Manchester United
Posted by Mark Payne on 06/07/2009

What we have seen at Old Trafford this year, and all around the world, was not really the United we have come to know and love. With the exception of Macheda’s goals I can think of very few moments from the past season when I sat on my chair and thought “this is United, this is why I follow”.

spilt-milk-375-x-575.jpg
We had the look of a dogged team, there were a few flashes of extravagance, mainly from Ronaldo, but nowhere near enough bravado to stand comparison to the heroes of yesteryear. I felt at times this United team was a can of spam compared to the Sunday roasts we have been raised on. It is churlish to complain of course when you are winning trophies, but something is missing.

In particular with the Carling Cup and the Club World Cup, it was almost as if we were collecting them rather than winning them. The spending in recent seasons has put our squad out of sight of even Chelsea in the quest to challenge for honours but there is something amiss in team spirit.

It is a United tradition, stretcing way back to the days of Billy Meredith, to have at the core of the side a maverick. A divinely gifted player who riles the opposition, outclasses them and has a bond with the supporters borne of having a “roll-your-sleeves-up” attitude and a touch of arrogance.

Although not arrogant in any way, Robson’s sleeves were so far rolled up they met in the middle and the guy would have died for the shirt. Cantona and latterly Keane were heirs to Meredith’s tralblazing. During the sixties Denis Law’s attitude to authority made Marlon Brando look like a convent nun.

Where is that player now? We have the supremely gifted Ronaldo, but he seems to wind us up as much as the opposition, although he always, always wins me over with his football. Rooney is the closest I suppose but the x-factor is not quite there. Tevez’s dispute with the club breaks my heart as he could be the true talisman of the team.

What is without question is that we currently lack a character, somebody mildly psychotic, to fire them up in the heat of battle. We were slaughtered in Rome, absolutely murdered and I couldn’t see anywhere on the park where it was going to turn around. How I longed to see Norman Whiteside trot on, a la Anfield 88, and start making things even.

He is not there, in fact, there are no Big Norms at the moment. The problem, I think, is because we are getting the players so young now they are indoctrinated into the United mythology before maverick tendencies can develop.

I would suggest we missed a trick here. If Ballack had come he would have been a hero for us, nobody really likes him but he is brilliant- a perfect fit for United, shame he didn’t. Looking around world football I cannot see that attitude too obviously anywhere. It is that attitude that I crave to see again on the pitch. For all of the merits of the current heroes, there is something slightly lacking in charisma.

Nonetheless, our shortcomings are far less yawning than those of our rivals and major surgery is not required over the summer months. I do, however, expect changes we may not see coming. Ronaldo, Tevez and Ribery will occupy most of the column inches over the next 10 weeks but be ready for something you don’t expect. The one maverick we definitely do still have is the manager, and he still has a few tricks left up his sleeve.

Absolutely true. We hardly had an awesome performance all season. The second leg against Arsenal was the nearest we came to true United. I hope we keep Tevez. We need another Keane in midfield, and oh what I would give for another Ruud!

i agree with your article, but, you need to edit your work. this is typical of the crap i read online, with no spell check or punctuation editing. A professional writer should be ashamed

Posted by Choo Yong Meng on 06/07/2009

hey mark, i couldn't agree more with you!! i have to say we really lack some charisma and character in the team! Rooney is close but he did not show it during the barca game. Rio is the other close one but i was really puzzled why he too was left quiet during that game.gary was injured all season hence maybe that's who is lacking, but i know even if he is fit, he won't get many games due to his pace as we all know. perhaps if alex were to retire, the only leader cum manager i can think of to replace is Jose Mourinho! only he has the courage to demand quality out of the lads! lastly i hate to say this but i really don't mind selling ronaldo, if we can get the likes of ribery and benzema to replace him. we can't let tevez go, really, he suits the team so well! putting heart and soul into his game! i do think we need a more solid right back though, i can see it in micah richards though its tough to buy him over. unless brown can step up if not its gonna take sometime for rafael to shine.

