Sidibe has returned from the club's training camp in Austria, but not to request a transfer - instead it is because of family reasons.

18.05 Celtic have signed midfielder Landry N'Guemo on a season-long loan deal from Ligue 1 side Nancy.

15.19 The agent of Alberto Aquilani has brushed aside reports suggesting the Italy playmaker will leave Roma for Liverpool this summer.

13.56 Barry Ferguson is having a medical at Birmingham City to confirm his move from Rangers.

13.02 Confirmation that Lucio has left Bayern Munich for Inter Milan. A surprise deal and one which would seem to rule out Ricardo Carvalho joining from Chelsea.

12.00 John Terry looks set to fly out to the USA though mobile phones and the like means that this saga is not at an end.

11.30 Peter Crouch looks set for Sunderland. £12m, he's been part of some deals in his time. Steve Bruce has his striker though one fears for the style of play.

11.12 Stewart Downing is all but a Villa player. Odd one, signing an injured player, especially at that price.

10.15 David Moyes does not want to sell Joleon Lescott. But money may talk in the end, we reckon.

10.12 David Gill says that Manchester United's transfer dealings may not be over."I will start each day with the usual emails and correspondence - and I'm sure there will be some player activity going on while we are over there." Does that mean Fergie has come across as bending the truth? Would you credit it?

8.46: Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has rejected West Brom's claims that his bid for Jonathan Greening was "derisory''.

8.10: Steve Bruce is fighting hard to take Lee Cattermole with him from Wigan to Sunderland.

8.00: Welcome to another exciting installment of transfer rumour and confirmed moves.

We'll be keeping you as up-to-date as possible on the latest transfer talk in On The Move. You can catch the morning newspaper gossip in Paper Round, read up on all the Latest Transfers and then follow the developing stories in our constantly updated transfer blog here:

11.59pm: To round off the night's gossip, the Guardian reckon Emmanuel Adebayor wants more time to think over his move to Man City because of how it will be viewed in Togo. More on the soon to be ex-Arsenal man tomorrow no doubt...

11.36pm: More Barcelona news. Boss Pep Guardiola has informed Eidur Gudjohnsen to find a new club, so West Ham are readying themselves.

11.06pm: Roma look like they'll be keeping defender Juan. The Brazilian international has been linked with moves to Real Madrid, Manchester City, and AC Milan but his agent says there have been no offers for him.

10.51pm: Genoa have already signed Sergio Floccari, Hernan Crespo, Houssine Kharja, and Emiliano Moretti this summer and have now picked up Boca Juniors striker Rodrigo Palacio. They might also land midfielder Sebastian Battaglia from the same club.

10.07pm: Bad news for Lyon's striker search. “Following consultation with the board of directors, OGC Nice Cote d’Azur have decided to put an end to any negotiations with Olympique Lyonnais for Loic Remy,” an official release stated.

9.40pm: Alexander Hleb might just move on from Barcelona soon. "I'll try my best but if my situation doesn't improve then I will have to find another club," he said.

9.13pm: David Beckham has claimed he has nothing to apologise to Los Angeles Galaxy fans for as he is ''committed'' to the club. So he won't be leaving. Well, at least until his place in the England squad for 2010 comes under threat again.

8.48pm: A confirmed deal from earlier. Maxwell has signed for Barcelona for around 4m euros.

8.43pm: Real Madrid goalkeeper [yes he's still there] Jerzy Dudek also wants Xabi Alonso, a former Liverpool teammate, to join him in Spain.

8.17pm: Arjen Robben says his father (and agent) has talked with Tottenham, but that he is happy in Madrid for the moment. Spurs seem very keen to sign him up now they appear to have lost out to Villa for the signature of Stewart Downing.

7.52pm: Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness understands Franck Ribery's desire to quit the club for Real Madrid. ''I understand Franck completely," Hoeness said. ''We are talking about sums that none of us can understand, and the bloke is only 26." Doesn't mean he'll let him go though.

6.24pm Wigan Athletic are considering making an offer for Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra, who is also the subject of a £5m bid from Ligue 1 champions Bordeaux.

5.32pm: Tottenham fans will be gutted. Midfielder Adel Taarabt's proposed loan move to Malaga has collapsed. Although he's probably still going to be on his way out of White Hart Lane.

5.09pm: FIFA is planning to tighten regulations to further squeeze unlicensed agents out of the game. Apparently only 25-30% of transfers worldwide are conducted by approved agents, so it should be a good thing.

5.02pm: AC Milan are monitoring the contract situation with Barcelona's Carles Puyol as the defender has not yet signed an extension to his deal that runs out in 2010. Who wouldn't be keen to line up alongside 'The Gooch'?

4.53pm: Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor will have a work permit hearing in Manchester tomorrow, which seems to suggest that the Togo man is on his way to join Carlos Tevez at Eastlands.

4.39pm: Juventus coach Ciro Ferrara says he would like to have David Trezeguet around next season, despite the fact that he seems keen to move on.

4.24pm: Raul has likened the impact of Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival at
Real Madrid with that of David Beckham, claiming: ''I was as excited when Beckham started to play with us as I am with the arrival of Cristiano.'' Evidently not a reader of papers over the past year and a half then..

4.07pm: Real Madrid could be set for disappointment as Bayern won't sell Franck Ribery and now Liverpool appear to be standing firm over Xabi Alonso.

