On The Move
Posted by Phil Holland on 06/24/2009

An intriguing day of transfer news ended with quotes from Chelsea target, Alexandre 'the Duck' Pato, insisting that he is happy at AC Milan.

With Carlo Ancelotti installed at Stamford Bridge many thought the floodgates would open and Chelsea would land some exciting big name players, and Pato was high up the list.

Now, deals could yet be done - the summer is still young - but Pato's words, which distance him from a reunion with his former manager, come after efforts to buy David Villa and Carlos Tevez failed to come to fruition.

Elsewhere, Greece is most definitely the word as Matt Derbyshire completed his permanent move to Olympiacos and Djibril Cisse closed in on a move to Panathinaikos.

Derbyshire moved to the Greek cup winners on loan in January and netted an impressive eight goals in 11 appearances, convincing Olympiacos to give Blackburn £3m for the 23-year-old striker

Cisse, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland, where he scored 10 goals in 35 games, is expected to complete a medical in Greece on Thursday after in Panathinaikos agreed a fee with Marseille.

The wibble surrounding Franck Ribery continues with his agent revealing that his client would like to leave Bayern Munich and sign for Real Madrid.

That might not sound like news because all we've heard about the French playmaker in recent weeks, but it actually represents a development!

What else? Well, Atletico Madrid have moved to quash speculation over the future of Sergio Aguero after Manchester United were linked with a 60m Euro bid for the Argentina star.

The 21-year-old, whose fiancée Giannina is the daughter of Diego Maradona, impressed last term and is on the wanted list of several European clubs, much to Atletico's chagrin.

And finally, Stoke have emerged as a rival to Hull for Michael Owen's signature - there's a line I never thought I'd write!

In fairness Stoke boss Tony Pulis admits Owen might not be keen on a move to Potteries, but beggars can't be choosers.

Chelsea arenot going to get anyone if they dont open up their pocketbook. They need to after available guys like Van Der Vaart, Higuaín, Sneijder, van Persie, Adebayor, Benzema. Chelsea need to act now or they will end up like last summer transfer season where they didnt get any good transfers. -rbp