Posted by JM on 06/07/2009

You are supremely correct in that Fergie is going to do something totally unexpected or if we see something made of someone on the fringes - Tosric wasn't used at all this season but i have a feeling there is more to him that fergie lets on and i have a feeling we'll see more of him in the future

thats my two cents

Posted by David Teo on 06/07/2009

I disagree! I think we already have a maverick in the rank, just that he is out injured.
We seems to forget about Owen Hargreaves. I think he wears his heart on his sleeves and yet a brilliant footballer!
Can't wait for his returns!!!

Posted by Octavio Rodriguez on 06/07/2009

Man Utd. need to sell off Nani a player that has not settled yet. Second player that needs to be shipped off is Berbatov, yes that is correct. He may be technically gifted but when he is on the pitch it is like watching the game in slow motion. And that is not how United plays. We all rememeber Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole, right? Well Tevez and Rooney form a similar partnership. If any players where to come in over the summer transfer window it should be Phillippe Mexes from AS Roma, to back up the defence. Why, you may ask? Well you have Gary Neville on his last leg, Brown who is injury prone, and Evans who has his ups and downs. Next player is a player with attitude in the defensive midfield role, Estaban Cambiasso from Inter Milan. He is no Roy Keane but close to it. The next player is a creative midfielder Andres D'Alessandro from Internacional (Brazil). He used to play for River Plate and Portsmouth but his pricetag was to expensive for Portsmouth so he is currently in Brazil.

Two things we need - a striker who plays up front (i.e. near the oppositions penalty box) and a creative left winger who'll track back and attack.
We have Hargreaves and Fletcher as ball winners in the team. Carrick is better than he's shown for most of this season. A left winger like Valencia could maybe free up Rooney to play where Giggs has been played so much this season and a striker who operates that high up, i.e. occupies centre backs, would give the opportunty to Rooney to both operate where he likes to play and to have a target to get the ball in the box to. If we sign another striker who likes to play 35 - 40 yards away from goal he'll be a waste of money.
We have lost that sparkle, but I think it is in part down to the roles played by Ronaldo, Rooney, Berbatov, Tevez and Park. Berbatov is a very talented player, but he slows Utd down far too much. So much of the time he'll turn back toward his own goal to lay off a pass than turn toward the opposition and really attack.

"this is typical of the crap i read online, with no spell check or punctuation editing"

I think it's unfair to liken this post to the many crap reads online simply because of the occasional spelling/punctuation slips.

To me, what separates a good read from a lousy one is the content. Mark here has really hit home, especially where United fans are concerned. I have seen many articles with flawless grammar, but the views portrayed are biased, groundless and sometimes bigoted.

As far as I'm concerned, a few slips here and there is not going to stop me from enjoying Mark's witty, lyrical and yet insightful uptakes on then football club that I've grown to know and love.

Keep doing what you do, Mark (and maybe this time with a spell check lol).

Glory, Glory, Man United!

Posted by Joseph on 06/08/2009

Wow, ur really being overly critical at this point. Do we have that Keane-type player in the middle, no? But from an attacking perspective we're stacked. We really could use a Xavi as a fulcrum - but there aren't many of such players about anymore. And the ones that are, are very difficult to find and/or obtain.

Ballack? Hahahaha. He hasn't been good since he left Germany. Brilliant is not a word I would associate with him since perhaps his Leverkusen days and his occasional inspirational performances for Germany.

I don't agree that Utd were slaughtered in Rome - I think Barca just showed up and we didn't. Are they still a better team than us when we're both at our peak? Probably. But the gap is not as wide as ppl wud make it appear. Their midfield is better, but I'd say we're as good if not better in every other area of the park. We shall see what adjustments Fergie makes in the coming months though.

Posted by Mark Payne on 06/08/2009

How many Leverkeusen games have you seen Joseph?

