The other shoe has dropped, as we suspected it would, and having been left at home for the South African tour it is now pretty obvious that Elano is on his way out of the club. I am really annoyed at this. It is everything that is wrong about Hughes and lends credence to the opinion of many that Hughes is incapable of managing superstar players. I'm sorry, I don't care how many great players we bring in from different countries if a player starts for Brazil and can't make it into the line up at City the presumption until proven otherwise is that it is the fault of the manager not the player.
The first rumour is that Elano will head for Cologne on loan. Hopefully this is true giving the club the option of keeping Elano should Hughes fail in managing the other star players that he has brought in. Yes I'm ticked off by this. I think Elano is a singular talent.
Update:... One of our regular readers has pointed out that his may be a silly season rumour based on Elano playing in the Confederations Cup. My point stands that Elano should be playing, but maybe the rumour mill got me this time!
At least it was nice to see Mark Hughes go on the offensive and point to the assembled media what we've been saying here for a week. You can't tap up a player when his current club is the one that publicized the official approach in the first place. The fact that the average Chelsea fan seems unable to grasp this concept speaks volumes.
Meanwhile United are in the position of having players wanting to leave their club and you can see that it's a new experience. Poor old Sir Purple Nose doesn't know what to say. One week the team offered Tevez a deal, then it's he tried to call him and now Tevez isn't worth the money that City paid. Kind of helps if you get your story straight when commenting to the press. If he's not worth 25 million then why did the club offer him a contract hmmmm?
And speaking of United Rio Ferdinand of all people making perfect sense. The United defender is quoted today talking about the injection of cash into City, but adds that this season will be like last year but with Arsenal more in the mix and a possible challenge from Everton, Spurs or City. This is not good. I think he's 100% correct!

honestly, i think we need to ship elano out on loan. the guy doesn't track back. he is possibly the best spot kicker on the pitch, but he is lazy and needs to learn how to play defense before he can be effective in the premier league. go blues!

Of course keeping a player like Elano only adds depth to an already creative midfield. Using him as a fringe or late impact player makes most sense. It's well documented there is an insubordination between player and coach and if Hughes is to be City's singular leader then unless Elano can play ball with Hughes he should ship out. Although losing a play maker like Elano could prove detrimental in the long run for City.

I love Elano, but I don't see where he will play with Ireland and Barry both starting. Add Robinho on the left and that leaves the right side of midfield where he's not as effective. If we play one striker up top for difficult away ties then it's a possibility. Something like 4-2-3-1 with Robinho, Elano, Ireland supporting the striker. I'd hate to see Elano go, but I don't like seeing him wasting his prime years sitting on our bench when he could be a Serie A star.

You get caught up in every Elano rumour! If he keeps his head down and works hard then Hughes will still involve him, he moaned at a stupid time last season and I think MH was making an example of him. And quite right too: he's the boss.
If elano can handle not playing every game then there's still a place for him at city. I believe the squad Hughes is building will create a 'Home side' and an 'Away side', Robinho and Elano will feature way more at home than they do away. And that's all fine with me.

Wallace,
Maybe the Elano outing is because he is a negative influence in the locker room and he doesnt want to come off the bench. I also want him to go out on loan since I dont think MH will stay as the manager. Even though I like MH, I just dont think he has the correct tactics to take us to the next level.

I agree that Elano is a great talent, but if he is disruptive in the dressing room then you've got to get rid.
I too suspect that Hughes has had problems handling big signings, we will see what happens this season, but Elano has no right demanding an exstention to his contract when he has been too inconsistant.

I agree Elano is a unique player on the roster with undeniable talent, and I think the disruption allegedly caused by his insubordination last year was media garbage. He likes to play, that is true, but I don't think he was left out of this weeks challenge for any reason different than Robinho and you don't see any media saying Robinho is being sold. I think we hold on to him as yet another option this season. If there are problems with him that Hughes can over come we can address them in the January window maybe swapping him for an area of deficiency.

Wallace. for once I totally disagree with you.Elano is not a team player.Doesn't track back Whenever I saw him play last season he seamed to give the ball away more than the avereage player & he's a cancer in the dressing room and for what he brings to the team we already have it ,also we "should" have enough talent in Midfield now. One thing I have noticed with Hughes's rebuilding is that we had a problem in the dressing room when he first got here(sven's buy's) All the players he's bying right now are proven EPL players and have great caricature and that's what City need right now . Lets hope for a Top 6 this year & a Cup Final. Then lets get into the Champs League and go for the Title in the nxt 2-3 yrs....... Neil in California / ex manc !

this whining about elano is silly... seriously. you want to hold on and play five in Midfield and who up top. Tevez by himself? please. If hughes was really going to do that (play five in midfield) why buy all these strikers? think about it... there has to be at least one defensive midfielder (De Jong, Kompany?, Barry?, Zabaleta), then three of Irelend, Elano (if he stays), WrighPhillips, Petrov, Johnson, and Barry (?), plus two of Robinho, Adebayor, Tevez, RSC, Bellamy, Bojinov (if he stays)... talk about a selection headache...
Keeping Elano would definitely add to our depth, but as far as ACTUAL opportunities to play, I am not sure that they are really going to be there (did you see Ireland yesterday? he was all over the place, picking up right where he left off). and this when there are rumors that we may be in for Xabi Alonso...
Letting Elano go would not be a bad move, although it may isolate Robi even more, and be a prelude to his eventual exit (in Jan?).

don't read too much into Elano being left out of the squad that has travelled to South Africa. Both he & Robinho (together with Micha Richards & Nedum Onuha)were left out of the squad due to their partaking in the Confederations Cup (Under 21 Euro Championships for Ned & Micah).
They have been given extra time to recuperate before reporting for pre-season training.

Whether Elano remains or leaves, it will not have any impact on City. I only wonder, with so many strikers (10?) how would Hughes rotate them? The way I see it City would strong up front but a kind of weak at the back. Get more goals and concedes more goals too, may be.

I don`t think we are so well equipped with midfielders to even consider moving Elano on, at present I would think that our best midfield four potentialy would include the Brasilian. Elano, Ireland, Barry and Kompany would be my pick with the alternatives to Ela beeing Johnson and SWP. The left side is little better with Garrido, Petrov or Robinho the choices.
After all the additions up front, and assuming the frailties in the centre of defence are addressed, is all well and good, but you need a bit of flair in your midfield and Elano is one of the few at City who can provide it.

Elano is a one trick pony. Free Kicks. Brazils answer to David Crapham. Elano wont be missed. Once he's gone maybe we can get rid of Mark Hughes?

he did give the ball away too much, but maybe cause of the player on the other end.. when playing with better quality it does pick up ones game.. I would hold on to him for a minute and see how things work out.. maybe loan him out just before 31st...

This only shows how senseless City's buys have become.
How ridiculous can it be to have 10 forwards in one team. Lets be frank here, none of them are coming to City to play football, they are there just to collect oil money. If City fails, they will always get a new club, unlike the fans who cant support any other club even if they want to.
And just a piece of advise:FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, STOP thrash talking about Manchester United and concentrate on your own successes and failures.

I think Man City should have opted out of signing sant cruz and kept elano who is in my opinion a very solid player who could add something to the midfield along with other new signings such as tevez . It would be a pity for them to release him. I think that if he is contented with not starting every game he should be kept and allowed to fight for his starting place.
