On The Move
Posted by Jon Carter on 06/13/2009

With all the week's transfer news surrounding Real Madrid, it is something of a refreshing change for something other than the news from the Bernabeu to be floating around.

In fact, it comes from the Nou Camp and surrounds the future of Samuel Eto'o. The Cameroon striker has been in great form this season but nearly left Barcelona last summer and could be on the verge of an exit.

The Times have obviously been watching Cristiano Ronaldo playing his lone role up front too much as they think that Eto'o will replace the Portuguese at Old Trafford.

The Daily Mirror won't hear of it though. They reckon that Eto'o is far more likely to head over to Anfield, but only if the Reds decide to send a Javier Mascherano shaped package to Spain in return. It seems unlikely that Rafa Benitez would want to part with one of his prized possessions to reinforce his strikeforce with Eto'o, but the prospect of seeing the Cameroonian and Fernando Torres playing together is enough to get anyone excited.

Liverpool are definately in for a few new signings this summer, but the Daily Mail think Glen Johnson will be the first. Having had trouble at right-back for a while now, the Reds' addition of Portsmouth's England international could be just the ticket. But surely not for over £12m.

Real Madrid can't keep their hands out of their pockets, so might just help move the Johnson deal along by throwing £8m at Alvaro Arbeloa. A defender? Signing for Madrid? Perish the thought.

Oh, and just to complete the Anfield-Bernabeu transfer business for the decade, Rafa might just decide that he wants a piece of Madrid's on loan striker Alvaro Negredo - just because he likes the name. The Daily Mirror reckon Valencia could also be keen, but £6m might just buy Rafa the striker he needs to compliment Torres.

Speaking of Valencia, Antonio is still waiting for his move to Man Utd. The Guardian think Wigan's wideman will move for around £17m once Ronaldo seals his £80m move to Madrid and he's been tasked with filling Ronaldo's void. Ouch.

David Beckham is a little annoyed everyone is talking about Ronnie as he was rather keen to be the only former United winger to have made the move to Madrid, but now he fancies Tottenham. The Daily Star say that Becks wants a move back to the Premier League and old 'Arry is on red alert because David Bentley just isn't cutting the mustard.

Redknapp always has an eye for a bargain though, and while Becks certainly isn't this (not on his wages), a double deal for Toulouse midfielders Moussa Sissoko and Etienne Capoue could be.

And finally, it's ok, Ronaldo IS worth £80m. The Sun have the news that FIFA president Sepp Blatter has put his seal of approval on the deal and, at the same time, reinforced the world's view that he should really step down soon. Just because one billionaire splashes a bit of cash around in Spain, Sepp, doesn't mean football's finances are ''fine''.

Ronaldo never disserved that offer, its too much for him, may be 70-50 pounds. atlist Messe he`s a class compared to Ronaldo.

Transfers should be controlled when it comes to spending.

Thanks

Can somebody tell Arsene Wenger to plead with Arsenal's board to give him money to get 'real' players?!..

Ronaldo is worth forty million pounds not to talk of eighty million pound.frm Adamawa state,Nigeria

Blatter's got cotton wool for brains if he thinks throwing around 80 million quid for a spoilt brat is "okay". Who does he think he is? And Real, well...let's not even start.

david beckham has to coem to chelsea n so does my cousin ashley young!

Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid ???? Better Madrid buy Nemenja Vidic for the center back, Ashley Cole for left back, David Silva and David Villa for the attacking options plus the current squad lead by the excellent Arjen Robben, Klaas Jan Hunteelar, Rafael Van De Vaart. Manchester United are really genius in buying players. Did ever Real Madrid sell a player in the value that Man U selling or as Arsenal selling ?
Real Madrid PLEASE OBSERVE OTHER TEAMS OF HOW THEY INVEST IN PLAYERS!!!! TQ

Sure is Mr. Platini is happy as long as the buying doesn't comes from the English Premier League. I just wonder how would he react if one of the english club would spend half of 80m in one player?

Arsene wenger should go for solid defender's and a creative midfielder that can talk/hold on to the ball and a striker to balance his team,

isn't it at perez's galcticos time, madrid won uefa & spanish league and on top of all became the firt RICHEST club in the world? so stop looking on the money they spent only while u dont know how much they get fromm tickets revenues, jerseys, sponsorships.its bussiness people, invest big u get big also

I do think Fiorentino Peres is a business man and he certainly knows what he wants.Investing in players like kaka,Ronaldo,David villa, Riberi and a host of others still to complete the galacticos list is not a bad idea. But Madrid should first focus on the defensive players and HArd core midfielders like Xavi Alonso and essien of chelsea, Vidic.I am a die heart madrid fan from cameroon.

i dont think Ronaldo is worth the money that real spent on him.i just hope he delivers at madrid because while he was at Man U, the squad was centered around him but at madrid, things wont be the same.

I just can't believe the "soccer crazy world". Too much speculative buying in the soccer market. Where are we heading if two players can be bought at a fee worth the whole Club in the same league!!!!!!!

Long live Giant clubs!!!!!!!!