Posted by Grant on 06/08/2009

You make some very good observations. Comparisons from season-to-season are always difficult but we were not as 'watchable' this season as we have been in the past. Constant midfield and forward rotations makes it difficult to find that 'maverick' in each game. But from a positive position we have won the Premiership with 3 more points and a week earlier than we did last year beating Liverpool in the process. Our performance in the ECL final was poor and we were totally outplayed. A game where an attack minded strategy may have worked better against a team missing key defenders. From memory Wayne Rooney is a striker. Perhaps he needs to play there a little more often and form a partnership with Berbatov. If they can work together then the flair and attitude could return along with the goals.
Ballack is finished and has done very little at Chelsea. Not unhappy we didn't get him. Let's play the De Silva twins together and maybe an Aaron Lennon would be a good buy.

Posted by A. J. on 06/08/2009

Sorry guy's but I think Nani, Berbatov and Tavez will have to go. Out of these 3 Tavez would be only player that I would think twice but then again I would let him go easy. Ronaldo will stay.

The last season was great. You just have to remember this was the second year in a row that we reach finals in UCL. We deserved to be there but we didn't deserve it to win. Neither the Barcelona was supposed to be in the final as you all remember what happened in semi finals.

For the next season there will be new players coming in and one of the rummers I heard is that Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko had some call's from United. He's the top striker in Germanys league playing for Wolfsburg and top striker in World Cup qualifying. That could be a big supprise.

Posted by Ronny on 06/08/2009

In Rome, I think the first goal did it for use. You could see after that, what Barca did is hold the ball, keep passing around and attack only when there is an opening. Our players were chasing shadows basically. Wonder what will happened if we scored one in the opening few minutes! But credit must go to Barca. Our former player, Pique did really well. He even ventured to our territory a couple of time.

I think we need left sided midfielder like ribery or david silva. We could use Park, but he won't last for the whole season. With Giggs going to be rested most of the time, if we can get one of these player, it should be fine even if we were to lose Tevez!

And also, Anderson really need to start scoring if he is going to replace Scholes!

Posted by Tego Mauritius) on 06/08/2009

Bravo to Grant for being the first to point out what should have been told days ago:
"A game where an attack minded strategy may have worked better against a team missing key defenders".
End of quotes. It is sad that we have missed that sensational game where we could have had a classic final ending at 3-3 with extra time and penalty shoot-outs or 4-3 either way.
Our fans may express any views but they should think twice before criticing Mark or SAF. They are the best in their respective field.
Mark's style is so captivating that we would like his article to never end.
SAF has achieved the impossible mission of rising from 7-18 to 18-18 in beating our arch rivals by 11-0 in 19 years. He and the players alone can understand what happened on the night of 27th May when everything went wrong.
We must never forget that every player, from Oshea to Ben Foster, has had his share of contribution to what we have achieved this season. We are grateful to the entire squad.
Long Live ManU!

I think that united should buy Ricardo Charisma from chelsea. He is one of the most underated players in european football. He was always the heart of the porto midfield. Here we have a player with the speed of Lennon, the trickery of Ronaldo and the midfield master like Xavi.He is just wasting he's time and talent at that club, cause as u c he doesnt fit into their plan. And another player they should buy is Phillipe Mexes 2 replace our injury prone el'capitan Gary Neville..JUST A THOUGHT..USE IT DNT USE IT?

Posted by kolawole muyideen on 06/08/2009

I think we should sell off barbatov because the way play his game i don't like it because man united i use to doesn't play the way he plays.

Posted by kilama Charles Lagada on 06/08/2009

I wish d managers and owners of Man Utd fottball club 2 get big names like Kaka,Messi and Benzema and secondly players like Tevez,Garry should be offloaded to other clubs

Posted by kilama Charles Lagada on 06/08/2009

i on the issue of Ditmitar Berbatov am seeing that lad has bcome too relaxed on the pitch so you should check and assess him till the start of the sesson othrwise let him see the likes of Forlan,Van Nistelroy and Beckham where they have if he can not cope with the team let him other young lads like Macheda,Campbell And even Welbeck to give us happiness at the end of every games and even the end of the sesson.