3.48pm: No sooner has Mark Hughes captured the signing of the non-English speaking Carlos Tevez, then he goes and admits that the club are in talks with Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor. What's Argentine for ''you could be on the bench''?

12.58pm: Nigeria striker Ikechukwu Uche is set to leave Getafe this summer, with Real Zaragoza, Valencia and Sevilla all interested in the pacey forward.

12.38pm: Haven't heard much on David Villa's possible transfer for a while, so here's an update. Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has told the player that the Nou Camp club will wait for him. So sorry, no resolution just yet.

12.19pm: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is on his way out of Madrid as he hasn't even made it for the pre-season tour. However, Stuttgart are no closer to signing him as his agent Arnold Oosterveer claimed in an interview with Calciomercato: “The German club has reached an agreement with Real Madrid, but not with us.”

12.09pm: AC Milan are apparently ''locked in talks'' with Luis Fabiano. So any hope that Manchester City have of signing him appears to have gone. No news from Adebayor as yet, but Arsenal fans are hopeful...

9.42am: Sao Paulo star Hernanes could be set to move to AC Milan as they look to replace Kaka and possibly Andrea Pirlo. Brazilian, young, from Sao Paulo.. now where have we heard that before? He wouldn't be exactly like Kaka, but it's not a bad start.

9.27am: Habib Beye has said he must leave Newcastle to save his career. Doubtless other Toon players will probably feel the same.

9.03am: Hull's search for a striker looks set to end as Sunderland's Daryl Murphy could be at the KC Stadium by the end of the week.

8.42am: Felipe Melo is expected to join Juventus within the next few hours, so that's a disappointment for Arsenal fans too.

8.20am: Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is interested in Patrick Vieira apparently. That would probably rile a few Gunners fans.

8.00am: Carlos Tevez again, and he's ready to make his £25m move to Man City today. City fans will be pretty happy about that and so will Carlos, if he actually plays.

14.58 Fulham have been linked with South Africa international Kagiso Dikgacoi and he is set for a trial.

14.31 Tottenham and Sevilla have agreed a fee for the transfer of Didier Zokora.

14.16 And it's a done deal! The 20-year-old has signed a four-year deal and moved from Bordeaux for an undisclosed fee.

14.09 A " friend of a friend" has just seen Gabriel Obertan at the Marriott Hotel in Manchester. His move to Old Trafford is very close now.

13.58 West Brom have won the race to sign Swindon hotshot Simon Cox. He will cost the Baggies £1.5m initially.

13.27 Everton hope to complete their loan move for Man City's Jo in time for Friday's friendly against Bury.

13.14 Bolton boss Gary Megson has made bids for Ferrie Bodde.of Swansea and West Brom's Paul Robinson as he looks to add six new faces,

12.45 Manchester City are obviously short on strikers and, according reports in Spain, have made a bid for Villarreal's Giuseppe Rossi. The bid has apparently been rejected, though.

12.34 England 71-2 and some news just in. AC Milan do not want Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and want Luis Fabiano. That's because new boss Leonardo wants, well, someone from his own country. Milan's bid had been accepted but now they don't want him, leaving the door open for Peter Crouch....

11.26 Real Madrid seem to be pleading poverty in their hunt for Xabi Alonso and Franck Ribery. Jorge Valdano says that both cost too much. Or so he tells Radio Marca 80 million euros is too much for the Frenchman, says the Real Man, who says Maicon is off the radar for the same reason. We'll see.

10.59 Birmingham City have brought Lee Bowyer back permanently after his contract at West Ham United expired.

10.49 It's a slow morning as we prepare for the first ball to be bowled at Sophia Gardens. Couple of lines; Robin Van Persie stays at Arsenal ending his participation in this page and Burnley boss Owen Coyle has followed his Scottish roots in chasing Hamilton Accies defender Brian Easton.

08.45 Robbie Fowler has denied that he's going to blow out his contract in North Queensland with the Fury, who may well live up to their name if he does join up with John Barnes at Tranmere Rovers. "Growler" has denied the rumours.

23.05 Former Arsenal midfielder Edu has returned to Brazil to sign for Corinthians.

22.55 Last night we told you that 16-year-old Esbjerg starlet Nikolaj Kohlert was being linked with Liverpool, and now the player says he's confident of penning a three-year contract

21.46 Chelsea remain confident of making a big signing before the window shuts, says chairman Bruce Buck.

21.15 Talk of Andrea Pirlo joining Atletico Madrid is apparently rubbish.

20.01 Wolfsburg have signed Algeria international midfielder Karim Ziani from Marseille for an undisclosed fee.

19.43 Matthew Lund and Ben Marshall have moved to Stoke City from Crewe's famous Academy.

19.25 Another big money buy in the Championship as Richie Wellens moves from Doncaster Rovers to Leicester City for a fee which could rise to £1.2m.

18.56 Marseille and Atletico Madrid are being linking with Le Mans star Gervinho. Ricky Gervais' nickname?

18.25 Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Yuri Zhirkov from CSKA Moscow on a three-year contract.

18.05 Inter have signed 21-year-old Brazilian Kerlon on a free transfer. But they do not like Chelsea's asking price for Deco and Ricardo Carvalho.

