The fall out continues over the Roberto Mancini press conference and Garry Cook. Been a while since Fleet Street has had so much collective fun as they take each and every sentence and spin all kinds of nonsense. Whatever. I grow bored of it already. Bottom line remains; Right move, wrong time and in the wrong way.
Moving on...
Already the club has been connected with numerous players in the Serie A. Alas I suspect the players from the Bundesliga that made sense to me have little chance of now joining the club, if they ever did. The problem with all the speculation about players is that there appears to be not a single shred of evidence that Mancini is interested in them other than he's Italian and they play in Serie A.
David Villa is a name from Spain that we will be seeing thrown around but I'd be surprised if he moved in January. The summer for certain, but I find it unlikely that it will happen when the transfer window opens up.
For now as the maelstrom surrounds City the reality is no one knows what January will being for the club and all that is certain is that all eyes will be on the game against Stoke.
Have a very Merry Christmas and we'll see you back here on December 29th.

Wallace,
Wouldn't he try to get some defensive help now that Lescott is out and toure is going to africans cup? Or is that good with working with defense that he can fix our problems? I would say to get a playmaker to distribute the ball and world class defenders if you can get some in January. If we dont get the playmaker that Ireland wold fill that roll? As long as he is playing things happen on the pitch. Merry Christmas Wallace
Wallace Reply It appears that some of the defensive frailties have been addressed by restricting the adventurous forays of the full backs. That being said it seems obvious to me that given the injuries in the squad that the club must buy in the transfer window.

I absolutely love the rapid fire posts Wallace! I am curious about the player "revolt" that is supposedly taking place. Is there still a high level of resentment about the move on the squad and if so what do you see as the fallout? I am also seeing a lot of linkages to Serie A attackers like Cassano and Balotelli. I don't particularly think there needs to be more attackers on the squad even with the African Nations Cup coming up. I'd be more interested in seeing how Mancini plans to shore up the defense. Of Lescott and Toure, who do you see as more culpable for the sieve-like nature of the City defense?
Wallace Reply I suspect the "revolt" was just press machinations rather than any deep issue. Mancini likes to play two attackers with his diamond formation so that would imply at least one more striker for the club. That being said the formations used so far have taken advantage of the players that the team already has.

A few days into things and fully digesting what has transpired I have come to the following conclusions;
1. Sparky could never have done enough to please the new owners. Their perspective in different than long time supporters in that they are not happy "merely staying up" or being mid table.
2. The talent we posses is not performing up to expectation. My gut feeling is that Robi has a lot to do with this. You cannot have dissension in the locker room, and Hughes was not able to put a collar on those who were not on board.
I have to be honest and say that we would have not finished in the top four this year with Hughes, but I I don't think we will do it with Mancini either. Maybe things will gel now, but I am not holding my breath.
I hope and pray we all come together and start playing the type of football I know we are capable of playing.

So Mark Hughes has been shown the exit. Good luck Mark. You're an excellent football manager.
What next ? Sack Garry Cook. He's not a football man. Never had a track record as one. And after this debacle, never will. He's shown himself as untrustworthy, never mind a lackey lap dog for the Arabs. He'd sell anyone out to buy his self-interest. No player, new, prospective or present should trust the bloke. This is the guy after all who if you remember, introduced Mark Hughes at his first press conference, as "one of the greatest managers" in English football.
Onto the future with Roberto Mancini. Good luck on two counts. The first, a top four finish. Otherwise, you're finished, right? In which case, good luck on your next appointment at a more principled, civilised club.
To the Arabs, a final note. You might be able to buy trophies. But loyalty doesn't come with it. That you can't buy. Go figure.