Posted by kilama Charles Lagada on 06/08/2009

soo sory 4 what happened in Rome but dats the end of Utd the blames should be shared equally lets focuse on the next trophies i can disaggre with others that Nani should also leave but he is still young and he has not been given enough time on d pitch this sesson like last sesson but anyway he can pickup not like Barbatov,Tevez and Garry who are now doing nothing for Utd.Was it not Garry who made us to be given by Arsenal and Liverpool in the first half of the sesson i for one i dont mind loosing those lads.It was the hard work of Ronaldo,Rooney,Fletcher,Vidic,Anderson,Rafael,Evra and da few to mention. We want hard working men like Macheda who could figth for the lost like a hungry Lion in the bush.

Posted by shawn carter on 06/08/2009

I to believe in the article but there are a few thing that I have to ask why are we continuing with anderson who have not score a career goal as for the play of the game. What are we doing with Tevez he is the most improve player on the team and we really need to draw up what ever contract and sign the man.

Posted by Oni Omodion on 06/08/2009

great comments from lover of our great CLUB man. united. I think C. Ronaldo should go y players like Ribery and the likes should be brought into the squad.

Posted by Rishi Dayal on 06/08/2009

I think the thing we were really missing this season was Hargreaves? Remember him, guys? I can't believe he was injured all season. Of course, it was never really a concern to me at the beginning of the season, but with all those injuries in the back line, he could have been very, very useful. And I agree with you very much Mark. We never really put in a United-esque performance all year (unless you count CL semi 2nd leg and maybe the Spurs game with that ridiculous comeback). It was easy to ignore all those 1-0 wins while we were getting 3 points all the time and stocking up on our trophies left and right, but we finally were taught a lesson. Something has to change this season. I don't know, Ribery doesn't sound so bad. I mean, imagine this midfield: Ronaldo, Carrick, Ribery, and Nani. Rooney and (hopefully) Tevez up front for next season. I say the starting back line would be Rafael, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra.

Posted by victor on 06/08/2009

berbatov is slow but expirienced, ruud wasnt that fast but he positioned himself very well.infact he only scored 1goal outside the 18yard box all through his premiership season.if only berbatov will learn how to position himself;i think he will adapt.garry, giggs should go.either tevez or berbatov should stay.bron and owen should be given 1st team shirt next season.park flether, carrick and park are good and should stay.anderson needs to be accurate with passes and scoring if he will be played often.vidic, evra, ferdinard and vander sar are perfect!strikers like ibrahimovic or eto should be signed to pair with rooney.we just need a striker and probably a left footer like ribery.but ronaldo and park are good from sides, fletcher 2 if owen is playing.but tevez and berbatov,1 should go to effect discipline!

Posted by Mathew on 06/08/2009

I think the players tried their best to perform, but we keep on forgeting that they are supposed to play in accordance with the manager's orders.

My believe is that Frgie deliberately slowed dowm the pace of play as well as individual dribbling to safe-guard against fatique and injuries. But the team still did us proud with exception of a few below par prformances.

MIND YOU, WE CAN'T WIN EVERYTHIN! OTHER TEAMS ARE OUT TO STOP US, REMEMBER!

Posted by gavin on 06/09/2009

We need Ibracadabra (Ibrahimovic) to replace Berbatov. Ribbery to replace Ronaldo. Mahmoud diarra away form madrid. And of course a back up defender.

Posted by Mathew Thomas Kawogo on 06/09/2009

We really need players of Tevez-like. In this world soccer has become a tradition and adaptation to the situation is very important. This is why Brazil no longer outclass others on regular basis as it used to be. Currently, clubs with players or managers teaching speedy, control and accurate passes are winning. Players with slow pace like Berbatov are no longer coping with the current play.

I believe in Ferguson and his technical bench but I still believe he will be able to see this reality. There are times you can sell players who want to create their own kingdoms and still cope with the situation but no need of keeping players because the have bigger names and don't produce as expected by the club and fans.

We need to have sharp shooters like Eto'o, stronger mids like Keane or Viera-like and sharp thinkers like Niesterloy. I believe such players are there and we just need to snap them.

I was angry with teh performance we produced with Braca and hopefully it will never repeat.

Posted by JKY on 06/09/2009

The MAN UTD we saw this season is'nt like the MAN UTD last season, not that i am expecting a better performance from them but the pace of their game really slowed down a lot.In my opinion,Berbatov is really talented in creating chances but he is really slow, and after seeing him taking the penalty against everton...it was disappointing for a striker with a 30.75 million to take a penalty like that.

