August 4th 2009. Mark it down. Liverpool lost the title today. Certainly they will bring in a replacement for Xabi Alonso but that's it, game over. Must be a strange feeling to know, with an absolute certainty that your best chance in years to win the Premier League is gone. In Rafa we trust is going to sound pretty hollow now. You know how much I hate that Elano left City? This is ten times worse for Liverpool.
Last year I would say that Liverpool had the best team while United had the best squad which is why United won the league. With Alonso gone there's now a real question as to who has the best team. I had a sneaking suspicion that this was going to be the tightest race in years for the Premier League and now I'm convinced.
United and Liverpool have come back to the pack. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to this year's season, and the action off the field to the transfer deadline is going to be nearly as crucial as the first few games.
The importance of having players into camp early cannot be overstated. It was yet another reason that I loved the Gareth Barry early pick up. With ten days to go until the start of the season Liverpool will have a hard time integrating any new signing into their team.
Meanwhile Fabian Delph has completed his move to Villa. Smart piece of work, again, by Martin O'Neill who I'm fairly convinced is going to be the next England manager. If City ever let Micah Richards go, and I would prefer that they did not, you can be pretty certain Villa would be first in line.

You're right on the mark: I, too, thought, "Liverpool lost the title today" when I read that Alonso was leaving.
Chelsea's had a strong pre-season, but will age keep them from climbing the summit? Will ManU find a way to hold onto the title despite losing Ronaldo? It's hard to imagine Arsenal winning with so many changes.
But that's why they play the matches: to find answers to questions such as these.

Yeah... I'm going to have to agree with you on this one.
Would be funny if Mascherano goes too. Then Liverpool might be fighting for 4th place with City!

Let Alonso go, Lucas will take his place. He's still young but is gaining maturity.I can see a bright future for him.
Liverpool will challenge for the title, bot I can't see Man city even in the top four.

I truly agree as well Wallace. I think this move and the loss of Ronaldo and Tevez will bring both clubs back into the pack. This ipens the door for Chelsea now to win the league in my opinion. This season will truly defy MH for city. If he can get teh right tactics in place, we can prove to be a force in the league and make some real noise. It will come down to how he manages though. If the team come together and play the football they are supposed to play, we can be right up there. It all depends on our manager. I hope he pulls through with a great season. CTID

Chelsea have got to be in the title contention for sure this season. Man U didnt win anything for a while last time they sold a team superstar, ie. david beckham. Now liverpool have lost their great holding midfielder, whatever shall they do???!!!

I disagree that liverpool have lost with the sale of Alonso i don't believe Liverpool as an organization should stand the way of Alonso and if they did he will not give in his best have you forgotten William Galas and Ashley cole? We should not forget that football is a taem game

Some people say they can't see Man City even in the top four. Who's know? Just words is not the right answer. Watch, Look and See you will know where Man City will end up. We have one Thai poem ( if you don't try you will never reach your goal), I wish that M.C will reach their goal. I always read sport news. Many peoples talking about Mark. Spending a lot of money like this like that.
You paid a good price you will get good quality, you paid low price you will get bad quality. Is right? If you want to built nice and strong house what you need to do? Are you going to use bad quality of woods, bricks, cements? I don't think so. I know that you are going to use strong woods, good quality of bricks and cement.
That's what Man City is DOING NOW. This is only the beginning of two steps for Mark. He is clever guy, he will do what he have to do, he know what he have to do and how to do too. I can't wait to see Man City playing soon. Now you get the players that you need.
Do your best. G.L