17.26 Birmingham City have completed the signing of striker Christian Benítez for a club-record fee of £7-7m. The Ecuadorian has joined from the Mexican club Santos Laguna.

17.08 Out of favour Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari says he would love to play for Portsmouth again after starting just eight games for the Eastlands club last season.

16.07 Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has once again raided his former club Swansea City and made a bid for 30-year-old Trinidad and Tobago striker Jason Scotland.

15.30 Despite splurging over €200m in the transfer market and spending money like it is going out of fashion Real Madrid can't afford to buy Xabi Alonso from Liverpool. Los Blancos' general director Jorge Valdano said: "Xabi Alonso is a priority if he fits into our budget, but that does not seem to be the case. We are very far away from the figures that Liverpool have presented."

15.11 Gabriel Obertan's move to Manchester United has moved a step closer to completion. The 20-year-old Bordeaux winger is in Manchester having a medical.

14.53 Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2013. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "We are delighted that Ben has signed a new four-year deal."

14.27 Those of you who don't like long, drawn out transfer saga's will be pleased to hear that Bayern Munich have set a deadline of July 16 for any deal for Franck Ribery to be completed. Bild claim the Bavarians want all the speculation to end by the time their pre-season training camp in Donaueschingen begins.

13.40 Fiorentina are prepared to trade Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo in exchange for Arsenal full-back Emmanuel Eboue. "[Arsene] Wenger wants to talk to me,'' said Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino. "I have no objection also because Eboue seems a valid swap.''

12.57 AC Milan have signed United States centre-back Oguchi Onyewu in a bid to quell supporter unrest over their transfer policy. The 27-year-old, who impressed at the Confederations Cup, has joined on a free transfer from Standard Liege.

12.30 Manchester United are interested in signing Samuel Eto'o, according to L'Equipe. The French newspaper contacted the Barcelona striker's entourage and nobody denied the Red Devils' interest... although I assume they didn't deny interest from Warrington Town either.

12.00 Lee Bowyer is set to join Birmingham City on a permanent basis from West Ham United on a free transfer. The former England midfielder enjoyed a successful loan spell at St Andrew's during the second half of last season.

11.42 Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais have signed 26-year-old FC Porto striker Lisandro Lopez for €24m, plus €4m in performance related add-ons, according to reports.

11.26 AC Milan have confirmed they have made a double swoop for Real Madrid's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Sevilla's Luis Fabiano. Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani said: "Milan have made offers for Huntelaar and Fabiano, but it's a difficult market because Real Madrid's spending has meant prices have doubled since last year."

11.06 The agent of the Brazilian international Maicon, who has been trying to flog the defender to Real Madrid all summer, has now suggested that his client will be staying at Inter Milan. "In the end, I believe that Maicon will follow [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, and remain with Inter," Antonio Caliendo said.

10.38 Real Madrid seem to be involved in almost every transfer story today and the Spanish club have apparently given Liverpool a two week deadline in which to conclude the sale of Xabi Alonso. New Real coach Manuel Pellegrini is keen to sign a defensive midfielder but will end his interest in Alonso after July 19.

10.21 According to Cheslea chief executive Peter Kenyon it doesn't matter if Manchester City stump up £40m for John Terry as the Blues skipper is going nowhere. "He [Terry] is not available at any price," Kenyon said. "He's got a three-year contract. He's told us he doesn't want to go and we don't want him to go. End of story."

09.53 Birmingham City chairman David Gold still harbours hopes of signing Inter Milan crock Patrick Vieira. "I'd like to think there are a couple more signings who might whet the appetite and I don't think the Vieira deal is dead," Gold said.

09.38 Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho has once again stated his desire to quit Stamford Bridge and head to Inter Milan to be reunited with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho.

09.30 Another of Real's Dutch departures could be prolific striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy. The former Man United forward is a target for Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce.

09.00 According to this morning's newspapers Bordeaux starlet Gabriel Obertan will sign for Manchester United today in an £8m deal. The 20-year-old midfielder will apparently sign a four-year contract.

08.30 It seems that as desperate as Real Madrid are to offload their Dutch contingent there enough clubs who are desperate to take them. Chelsea will consider taking Holland forward Wesley Sneijder off their hands if they fail to land Franck Ribery.

08.00 Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is preparing to make a £20m swoop for Real Madrid striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar. The 25-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the Bernabeu after scoring 113 goals in 136 games in Holland.

We'll be keeping you as up-to-date as possible on the latest transfer talk in On The Move. You can catch the morning newspaper gossip in Paper Round, read up on all the Latest Transfers and then follow the developing stories in our constantly updated transfer blog here:

11.59pm It's time for the transfer blog to close for today. Sleep tight, and we'll be back in the morning for another day of speculation and rumour.

11.12pm There's an impasse between Juventus and Udinese over a deal for Gaetano D'Agonstino which means the playmaker will not be heading for Turin.

10.33pm Espanyol will sign Argentine right-back Ivan Pillud on loan from Tiro Federal.

10.15pm Marco Marchionni has agreed to join Fiorentina from Juventus.

10.01pm Adel Taarabt wants to leave Tottenham. Spurs fans are probably surprised to hear he's even still there!

7.44pm The latest player to be linked with Manchester City? Bayern Munich defender Lucio. Meanwhile, Barcelona have denied Carles Puyol will be heading to Eastlands.