I really hope Tevez and Ronaldo will not leave MAN UTD cause their spirit is high during matches.I think MAN UTD should get faces like Valencia's Silva or players like Rooney, who is always after the ball and hungry for goals.

MAN UTD need to find players with cutting edge like Eric Cantona.I also think Van Der Sar wasn't on top of his form this season. At the end of the season he wasnt the unstoppable goalkeeper we saw in the last season.

MAN UTD is the best team in the world and thats why we need to build a strong team capable of overcoming other teams.UNITED TILL I DIE!!!

Posted by Syahir Yunus on 06/10/2009

My bet is we should try & keep the current squad and bring in one/two players. The position that i personally feel that need to be improve is the holding midfielder. Its true that its not the United that we know or love but fact is they still managed to score goals during crucial time.Barcelona showed that United really lack someone in the holding midfield position.United had no ans to Xavi & Co. passing. If only we had someone like Gattuso or Mascherano,it would totally make a difference.I realise that todays generation of players, its hard to find e nxt Keano or Viera. These 2 individuals are someone who u look up to when the team are down.Owen & Fletcher are good but they lack the leadership quality.Furthermore they are not consistent. If Ronaldo were to go,i really hope that Karim & Ribery will join us.If these 2 are in, it will totally covers the agony of losing Ronaldo. Nevertheless,i believe that whoever Fergie buy, is for the best of ManUtd.

4 my side i think the lack of fletcher and hagreaves in rome was a big loss 4 united..i think united is the good team and it needs only few changes in mildfielder and striking role.. berbatove is very talented in controling the ball but he lack speed and i think david villa and berbatov if play together united will slaughter each team..i think tevez must go and let keep berbatov..MANCHESTER UNITED FOR LIFE..

Posted by Zachary on 06/10/2009

I dont know why people are complaining about Manchester. The depth of our squad is huge and yes we need a few signings but if we kept the same squad for a couple of games we might become more consistent.
Berbatov is a great player but he does not fit the Man Utd style of game...so he should go. But players like Tevez and especially Ronaldo are ones we have to keep. The lift Tevez gave to us in the last month showed us why he is so good. Ronaldo didnt have the best season but still our leading goalscorer?? Why get rid of one of the best players in the world? Anderson has done nothing and should be let go coz we could get someone so much better.
Ribery would be a fantastic signing for Manchester United..would fit in perfectly with our attacking style. But lets not forget Nani's talent when he plays..he hardly gets played and he has been declared for Portugal..one of the best football countries in the world.

Sign maybe David Silva or Karim Benzema? Maybe replace Anderson with Fernandinho

Posted by Ifeanyi on 06/10/2009

I couldnt agree with you more. Even though we've been been winning cups for three seasons non-stop cant help but think that our squad's a little light weight when they go up against highly experienced opposition. Watching United play is always a delight but you can just tell that if you took away the gaffer the boys wouldnt be able to stand together. I think Ballack would have become one of the United greats if he had signed for us. Tevez is as good as gone and i cant understand why the most committed player who has been our most consistent worker (when he plays)has to leave like this. Berbatov is good like we all know but he is just too slow, hardly the kind of guy you'd think could save the day in a grudgeous sweatfest like the good old arsenal battles where Keane and Ruud would drag the team by the scruff. Give me Ribery, Benzema, Micah Richards and an iron man in the middle and we should see the days of grit come back.

the biggest flop weve ever purchased.

Ronaldo is gone, but i think its for the best. He is a great player, and I will always thank him and appreciate his service to united, but sir alex had to draw the line somewhere. you can't have a player that insubordinates himself to the manager. He questioned sir alex, the best manager in football, after the final in rome. He asked for a move and sir alex would have been stupid to turn it down. 80 million is a lot of money, and with ronaldos contract expiring in a few years, his value would have only gone down. sell him while we can get the best value. we will miss him but it is what i think is best for the club.

we need to use the funds from ronny's transfer to try and get tevez back. i know that at this point its beyond money for tevez. he was neglected at united and wants to try his hand elsewhere. but i still think that we should offer more, because hes well worth the money. losing him would be a tragedy and a loss far more devastating than that of ronaldo. fergie sign him up!

