Manchester City are set to hijack Arsenal's deal for Andrei Arshavin after agreeing an £18million deal with Zenit St Petersburg, according to the Sunday Mirror. The 27-year-old striker flew into London last week amid speculation he was poised to join the Gunners; but City have stormed into pole position.

Meanwhile, the Mail on Sunday claim that Arsenal are poised to increase their bid for Arshavin to £12million after Zenit rejected their initial £10 million offer.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has made Olympique Lyon striker Karim Benzema his main summer transfer target, according to the News of the World. And United's pursuit of the 21-year-old Frenchman means the end of Carlos Tevez at Old Trafford.

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make a £10million swoop for Wigan Athletic midfield star Wilson Palacios, reports The People. Harry Redknapp's bid for the Honduran has left Latics manager Steve Bruce fearing his side could be torn apart.

The Daily Star Sunday say Newcastle United have angrily rejected a 'laughable' £3million bid from mega-rich Manchester City for wantaway goalkeeper Shay Given. A Toon spokesman said: "We received a bid for Shay in writing from Manchester City and we dismissed it out of hand."

Everton could face competition from Portsmouth for Saviola, as boss Tony Adams looks to replace Jermain Defoe, according to the Sunday Telegraph. Apparently Real Madrid are amenable to sending the 27-year-old Argentina striker out on loan on a short-term deal.

The Sunday Times report that only two months after the Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy said there was no cash for new signings, his manager Harry Redknapp has persuaded him to dig deep and vowed to keep on spending.

The Observer claims that a number of Chelsea's young players have been made available for transfer and loan as the club begin a clear-out of their underperforming youth ranks.

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler is wanted by Australian A-League side North Queensland Fury, reports the Independent on Sunday.

Mancity is crazy. I mean Arsharvin's a great player. (Anyone who disagrees hasn't watched Euro 08), but they should start to spend less money. And why fergie is getting rid of Teves is beyond me. hes a very good player

The last three weeks have shown that we need more attack on that right side, Eboue is not cutting it, we are not desperate for Arshavin, but I think he would fit in good. Hes not worth over 15 mil. Bendtner looked good but I dont think we would have to move to a 4 3 3 formation. That would weaken Nasri's effectiveness. So it would be easier to just pick up Arshavin. Nigel De Jong would make a good DM for Arsenal as well

Man City should work and try to look for other players not the ones Wenger has shown interest on. You can see that the gap is being closed gradually. We are definitely on the rise now.

This is very distasteful now that the likes of Kaka have rejected Man city they are going after our players they even wanted to sign Fabregas how desparate is that. For Man city to become a force they must nurture their own youngsters to fill tha gaps in the first team. For example Fabregas played for us when he was just around 18 years of age now look how good he is. They should buy a new youth development coach and start to take risks, ,look at the likes of Ramsey, Wilkshire and Walcott and their contribution to our club. Man city leave Arshavin alone he has too much class to play for you guys. Get to the Champions league more consistently then you might have a chance to get the big boys.

clearly dont know wot ur talkin about man city have a great youth policy and one of the most if not most successful youth teams in the country, whereas most of arsenal youngsters are bought from other clubs (Aaron Ramsey- Cardiff) or from abroad (Fabregas).