6.52pm Manchester United youth player Lee Martin has signed for Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee.

5.22pm More Liverpool news - Yossi Benayoun has signed a new contract.

5.01pm AC Milan look like they are about to start splashing the Kaka cash. They are in for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar of Real Madrid and Sevilla's Luis Fabiano. No Emmanuel Adebayor, then?

4.45pm It looks like Liverpool could be about to bolster their youth set-up with the signing of Nikolaj Kohlert. He's a 16-year-old Dane currently on the books of Esbjerg.

3.59pm Tottenham Hotspur are are tracking Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente and will offer €15m, but the Spanish club want no less than €30m

2.53pm Atletico Madrid want a suitable offer from Benfica for Jose Antonio Reyes by Saturday, or the move will collapse, according to the Spanish club's president, Enrique Cerezo.

2.24pm Hull City's search for firepower has led them to Fulham's Bobby Zamora, for some inexplicable reason.

1.41pm Cristiano Ronaldo has passed a medical ahead of his move to Real Madrid. The winger is to be unveiled at the Bernabeu tonight in front of an expected 80,000 fans.

12.23pm Roma defender Philippe Mexes is the latest to deny he has his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge, or anywhere else for that matter. "It always gives me pleasure when a team is interested in me but I am happy at Roma," he said, not entirely convincingly.

11.48am Andrea Pirlo says he is staying at AC Milan, despite rumoured interest from Chelsea. "I am calm, I have a contract with Milan and I want to stay.''

11.15am Blackburn Rovers are to open contract negotiations with midfielders Steven Reid and David Dunn as both have entered the final year of their current contracts.

10.45am Bordeaux starlet Gabriel Obertan could be the next player to join Manchester United. The 20-year-old winger has attracted the attention of a host of European clubs but Sir Alex at the front of the queue according to president Jean-Louis Triaud.

10.05am Carlo Ancelotti is facing the media has and wasted no time in saying John Terry will be going nowhere. "We want him to stay for life," says the new Chelsea boss.

09.52am Looks like those finishing touches were completed over the weekend because Chelsea have just this second confirmed that Zhirkov is now officially a Chelsea player.

09.27am CSKA winger Yuri Zhirkov is apparently in London putting the finishing touches to his £18million move to Chelsea. Looks like Carlo Ancelotti will only have been in the job a matter of hours before he starts splashing the cash.

09.00am But don't worry Spurs fans because 'Arry is hoping to bring 36-year-old Luis Figo to White Hart Lane to lead his three-man squad. The Tottenham boss spoke to the Portuguese during a golf tournament in the Algarve.

08.30am Apparently Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has put his entire squad up for sale, apart from Aaron Lennon, Jermaine Defoe and Jonathan Woodgate. Not sure that will have a positive influence on team spirit.

08.00am Manchester City are preparing a £40m offer for Chelsea skipper John Terry. They had a £30m bid rejected last week.

The sporting world had its eye on SW19 and the interminable Wimbledon Final between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick with the Swiss racketeer finally winning over four hours in.

It seems even the wheelers and dealers of the transfer treadmill may have been watching the tennis though the fact that Michael Ballack was onlooking at Centre Court at the same time as Sir Alex Ferguson was present hardly serves as a link. That bridge was burned some years ago.

One little snippet came from Bayern Munich ambassador Boris Becker. The German tennis legend, while commentating for the BBC, was saying that his beloved club are doing their best to keep hold of Franck Ribery in the face of interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid. No mention of Manchester United there and Bayern's new boss, the lugubrious Louis Van Gaal, has said he wants a swift conclusion to this latest saga as he would like to spend the cash received if the Frenchman does indeed leave.

Another lengthy linkage is that of Javier Mascherano with Barcelona, despite Liverpool's desire to keep Argentina's captain. When players that will lose their place to a new signing call for the new arrivak, as Sergi Busquets did this weekend, then we have to think there's substance to the story.

Little development on Saturday's John Terry rumours, which remains just those; rumours. Most English newspapers are running with this one and with Chelsea needing money to spend under their latest new regime, then a mooted third Manchester City bid may well be successful.

Some silliness abounds about Harry Redknapp trying to lure Luis Figo out of retirement but this sporting weekend, with tennis, Le Tour, British & Irish Lions and Ashes pre-amble all in gear has been a quiet one for rumours of substance.

Most teams are back for training on Monday; the fun may hot up then. The holidays are over and football will soon be the biggest show in town again.

The jungle drums are building their rhythm up to a potentially amazing deal that will see John Terry join Manchester City from Chelsea. Forget Michael Owen, this would be the sensation of the summer (in England). Some rumours building out in cyberspace, none of them attributable, and we should take Chelsea's avowed intent to keep their captain as gospel until we know something else.

The Guardian ran a line on Saturday that Chelsea were insulted by a mere £30m and want £50m and this is followed by the intriguing news that Terry pulled out of a testimonial game at Yeovil, former employers of brother Paul. The other talk is that City are prepared to pay him £300,000 a week, money to make even Cristiano Ronaldo wince. JT meanwhile is staying in Tenerife rather than heading to Cobham to greet new boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Elsewhere, Real Madrid president has intimated that he wants to sign both Xabi Alonso and Franck Ribery but neither's club want to sell. Not that he's been stopped before by such resistance. These are the two more players he wants while he also wants to get rid of another ten...while signing just one defender in Raul Albiol.