Whichever way you slice it, - losing the best player in the world is NOT a step forward for the best team in the world, & it is also a big slap-
in-the-face for utd. supporters! Ronaldo's skill was the vital edge that enabled us to the silverware haul over the last 4 seasons. I am sure the great man has a plan, but replacing Ronaldo may be as difficult as Man. City winning the premier league!

Hi guy and MU supporter !!

Ronaldo has gone , anyway we have to thanks for 6years services to MU and go thought glory and trophies ...
At this moments, MU must focus for next season without ronaldo, I thinks my respected sir alex will buying some new talent into squad,we can see this window and surprises given by sir alex
MU forever!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Martin Petrov on 06/12/2009

Guys, we do not need to buy another galaxy of players. Ronaldo is gone - fine. Now Nani can get his chance and prove he is worth it, and yes - technically he can approach Ronaldo. Rooney can be a leader, and without Ron, he will shine. Tevez will be gone - fine. We have a galaxy of talented young players, who can be led by Rooney and can learn from Giggs, Scholes, Ferdinand, Evra, Neville, Sar, Berbatov and Vidic. Shall we name them? Foster, Fabio, Rafael, Evans, Possebon, Hewson, Martin, Ljajic, Tosic, Welbeck, Macheda, Gibson are all very talented. Anderson also has the talent, and with Berbatov, Giggs and Scholes not getting any younger, he can find his place in the first team to blend better with the rest. Yes, United could have lost 0-5 to Barca, because Tevez has the spirit, but not the quality of a top striker like Villa and Toni, Ron has talent but played for himself, Ron was given a role he was not good at, Berba is good but not great. The youngster's time is come.

Posted by Morten on 06/12/2009

United we Stand - United we Fall - Not one man above them all!
Ronaldo is out. Gone. He has done so good! He brought a new game to the league. Personally I had hoped he stayed for one more season, but eventually we would have to let him go - his heart was missing. But rest assure. There will be another one..
Points have been made about the missing x-factor. You will never have a new King or Keane. Fletcher has the spirit but not the abbility. Rooney could get close in a year or two. It will be interesting to see Ferguson will bring in. But one thing is sure: MANCHESTER UNITED WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL!

I liked United`s unpredictability last season, goals were coming from everywhere. And as far as I am concerned this is one of the best teams on the planet. We contained and beat Inter Milan, that is a high point in our year I am still mourning that we could not net Ronaldino and we let a play like Malouda get into the hands of Chelsea. Of course we need one or two real robust players to beef up the team. Now that Fergie has let Ronalso loose he will unveil a surprise very soon. H is that sort of man, Fegie is.

Midfield, midfield. That all I have to say.Watching the UCL Final we were lacking here.BRING ON KEANO.Ronaldo is gone ,we will miss his talent, but no one is bigger than the team.I beleive in Fergie and think all fans will be be pleasantly surprised.THERE IS ONLY ONE UNITED.

I would really love to know why Tevez is so loved.....the guy cant hold onto a ball......he ruined so many plays this season....i just dont understand it......give him to Liverpool........In the mean time i have to take my hat off to John o Shea this season.

I agree to an extent with this article. Watching United last year was a lot more exciting than it was this year. A few matches had brilliance to them - but having the roster we had in at times should have yielded something with more punch all season long.

Ronaldo, when he was playing football, and not bitching about fouls, dominated the pitch. But, everyone knew his move was coming. So let him go, take the 80m and make good use of it. Sir Alex is a genius. He picks them young and harvest players into stars (giggs, rooney, etc.) so I don't think he'll let us down now.

Key is to bring up the intensity and work with the great players we have. Keep Tevez! Let Rooney be Rooney and he'll astound. Sell Bore-Batov because his style just doesn't fit. We need to get Wes Brown and Hargreaves fit...sit Rio for a while since his defending the latter part of the season was poor. Work in Anderson and Nani more, etc.. There's a great team still left without Ronaldo. come on you red devils!!

