On The Move
Posted by Phil Holland on 01/27/2009

Sporting Lisbon's highly-rated Miguel Veloso has previously been linked with a move to Arsenal and Manchester United, so imagine his disappointment when Bolton Wanderers emerged as the favourites to sign him.

The defensive midfielder, who understandably insists he is happy where he is, thank you very much, is subject to the covetous attentions of Bolton boss Gary Megson who is ready to spend £12m on the 22-year-old.

But there could be hope for Veloso with The Sun reporting that the player's agent claims Manchester City are also keen.

The cynical observer could argue that an agent could increase the asking price for his player by linking him with the world’s richest club. But there are no cynical observers here.

Still with City and The Sun, Richard Dunne has insisted that despite his erratic form and speculation over his future, he has no intention of leaving the club. Which will come as a disappointment to City fans, many of who feel the 29-year-old’s best days are behind him.

Following on from reports that Manchester City are finally about to get goalkeeper Shay Given his Newcastle understudy, Steve Harper has signed a new deal at the club; coincidence?

Elsewhere, David Beckham’s love affair with the MLS appears set to come to a heartbreaking end.

So taken with Beckham are AC Milan that they are, according to The Guardian, set to open negotiations with his agents to discuss how best to get the player out of his contract with Los Angeles Galaxy and sign him on a permanent deal.

And finally, Tottenham’s hopes of signing Kenwyne Jones from Sunderland appear dead in the water after the Trinidad & Tobabgo striker agreed a new four-and-a-half deal.

The Telegraph say that Spurs were ready to offer £16m plus Darren Bent for Jones, who joined Black Cats for £6m in August 2007.

Arsenal seriously need to step their game up in the transfer market. The money they're bickering over with Arshavin and Zenit is probably equal to the amount they'll lose by missing out on the Champions League by not strengthening their squad! Just pay that sheisty Russian his money and get on with it. Arshavin probably wants more then a two year deal though and he's already 27 years old and Arsenal have that ridiculous policy of not signing players over 30 to more then 1 year contracts. Imagine that midfield when everyone's healthy, Fabregas and Arshavin in the middle, Rosicky and Nasri out wide with Adebayor and RVP up top. That's a Champions League front 6 is ever there was one. A bit weak but strength has never been Arsenal's game.
