I would love to be proved wrong; I would love to see it announced tomorrow that Tevez has joined City but I keep thinking that he will end up somewhere else.

This is in part due to the public comments that are being made. Tevez wants to play in important games and to be the first choice striker. City can certainly offer him the latter but let's be brutally honest, the club is going to have no important games this year.

I'm aware that the Daily Mirror is claiming that Chelsea have no interest in the Argentinean striker but the fact remains that especially given the European suspension handed out to Didier Drogba and the African Nations Cup in January of 2010 in which Drogba's Ivory Coast team will compete, Chelsea is by far and away the most logical destination for Tevez.

Still no word on any defensive targets which should be the priority. City were the 5th highest scorers in the Premier league last year, and the 3rd highest at home. Indeed City won more games at home than any other club except United. A repeat performance in the new season combined with a better away performance would see the club rocket up the table. Newcastle, who were relegated least we forget, let in less goals away than City last year.

I am a bit puzzled so far in the moves that City has made. I love the Barry pick up and a little reticent about the proposed Santa Cruz pick up. If we get the Santa Cruz of 07/08 then it's a steal. What is puzzling is that I keep hearing City going after Eto'o as well as Tevez. With that line up I suppose the object is a scoreline of 6 goals a match. I still don't see how that will help an overall porous defense. What prospects are around for helping the back four?

I think the Santa Cruz signing will be good. I understand Wallace's concern that no one from the Big Four is going after him, but he's just the kind of burly striker that City need. Caicedo, for all his size and potential South American skill, is quite meek in front of goal, and never seems to want to shoot. Santa Cruz will provide a genuine goal threat, and will definitely deliver a headed goal or two.

Also, if City buy Tevez, then where does that leave Bellamy? He's the small, very committed striker who can net 15 goals a season.

But that's exactly what Tevez is...
