On The Move
Posted by Jon Carter on 06/18/2009

On a day when nothing much has happened transfer-wise, the various media outlets across the UK have gone a little European for their fix of gossip.

David Villa is still top of the tree given that Kaka is all quiet and Ronaldo's deal is just ''vulgar''. The Spanish striker has apparently told his agent who he wants to sign for and now everyone is speculating that that is Real Madrid.. without anyone actually knowing.

Madrid meanwhile are rather keen to kick out a load of top stars to make room for their new additions, but have denied sending out a fax to various clubs detailing the players they would be willing to sell. Even if it seems quite a good idea.

Away from Spain, the Italian game is losing players by the second, but Andrea Pirlo might not be the next one to leave. Everyone thinks he probably should join Chelsea, who even (quite kindly) managed to install his old Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti to make the transition nice and easy. However, the Italian midfielder says he hasn't made any of the comments attributed to him, although wouldn't rule out a switch to London. Perhaps.

On the other side of the Milan midfield is Gennaro Gattuso, whose agent insists his client is happy at the San Siro and has had no contact from Chelsea either. With Alex Pato also denying he wants a move to Stamford Bridge, maybe the Blues will have better luck trying to snap up Andrei Shevchenko- again.

One man NOT arriving at Milan is Aly Cissokho, who has been having teething problems [literally] in his £15m move. The French left-back failed a medical due to trouble with his choppers and even though the Rossoneri tried to get him on loan, the move fell through.

The club are, of course, still keen to bring the average age of their defence to below 35 so they might be linked for a fair few teenagers before the end of the transfer window.

Ignoring the future of Zlatan Ibrahimovic for one second, Julio Baptista is apparently quite happy to stay at Roma. Probably handy given that not many clubs are interested in a man once labelled 'The Beast'.

In France news, Portsmouth defender Noe Pamarot is set to make an announcement on his future amid reports that he is set to sign for St Etienne; but Karim Benzema could be the one to leave Ligue 1 after Lyon chief Jean-Michel Aulas claimed that his star player could be tempted into moving.

Germany has some more Franck Ribery nonsense, will he, won't he? And even Luca Toni looks like he'll stay; while over in Holland, Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen claims he will undergo a medical at Arsenal on Friday.

Even Birmingham has something of a European link today as Alex McLeish has confirmed he has made an enquiry about Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson. Presumably with a clause inserted in his contract claiming he can't make secret 'V' signs at him from the dugout.

And finally, to England. Poor old Roque Santa Cruz admits there is a possibility no club will trigger his buy-out clause this summer, as no-one has stumped up the £20m needed for his services. Perhaps he should try for a transfer to Europe...
