Our inaugural transfer rumour mill starts with Manchester City, where else?
Having signed Wayne Bridge from Chelsea on Sunday City boss Mark Hughes declared on Monday that he wanted to bring in five more signings during the January transfer window and that gave Tuesday's newspapers licence to run riot with speculation.
The Sun claims that the Citizens have made a £24 million bid for Barcelona's 25-year-old midfielder Yaya Toure and will double his wages to lure him to Eastlands. However, The Daily Star report that it is actually Arsenal defender Kolo Toure, not Yaya, they want... along with Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz, West Ham United striker Craig Bellamy and Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror claim that City have already offered West Ham United midfielder Scott Parker £100,000 a week to bring him to Manchester.
As you may have noticed that is six new faces and not the five stipulated by Hughes. So close your eyes, stab at the page with your finger and rule out whichever player is nearest your digit.
Arsenal target Andrei Arshavin is threatening to buy himself out of his contract at Zenit St Petersburg or go on strike to secure his dream move to England, according to the Daily Express. But if manager Arsene Wenger baulks at the £20million asking price he can always turn to Portsmouth midfielder Niko Kranjcar and Everton's Mikel Arteta, as reported in The Sun. The Gunners have also offered striker Nicklas Bendtner and £5 million in cash to bring former Arsenal defender Matthew Upson back to the club from West Ham.
Manchester United's on loan striker Carlos Tevez has revealed his desire to play for Real Madrid, according to the The Sun. And the Daily Mirror agrees, although they do throw in the fact that he has also alerted Manchester City of his availability for good measure.
Liverpool are set to deal with AC Milan. The Reds will rebuff their approach for Andrea Dossena and an £8.5m offer for centre-back Daniel Agger (Daily Star) but will allow Milan to sign their one-time Real Madrid target Jermaine Pennant (The Sun).
Today's transfer-triangle between Middlesbrough, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur goes something like this: Spurs will make an improved bid of £12 million for Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing (The Independent). Boro will also sell winger Gary O'Neil to Portsmouth (Daily Mirror) and Pompey will sell striker Jermaine Defoe to Tottenham for £15 million.
Tottenham will also battle with Liverpool to sign England full-back Glen Johnson from Portsmouth (Daily Star), who in turn will fight West Ham for the signature of £300,000-rated Norwegian defender Stefan Strandberg while simultaneously chasing £5 million-rated Nigerian midfielder Christian Obodo (The Sun). Meanwhile, Middlesbrough will bolster their depleted ranks with £5 million Celtic star Aiden McGeady (Daily Mail).
Wigan boss Steve Bruce might regret comparing midfielder Antonio Valencia to Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo as it seems every newspaper has linked the Ecuador international with a £15 million move to Real Madrid, Liverpool or Tottenham.