On the chopping block at the Bernabeu are Ruud van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Royston Drenthe and Klaas Jan Huntelaar. There's a theme there somewhere...

Gunners target Melo, last seen in the yellow of Brazil, has joined Juventus according to reports. Though not those coming from club Fiorentina who say that their midfielder is staying.

Manchester United have money to spend after signing Magic Mike Owen and some of it may have been spent on a sixteen-year-old, Empoli full-back Alberto Massacci who says he has spoken on the phone to Sir Alex for "an hour". Either his English is good and his parents have a full box-set of "Taggart" or the Govan-or has linguistic skills we didn't know of.

Over in Italy, Milan want either Luis Fabiano or the aforementioned Huntelaar. Strikers are in short supply theses days, hence the silly money for Benzema, Ibrahimovic and the risk taken on Mickey O. The window has nearly two months to go but it's steaming up by the hour....

We'll be keeping you as up-to-date as possible on the latest transfer talk in On The Move. You can catch the morning newspaper gossip in Paper Round, read up on all the Latest Transfers and then follow the developing stories in our constantly updated transfer blog here:

19.00pm Owen to United is confirmed, he's been pictured in the shirt and with a scarf. Angry scenes on message boards on Soccernet and among United and Liverpool fans. Owen's success with his brochure may yet give rise to a new trend.

17.50pm Seville striker Luis Fabiano looks as though he is close to joining AC Milan after his agent stated that "he cannot let an opportunity of this size pass him by".

17.18pm Chelsea have confirmed that they have signed Manchester City starlet Daniel Sturridge on a four-year contract, with the fee to be set by a tribunal as neither club can come to an agreement.

16.56pm Franck Ribery has apparently skipped a training session with Bayern, as he is desperate to make the move to Real Madrid.

16.49pm Galatasaray are strengthening and have confirmed the double signing of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Leo Franco and Lyon winger Abdul Kader Keita.

16.35pm Arsenal have announced that Kieran Gibbs has signed a new long-term contract extension with the club. Adding to Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey.

16.23pm Manchester United starlet Rodrigo Possebon has joined Sporting Braga on loan and immediately declared his love for the Estádio Municipal, which is built into a mountain. "I've never seen anything like it," said the 20-year-old.

15.56pm After a big 'get stuffed' from Chelsea in their pursuit of John Terry, Manchester City have now turned their attention to Valencia defender Carlos Marchena

15.13pm Patrick Vieira's agent has opened the door for a return to England after the Inter midfielder's move to PSG broke down. Roland Courbis says Vieira needs to play regular football ahead of next year's World Cup.

14.28pm Newcastle United winger Jonas Gutierrez insists he has not been contacted about a possible loan move to Porto, in his continued bid to instigate a loan move to Porto.

13.45pm Wolves have completed the signing of Sunderland utility belt, sorry, man, Greg Halford. Mick McCarthy is a busy man this week isn't he?

13.15pm Dynamo Kiev have offered Andriy Shevchenko an escape route from Chelsea. The Ukrainian champions want Shevchenko to come back as a player initially, then become a coach, and presumably educate youngsters how not to live up to a massive price tag.

12.47pm Bayern Munich haven't given up hope of signing Chelsea right-back Jose Bosingwa. Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says the book "isn't closed". Whether the Portuguese chooses to open that book is another matter.

12.15pm Linvoy Primus has penned a one-year extension at Portsmouth, but don't expect to see the veteran defender anywhere near the first team, he's staying on purely as a "mentor" to the youngsters, and so he can qualify for a testimonial. Who said there's no sentiment in football?

11.25am Former Man City midfielder Dietmar Hamann is ready to snub Hull CIty for a move to 1860 Munich. And why not? Meanwhile, Salif Diao is set to sign a one-year extension to his Stoke City contract.

10.45am Arsene Wenger has been busy this morning. Not content with fluttering his eyelids in Marouane Chamakh's general direction, the Arsenal manager now says he's confident Emmanuel Adebayor will still be a Gunner next season.

10.18am PSV want to complete the signing of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink after he left Celtic.

9.58am AC Milan have made a 14m euros bid for Sevilla's Brazil international striker Luis Fabiano after missing out on Edin Dzeko, and Emmanuel Adebayor. He'll probably cost a bit more than that.

9.43am Reports from Italy claim that veteran Italian striker Christian Vieri is going to join Blackburn. What a result for the Rovers... not!

9.33am Niall Quinn has dismissed suggestions central defender Anton Ferdinand could be sold this summer.

9.23am More Gunners' news as Wenger is keen on Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh and also confirmed he was tracking Karim Benzema before his move to Real Madrid.

9.00am Barcelona president Joan Laporta has claimed he is interested in bringing Cesc Fabregas back to Camp Nou. Unsurprising, but Cesc still has to make up his mind.

8.40am Michael Owen, Michael Owen, Michael Owen. No, not Stoke, Hull or Olympiakos, but Manchester United. He'll complete a full medical later before completing his surprise free transfer switch.

