On The Move
Posted by Jon Carter on 02/01/2009

The talk of the day is all about Robbie Keane as his future at Liverpool looks dead. Could another former Spurs player be heading back to White Hart Lane before Monday?

The Mail on Sunday, and almost everyone else, have picked up on the fact that Keane did not make the 18-man squad against Chelsea, and therefore he's angling for a move. The Reds paid £20.3m for him last summer, and may now buy him back for just £15m.

One thing's for sure: Rafa Benitez doesn't know what's going on. Or does he?

With Keane on the verge of an exit, Tottenham's transfer machine has gone into overdrive. Already linked with a host of players due to Jermain Defoe's injury and their chronic inability to defend, Spurs could do worse than snapping up Roqie Santa Cruz from Blackburn.

The Rovers man clearly wants out of Ewood, but the Daily Star think he'd rather go to Man City, even though the clubs can't agree on a fee. £18m should be enough for a striker who has only had one good season, but Sam Allardyce is holding out for the cost of relegation - £40m. So don't hold your breath.

City have been pretty quite of late, not really throwing their money around after the Kaka debacle, so expect something to happen on this front before Monday. Our bet is that Roque eventually makes his move, for a vastly inflated price, and Sky Sports think that misfit Jo could be on his way out - on loan to Everton.

The News of the World
also have a player exiting City, the lover of all cards red, Richard Dunne, who is apparently being lined up by Ricky Sbragia in a £5m move to Sunderland. Although they might have got him confused with Tal Ben Haim, who Sky Sports say have is almost certainly, definately going to Wearside. Unless he goes to Blackburn.

The Daily Star, though, think it's Micah Richards who will leave and go off to join Emile Heskey at Villa. For £7m you'd think someone else would be interested.

Djibril Cisse, however, is annoyed that all his mates have left (that's El Hadji Diouf and Pascal Chimbonda) and even though Kenwyne Jones has agreed to be his dance partner for the next four years, he might still be eyeing a move in the summer.

Hull have popped their heads round the corner to enquire about Darren Bent, and presumably Harry Redknapp is happy listen to them. The News of the World says the misfiring striker could head to the KC, but Spurs just don't want to let him go on loan and poor old Hull have already spent their life savings on a new set of fishing rods for Jimmy Bullard.

Meanwhile, Joe Kinnear said that Shay Given was on the treatment table after being left out of the City game last week. And he probably was, but it was City's table he was on, as he's now having a medical at Eastlands ahead of an £8m move.

It's ok though, because the Mail on Sunday have Newcastle linked with a £2m bid for Rangers' Barry Ferguson (upping their combative midfielder count to five) and Steve Harper says he's happy at St James's. He bloomin' well should be now he has a clear run at the #1 jersey!

Sean Davis has noticed that Portsmouth are on a bit of a slide at the moment and doesn't really like it very much. On the other he saw how Bolton dismantled Tottenham at the weekend and Sky Sports think he might be able to wear Kevin Nolan's boots in the middle of the Reebok midfield. Size 11 Sean, and try and score some goals as well.

The Sunday Express
think he might cost in the region of £3m, which would see him 3/4 the man that Nolan was when he went to Newcastle.

The Independent on Sunday would just love to see 37-year-old former Sweden international Henrik Larsson at West Ham. He is a free agent, but quite how he feels about playing alongside Carlton Cole (however much Juve might be interested in him) remains to be seen.

And last but not least, despite showing no interest in the transfer window, other than to let poor old Wayne Bridge find a home, Chelsea are going to swap Didier Drogba for Robinho say the News of the World. Although both players will be locked in a room together until they decide who gets paid the most. Winner takes all.

Rafa must be joking and will not be winning anything again this time round because of his inability to mould good players into great players. He just cannot expect Keane to work wonders in 6 months and yet he does not even get enough games.
