Rafa Benitez will extend his vicious war with Sir Alex Ferguson into the transfer market as Liverpool go head to head with Manchester United in a battle to sign Brazilian defender Anderson, claims The Sun. Benitez has been tracking the Fluminense centre-half for months but Ferguson could swoop with a £3million bid.
Manchester City have sent chief executive Gary Cook and chief operating officer Paul Aldridge to Italy to broker a world record breaking deal for AC Milan star Kaka, according to the Daily Express. It is understood City are prepared to wait until the summer to land the Brazilian if they can persuade the Serie A club to part with him - but they want to do business now.
The Times report that City have set their sights a little closer to home and are expected to conclude a £12 million deal with West Ham United for striker Craig Bellamy.
However, The Guardian claim that the Hammers don't want to sell any of their star players and have rejected an improved £9.2 million bid from City for Wales captain Bellamy and continue to insist that he and Scott Parker, another City target, are not for sale.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is eager to maintain his pursuit of Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing despite the Teesside club's reluctance to sell, report the Daily Mirror. Redknapp is now willing to include left-back Gareth Bale in any deal.
And Tottenham are also keen to sign Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones as they seek to recruit an imposing target man, according to the Daily Telegraph. But the Black Cats are understood to be unwilling to sell to a club they regard as relegation rivals.
Redknapp is keeping very busy in transfer market and is also in for highly-rated Wigan Athletic midfielder Wilson Palacios. The Independent report that Tottenham would prefer to do a player swap, rather than spend cash, and Jermaine Jenas has been named as a potential makeweight.
Newcastle United midfielder Geremi has emerged as a target for Turkish club Besiktas, according to the Daily Mail. But FC Porto anchor man Raul Meireles may be making a £4million switch to St James' Park.
Newcastle are also interested in Palermo midfielder Mark Bresciano say the Daily Telegraph. However the Toon face competition from Fulham, Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers.
And finally, Real Madrid have agreed yet another deal with Cristiano Ronaldo's agent for the newly crowned FIFA World Player of the Year, according to Spanish sports daily AS.