We'll be keeping you as up-to-date as possible on the latest transfer talk in On The Move. You can catch the morning newspaper gossip in Paper Round, read up on all the Latest Transfers and then follow the developing stories in our constantly updated transfer blog here:

11.59pm Former European Footballer of the Year Michael Owen may be on the verge of joining Manchester United from relegated Newcastle United, according to several reports in the UK media. The England international could move to the Premier League champions if he passes a stringent medical examination.

11.07pm Former Valencia defender Raul Albiol has become the latest player to be presented to the fans at the Santiago Bernabeu following his €15m (£13m) switch from the Estadio Mestalla. The Spain international, who has recently returned from the Confederations Cup in South Africa, said: "I don't have to say that I'm very happy to be here. It comes with great pride to be welcomed like that."

10.11pm Real Madrid have abandoned their pursuit of Valencia striker David Villa after buying Karim Benzema from Olympique Lyon, director general Jorge Valdano said on Thursday. Asked if the Frenchman's arrival had put an end to their bid for Villa he said: "Benzema and Villa both have these [goal scoring] characteristics so the answer to your question is yes."

8.24pm Wolves have announced Serbia midfielder Nenad Milijas has been granted a work permit following a successful apeal. The 26-year-old from Red Star Belgrade signed two weeks ago but he fell just short of the minimum number of international appearances required to secure a permit.

6.56pm Senegal defender Souleymane Diawara is set to leave Girondins Bordeaux for Olympique Marseille for a fee of around €6m. "There is an agreement in principle but the move is still pending medical tests. The player will then sign for four years," Marseille said on their website.

6.00pm Arsenal might not have signed too many big name players in the transfer window but they have certainly signed up plenty of their youngsters to new deals and Jack Wilshere has become the latest to commit to the Gunners.

5.38pm: Chelsea have bought themselves a nice backup to Petr Cech in 'Boro keeper Ross Turnbull, who has signed a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge. On a free too.

5.31pm: Bayern are not working themselves up too much over the future of Franck Ribery. Bayern Munich executive chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge reckons that: "Personally, I read Franck's statement like that: either Real Madrid or nothing. And our clear reply is: nothing!'' So that's that sorted then.

5.15pm: Liverpool are apparently interested in midfielder Gaetano D'Agostino, according to Udinese sporting director Sergio Gasperin. Juventus head the queue though, so Rafa Benitez might have to turn his attention elsewhere.

5.03pm: Lyon are going back in for FC Porto striker Lisandro Lopez and have confirmed that: "Negotiations have not broken down. We are still interested in signing the player." He should fill a Benzema-shaped hole quite nicely if they can bring him in.

4.58pm: Jack Wilshere has joined Aaron Ramsey in signing a new long-term deal at Arsenal. Good news for fans of the Carling Cup.

4.21pm: The latest in the David Villa saga: Valencia president Manuel Llorente reckons that there are no negotiations going on with Barcelona, which goes against almost everything we've heard from the Nou Camp club. It would be nice if someone would just admit there are talks going on, then he might actually sign something.

3.57pm: Nemanja Vidic's agent has quashed speculation the Manchester United defender will leave Old Trafford this summer. Barcelona, AC Milan and a host of others are interested in the Serbian, but he's going nowhere.

3.49pm: Uefa president Michel Platini says he is ''embarrassed'' by the amount of money changing hands in the transfer market although he insists he is powerless to stop it. And a good thing too, otherwise we'd have nothing to write about!

3.29pm: Arsenal fans might want to close their eyes again. But only because it's Jose Antonio Reyes we're talking about now. A player who Arsene Wenger paid a vast sum of money for now can't get a game at Atletico Madrid or Benfica and now looks set to move to Fiorentina.

3.01pm: Arsenal fans close your eyes. Cesc Fabregas has said he wants to play for Barcelona. El Mundo Deportivo asked him and he said: “I would like to''... Ok now open them again, as he added: ''but I have a contract with Arsenal and it is necessary to respect it.” Disclaimer: It is not actually advisable to read transfer rumours with your eyes closed. Or ride bikes, Phil.

2.38pm: Mark Hughes won't be messed around with in the transfer deals for Carlos Tevez or Samuel Eto'o. "We will give every deal the patience we feel it deserves and if we get to a point where we feel things aren’t going to happen and we feel the process is stalling then that’s the time we walk away, and we’ve done that in the past," he said.

2.05pm: PSG are in for Patrick Vieira. The ex-Arsenal skipper is attracting attention now that his Inter Milan future looks bleak and the French club are interested - although ''not at any price'' as they have already splashed cash on Mevlut Erding and Gregory Coupet.

1.49pm: Despite already owning a host of talented strikers, Bayern Munich are adopting the Newcastle United approach to the transfer window and are now supposed to be interested in Swedish U-21 star Marcus Berg.

1.20pm: Roma striker Vincenzo Montella has retired, according to Il Corriere Dello Sport. AC Milan are planning a raid to put him at the heart of their defence...

1.12pm: Benzema replacement watch: Lyon want to sign Real Madrid's Dutch striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy, but probably should have thought about getting him involved in the deal in the first place. Plus, he might join Blackburn!

12.32pm: Wolves are continuing their pursuit of players, and have gone for Greg Halford. He's played for Colchester, Reading, Sunderland, Charlton Athletic and Sheffield United in little under two years - so what's one more club?