Any Manchester United fan should accept this deal. Cristiano has decided to leave us, we must accept his decision and hope that he will still conqueor the football world. We must not forget his input at Old Trafford, he is really a genius player. Despite being a Real Madrid player , I will still admire his way of playing. We should now think of our future. I do agree for the purchase of new players. To my opinion, we should firstly renew our midfield and secondly our defence. I do not care about our services in front as we still have the genius Wayne Rooney and hopefully Berbatov who will think that it is time to deliver. I do not know which way Tevez will go and I pray that he remains in UTD. I have learnt that Valencia is on Utd list. I cannot comment on his move, but I can say its a pretty decision, however I will prefer to have some English player in Man Utd squad. Rumours are saying that Benzema and Ribery are on man utd list. I hope we can seal these deal also.

Cheers CR7

The inevitable has occurred. We will argue the pros and cons over Ronny's departure and the manner in which SAF has handled the whole situation. I have questioned SAF's decisions over the last 14 years and every time he has proved me, and many others, wrong. This time I am giving him the benefit of the doubt. Our 'squad' is extremely deep, young and strong in all positions (how many right backs played this season?). SAF wouldn't make a deal like this if it wasn't for the betterment of MUFC. Nothing can be surer. I am sure whomever comes into the squad (remember no one really knew anything about Ronaldo when we signed him) will make us stronger. Hopefully an attacking midfielder who is prepared to defend with the vigour and desperation of Wayne and Carlos. Something Ronny never did. And at times it cost us goals.

Wazza is now reminding us, and probably SAF, just how deadly he can be up front. Hopefully he can do it against quality opposition as the qualifiers continue.

GB in OZ.

the departure or CR7 does seem inevitable, but we need to move on. Tevez can go. while he does play with intensity, he usually ends up looking like a rabid dog chasing the ball. we need to give Wayne a central striker role like he has for england and this will open up his scoring arsenal. he can score more goals, more important goals, if given the chance. Wayne is very capable of being the X-factor and with his short temper, can be the "mildly psychotic" on the field. ribery or valencia would be a good sign, but there are also some rumors of Zlatan coming, but i think the chances are slim. Barca have been eying him for awhile and surely will try to swoop in on him now that madrid has kaka, our beloved CR7, and soon david villa. berbatov deserves one more season before we sell him away. Macheda could also develop nicely into a deadly player. this off season and the upcoming season will be interesting and we will see how the Red Devils turn out.who will be the next dark horse, the next 7

Whereas appreciation should be placed where due and that is to CR7, this season was not worth keeping CR7, he should have been sold when he indicated wanting to go earlier this season. He messed us especially b'se he needed balls to him and thus sturving other players making him look like the only bull in the krall. He even has bad manners (Disrespect. Let give another chance to Berbatov and others like Nani to proove themselves. Rooney has always been perfect and remains the footballer of all season and positions. NOT FORGETTING THE REST WHO MAKE THE TEAM.

Something we could not expect?
Probably bringing in Messi, Fabregeas, Gerrard or Terry will really be something shocking. But seriously, if we need the spark on the field, Gerrard, Terry or Lampard will really do the trick... extremely well. but hey, we live in reality and that is not going to happen for God sake. there's a way to bring in sparks though, maybe i should call it fire.. by bringing in Newcastle bad boy Joey Barton. he's available in the market, and definitely not less sparks than Keano will bring, if Fergie don't affriad him from burning our ownself.
But Fergie, please don't bring in Barton please.

I really feel that we missed out, not on ballack but on mikel and essien. 2 amazing midfielders that could have and should have been ours and would be the answers to a lot of the midfield problems facing the team.

fergie,
i wish you never sold roni, its impossible to replace him , thats why madrid paid us that amazing sum,of money, ribery is distand second to ronaldo , but we all know munich well never let him go ,unless we pay 80mil for him , which fergie never well pay ,, iam realy not sure at all if we ll win anything this season, i mean it
