Will they? Won’t they? Who knows! Does anyone care? In what is fast becoming the summer’s most annoying transfer story, Bayern Munich have now denied reports that they are ready to cash in on Franck Ribery.

Just hours after quotes from club president Franz Beckenbauer were translated into English and splashed across the world, Bayern insisted that the words attributed to the Kaiser "do not reflect the truth".

Beckenbauer was quoted in Sport Bild magazine saying: "We discussed the issue at our last board meeting and we all agreed that, if he really wants to leave, then we will deal with the issue."

But that’s not true, apparently. So, now your guess is as good as ours.

Could it be that after admitting they were fighting a losing battle to keep the 26-year-old they realised they would lose their bargaining power and with it the chance of agreeing a Euros1234bn deal and so quickly covered their tracks?

Moving on: Hans Robben, father of Real Madrid’s Arjen insists that his son is absolutely not joining Tottenham.

"We don't talk with Tottenham. At the moment we don't talk with any club. Of course, things can change overnight, but one thing is sure: Arjen will certainly not join Tottenham." Fair enough, Hans - calm down, it's just a transfer rumour.

Back in the real, if slightly dull, world Wolves have signed Marcus Hahnemann on a free transfer from Reading.

The 37-year-old stopper has been bought to add some experience to the newly promoted Premier League club's defence and will be expected to mentor the club’s other goalkeepers Wayne Hennessey and Carl Ikeme.

So watch out for fetching new facial hair in the coming season at Molyneux .

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan is never short of a few choice words and today the man on the receiving end was Michael Owen.

Whelan insisted that Wigan weren't interested in signing the striker. He could have left it at that, but instead decided to have a pop: Whelan said: "We wouldn't be interested in him anyway. His wages are too expensive, for one thing, and, for another, you have to ask whether he still has the urge, the bottle and the drive."

And finally Stoke manager Tony Pulis has dismissed reports linking goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen with Bayern Munich as "nonsense''. And, quite frankly, we believe him.