12.20pm: Odd one this. A Japanese consortium have taken over Plymouth. Not sure how, why, or what their plans are; but expect a lot of Japanese internationals to suddenly be plying their trade on the English south coast.

12.09pm: Chelsea are expected to complete the signing of 'Boro goalkeeper Ross Turnbull by the end of the week. The stopper wants first-team football, but has evidently been persuaded to forget his ambition for a nice pay-day. Petr Cech won't be worried.

11.52am: Barcelona president Joan Laporta is really pulling at the heart strings when he says he has been ''saddened'' by the Samuel Eto'o situation. A deal of two years, with the same salary seems a fair offer, so we can understand why he's sad: it's the greedy and money-grubbing nature of modern footballers. We sort of hope that Eto'o goes to Man City and stews in mid-table if he doesn't accept that offer - but then he would have his mountain of cash to keep him happy.

11.29am: The search for Benzema's replacement goes on and why not another tall, but slightly older, French striker - David Trezeguet? Goal.com have an interview in which Trezeguet's agent Antonio Caliendo has said the Juventus man could join Lyon or Atletico Madrid. But hinted he would prefer a move back to France.

11.12am: It's been around for a while, but Blackburn might be finally making their move for Chelsea striker Franco Di Santo. "We would be interested in anybody from Chelsea if the price is right for us," said Big Sam. Really? Even Hilario?

10.52am: Southampton are clinging to the wreckage and they're pretty keen to keep 'keeper Kelvin Davis, who would rather jump ship and sign for West Ham - even if it means sitting on a bench behind Rob Green.

10.35am: Stoke PR machine going into overdrive. They're not interested in Obafemi Martins though and, given he turns up late for training most of the time and can't hit a cow's barn door with a banjo [or some other such action], we're not surprised.

10.28am: Stoke have played down links with West Ham defender James Collins. They could probably use another centre-half though. We'll see how this develops.

10.16am: Quotes from Mr Ribery appear to have sealed his future. "I have decided that I want to leave. It will be Real Madrid or nothing,'' said the Frenchman. So Madrid it is.

10.05am: Sunderland are keen to snap up Reading winger Stephen Hunt as he is poised to leave the Madejski Stadium and has a host of clubs sniffing around him.

9.58am: West Ham and Wigan are considering a move for Peter Lovenkrands, as the former Newcastle winger is available on a free.

9.52am: Lyon's Abdul Kader Keita - linked with a few Premier League clubs - is on his way to Galatasaray. So now the French club need to sign two strikers.

9.45am: Wigan have added another Honduras player to their squad - Hendry Thomas from Deportivo Olimpia - and are considering changing their name to Wigan Olimpia.

9.36am: It looks like Sol Campbell is on his way out of Portsmouth, as the club are releasing players like it's going out of fashion. His wages might be a problem, but he can always head off 'abroad' to.. erm.. Villa.

9.30am: Morrning all, and we'll start of with more Franck Ribery talk. L'Equipe claim that he's said he really wants to go to Madrid. Can the Bernabeu club dig deep into their pockets and come up with another huge bid to finish off their frontline.

11.36pm: Bringing a close to proceedings on Wednesday night is a fantastically unsubstantiated piece of gossip. Ready? Here goes: AC Milan are interested in everyone's favourite elongated striker, Peter Crouch.

The rumour goes that the England man - and sometime robot dance move aficionado - is just the man Milan are looking for. Though quite whether the fans will see Crouchy as Kaka's long-term successor remains to be seen.

Anyway, if this implausible report turns out to be true, remember we told you first. If it proves to be wibble of the highest order, it came from Studio Sport.

10.36pm: HOLD THE FRONT PAGE! Jim Gannon has only gone and made his first signing since becoming Motherwell manager.

And what a signing it is! No, not Carlos Tevez, but 24-year-old Tranmere midfielder Steve Jennings... Someone shoot me.

7.15pm: Inter Milan have given 53-year-old defender Marco Materazzi a new contract keeping him with the Serie A champions for another three seasons. Ok, he's actually only 35, but you get the point...

6.04pm: So, after Kaka, Ronaldo and Raul Albiol 21-year old Benzema becomes Madrid's fourth signing of president Florentino Perez's second stint at the club and takes spending to over 200m euros.

5.55pm: The fee for Benzema is at least 35m euros (£30m) and could rise to 41m euros depending on various performances clauses.

5.49pm: Lyon have agreed to sell Karim Benzema to Real Madrid! More when we get it...

5.29pm: Well we never thought we'd see this happen. A player has gone from West Ham to Sheffield United. Evidently all the water has passed under the bridge since the days of 'Tevez-gate' and Kyel Reid is the man. Ok fine, it's not all roses as Reid was actually a free agent meaning he could go wherever he pleased.

5.10pm: Things not to do: number one is wait until everyone knows you've got a cool £30m knocking around from the sale of one of your star players and THEN make a bid for his replacement. Case in point: Lyon with Karim Benzema and Porto's Lisandro Lopez. Of course Porto are going to want more than the £15m you've bid, especially when they know you're desperate for a striker and have bags of cash falling out of your pockets! The fools.

4.53pm: After a strong showing at the Confederations Cup, Standard Liege defender Oguchi Onyewu could be on the move. English side Fulham are interested, but at the moment it looks like Genoa and Fenerbahce are the ones in the driving seat.

