Overall league performance:
P38 W13 D15 L10 F53 A51 PTS 54
With the points and goal difference achieved we would have finished in 8th place in last season's Premier League (below Everton on GD)
All league games win ratio: 34%
Not great, but when you consider the improvement in this season's league win ratio since the summers transfer dealings:
This season league games win ratio: 44% - significantly better.
When you include all cup games, Pardew's overall win ratio is 36%
In summary, Pardew is doing a solid job. He faced the daunting task of replacing fan favourite Chris Hughton in very controversial circumstances. Despite this he has managed to maintain the great team spirit implemented by his predecessor. He (and the board) have shipped out a lot of very popular players, but his (and Carr's) replacements have, in the main, been excellent. The season-on-season improvement in win % tells me that if Ashley spends in January we could see even greater progress.
The draw vs Swansea was disappointing, as was the performance vs Norwich, but this is a thin squad and if bolstered, the future could be very bright and we are in a great position to claim a top 7 finish and a decent FA cup run this season.
I've also taken a look at how our long list of managers have fared in the Premier League era:
1. Kevin Keegan P273 Win ratio: 52% (nb a number of these games were pre PL and in the old Second Division
2. Chris Hughton P74 Win ratio: 53% (Again, the majority of these games were played in the second tier)
3. Sir Bobby Robson P255 Win ratio: 47% (Excellent - all top flight games as well as Champions League fixtures too)
4. Glenn Roeder P73 Win ratio: 45%
5. Graeme Souness P83 Win ratio: 43%
6. Kenny Dalglish P78 Win ratio: 38%
7. Alan Pardew P42 Win ratio: 36%
8. Ruud Gullit P52 Win ratio: 35%
9. Fat Sam Allardyce P24 Win ratio: 33%
10. Joe Kinnear P26 Win ratio: 19%
I only include the above out of interest - I don't think we can read too much into the figures as several of the managers worked in very different conditions to Alan Pardew.
Personally I have warmed to Pardew and I am looking forward to watching how we progress under his leadership for a long time to come (I hope) HTL
