On The Move

As ever this month, there is only one place to start when it comes to transfer tittle tattle. Manchester City fans look away now, your club is back in the stocks with the rest of football getting ready to throw rotten tomatoes.

Kaka has turned down the Citizens (Source: everyone). Why? The Daily Star say City were not allowed to talk to the player, a line backed up by grandiosely titled executive chairman Garry Cook, ever the smooth operator, who told Sky Sports, that Milan had "bottled it", which will be a lot of use when it comes to pulling off his latest megadeal.

Word to the wise, Gaz, if you're going to lose out on players, slagging them off after will mean that other clubs will probably be cautious about dealing with you. That could cost more money; though as that seems to be no object then as you were. Just don't expect the elite to welcome your approaches to their players.

Most other media, including The Guardian and The Sun, say Kaka's back turned as soon as he saw the Milan fans reaction to his leaving of Lombardy. The Daily Mail says that the Brazilian was never actually made a wages offer by Cook and co and that his people felt they were dealing with rank amateurs. One source said: "They acted as if this was just a game." City deny the claims.

Not only that but now Robinho has decided to quit a training camp in Tenerife for reasons yet unknown. It seems his time at City may already be drawing to a close.

And, piling on the agony is the fact that their showy offer for Kaka has forced the price up for their other targets. Thought £14m for Craig Bellamy was excessive, £15m for Dutch engine-room operator Nigel De Jong looked pricey? Try £40m for Roque Santa Cruz from Rovers, as has widely been reported in the English media.

The best laid plans are looking Sheikh-y....

Apologies for that, on with the rest of the rumours. Arshavin corner has City joining the chase after Dick Advocaat said he thought the playmaker would be leaving Zenit St Petersburg. The Times says Arsenal still lead the chase. Nicklas Bendtner, Mr Popular himself, could be offloaded to pay for that deal, say The Daily Express.

Shay Given may be arriving at Eastlands if you read The Sun and the Star; which may not take you too long. Newcastle meanwhile have targeted a trio from the French league - The Guardian have Batefembi Gomis, Stephan Mbia and John Arne Riise as their targets.

Portsmouth boss Tony Adams seems to be stuck between flogging his best men and looking for cheaper replacements. Juventus' Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen is the man to replace Lassana Diarra, say The Sun while The Independent say Tony is still eager to convince Jermaine Pennant to Fratton Park.

How about Spurs? The hangdog features of Harry Redknapp have been sinking further down his fizzog of late. What better to lift his spirits and his sagging dewlaps than a bit of wheeling and dealing? He waits on Wilson Palacios of Wigan (various) though funding could be a problem. Predecessor Martin Jol may be able to provide some of the folding if he buys similarly rotund midfield man Tom Huddlestone for Hamburg. They could soon be enjoying generous helpings of German sausage together if the Daily Mail is to be believed. Anyway, The Independent say that the Palacios deal is in place.

Wigan meanwhile, may lose another of their crown jewels if The Daily Telegraph's flier on Manchester United signing Antonio Valencia is to be believed. After the roasting Valencia handed out last week to John O'Shea, it could be relief in the utility man's household and some worries at Nani's house. Though Chelsea and Real Madrid are both in the mix too.

The Mail also have United being interested in French wonderkid Yven Moyo from Sochaux, a young man they have supposedly had scouts watching for some time.

United are taking a back seat in their hometown at the moment. City, the gift that just keeps on giving, are entertaining us all.

Mancity just think MONEY could buy the tittle..same as CHELSEA, few years back they still sepnd big amount of money but will not last longer....

is it just me or are man City ruining the whole transfer market by paying or offering silly prices for average players. Mark Hughes is certain to be fired for a bigger name manager by the summer, so is he just waiting for a big pay-off? He has no control over anything else.

Better Man City keep their cash rather than buy an average player... Or... Hire "The Special One"..
Mr Mourinho....

man city should spend their money on world class coach, not middle class coach who spend the money on worthless player

I can't believe Lukas Podolski is signing for Cologne. Has there ever been a player better suited for the English game then Podolski? Why was his name not even mentioned with the likes of Man City, Newcastle, Blackburn, Tottenham, Villa, or even a top club like Liverpool or Arsenal. I'm sure City would pay 75 mil for his services and Arsenal would pay 7.

Well I'll be damned if City hijack the Arshavin deal. The guy's a surity to come to the red half of North London. Well... ?

With the falling through of the Kaka deal there are those who think that the Eastlanders may dangle a carrot before the Russian but they've just signed Craig Bellamy. How much more intense and double-hard quality do they need?

There's no doubt a deal for Arshavin is close and even if City come in does the player want to join a club engaged in a relegation battle? A team rightly scorned for their ridiculous attempt to sign a player way too good for them and way out of their reach? If he does there's not much we can do about that but it'd say plenty about the character of Arshavin.

Hey Chris,
On behalf of the Arsenal faithful, why, I wonder would you take a dig at us ? Or at our financial capability for that matter.
I'm pretty sure we could muster up more than 7 million for Lukas. It does make me wonder if you're a Hull City fan.
Apologies from the owner of the world's only owner of diamond-encrusted boots.

Yours faithfully,
Cinderella

Hahahahhaha
That's the best laugh I've had in days
Man City would pay 75 million and Arsenal would pay 7
lol
Moving on, I am really disgusted with Arsenal's transfer policies and think Arshavin would have been a good transfer for them, but Arsene wenger is simply laughable in the transfer market
Being a Real Madrid fan, I'm disappointed that Man Utd may get Valencia. He would have been a wonderful player for us.
Also am glad that Bendtner may be offloaded. He is useless.

I don't think it's fair that everyone is taking a shot at Man.City because the Kaka transfer didn't go through.
It was understood when the Arab group bought in that they wanted to spend the money to provide City with a top team. They backed this up by grabbing Robinho under the nose of Chelsea and they will continue to pay for top players for the team. It is logical that the very best players will have a loyalty to their current clubs that it will be a process to buid the squad. But I for one hope Gary Cook isn't put off and that he continues to chase top names. Eventually the world will get out and City will build an exciting team.

Mancity are being fools by trying to buy their way in first. Podalski would fit perfectly on that team alongside Robinhio

Mike, why are you plagiarising Arseblog? Or are you the Blogger?

100% agree, I don't understand why no ENglish clubs have gone in for him.

OK Man U went for berbatov instead, he wouldnt fit at Chelsea and Arsenal probably think he is too old to sign, but there are a host of otehr clubs who would fit brilliantly.

Imagine him up front with Torres at Liverpool, two strong wuick and cool finishers would scae the life out of defences. Spus deperately need a guy up front who can hold up the ball and be strong. Man City have been offeirng silly money for Santa Cruz when Podolski is better all round. Villa are looking at Heskey when for the same money they could have got Lukas?