4.21pm: Thiago Motta has completed his move to Inter Milan. So all those English clubs that were tracking the former Barcelona star can now back off..

3.49pm: Real Madrid may have a host of players coming in, but Christoph Metzelder could be on his way out. The German defender is on his way to Besiktas where he will link up with fellow Germans Fabian Ernst and Michael Fink.

3.34pm: Corinthians defender Andre Santos, still polishing his Confederations Cup winners' medal says he would happily ''run to Italy'' in order to get a transfer to AS Roma. With John Arne Riise possibly on his way out, the Italians are in the market for a full-back or two - although they'd probably want one that wasn't knackered.

3.07pm: Arsenal have a new signing. But, calm down Gunners fans, it's just Aaron Ramsey, who has signed a new long-term deal at the Emirates.

3.02pm: Defender alert! Brazil's Confederations Cup winner Lucio could be on his way out of Bayern Munich after he revealed he has been ''sad'' about rumours that the club don't want him anymore. ''A transfer would be the best thing for me to find peace again,'' he said. Better not join Man City then.

2.36pm: Juventus have been busy denying that they're interested in any players and certainly haven't been talking to AC Milan about David Trezeguet and Amauri. Juventus director Renzo Castagnini said: "It's all just stupid news." And doesn't that just sum it all up.

2.18pm: Burnley have begun to pick through the wreckage of the fallen Newcastle side. They've snapped up defender David Edgar from Newcastle on a four-year deal.

1.54pm: More Spanish reports, but this time Barcelona are involved. Valencia striker David Villa is reportedly edging closer to a Barcelona move after meeting with Camp Nou sporting director Txiki Begiristain. We're awaiting some denials and retractions...

12.59pm: New Ajax coach Martin Jol has failed in an attempt to persuade AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf to return to the club. Good thing too given that the Amersterdam club have a history of blooding their youth products and Clarence is 33. Maybe they could get him in as a coach?

12.45pm: Lyon claim they haven't agreed anything with Madrid, so we'll have to wait and see how this develops. They have receieved a big bid from someone though.

12.34pm: A Benin international is being lined up by Chelsea. Paris Saint Germain ace Stephane Sessegnon claims he's been in contact with various English clubs and the Blues are one who were lucky enough to get a name-check.

12.25pm: Now Benzema's agent is claiming that the Madrid deal has been agreed and told French radio that only personal terms and a medical need to be completed to see the move go through. Turns out sometimes you can believe what you read..

11.58am: Apparently Blackburn are keen to splash some of the cash they picked up for Roque Santa Cruz and are tracking Chelsea youngster Franco Di Santo. Toulouse hitman Andre-Pierre Gignac, 23, is also on the radar but is also being watched by Manchester United.

11.37am: Surprise, surprise, Jermaine Pennant is unsure where his future lies. England or Spain appears to be the option and the man who turned down Real Madrid must be kicking himself now, as he'll probably end up somewhere like Celta Vigo.

11.34am: William Gallas says he'll stay at Arsenal next season after Inter Milan reportedly showed some interest in taking him to Italy. The sulky Frenchman will have to get used to competition for places if he does stick around as the Gunners are reportedly tracking Serdar Tasci and Sebastien Bassong.

11.17am: Michael Chopra [Remember him? The new Alan Shearer!] has signed for Cardiff in a club record £3m deal. The club won't get all the cash at once though as the Sunderland Echo think it'll be £500,000 up front and £2.5m in installments.

11.13am: Reports are coming in from Spain that Karim Benzema has already signed for Real Madrid in a deal worth 35m euros. The French striker is in both AS and Marca , with a deal agreed; but now the clubs are just waiting for the player himself to give the green light to it.

11.09am: Mark Hughes has said he would be very interested in signing Carlos Tevez and Samuel Eto'o. The City boss has quite a few strikers backing up at Eastlands now, but really wants a few who are better than Ched Evans.

10.50am: Get out while you still can! Andrew Surman has brought some much needed cash to Southampton - in the region of £1m - as he's signed for Wolves.

10.28am: Apparently Mikael Silvestre is being lined up for a move to France now that Arsenal have strengthened their defence. Laurent Blanc's Bordeaux is the club.

10.16am: It's breaking. It's news. But wait, it's just that fact that Cristiano Ronaldo has completed his move to Real Madrid for £80m. You might be able to hear the huge sigh of relief from journos around the country.

9.41am: Bolton have confirmed the signing of Sean Davis on a free transfer from Portsmouth, so they have now added to their 'combative midfielder' numbers - although they have just released five 'first-team' players from their squad in the form of: Glen Little, Lauren, Noe Pamarot, Djimi Traore and Jerome Thomas.

9.39am: Dynamo Kiev are pretty keen to sign Andriy Shevchenko, although he'll probably fancy coming back to Chelsea now that Carlo Ancelotti is there.

9.30am: Liverpool winger Sebastian Leto has left Anfield to join Greek outfit Panathinaikos. What a loss for Rafa Benitez.

9.05am: Nemanja Vidic has revealed he has had offers from AC Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid, but it's his wife that wants to leave, not him.

8.30am: Birmingham are chasing Spurs left-back Gareth Bale - providing that he actually recovers from the injuries that have caused him problems during his time at White Hart Lane.
