The world has gone mad. An 18 million pound transfer fee, four and a half times more than was paid for the player a couple of years ago for a player with one good year in the Premier League.
No, I'm not talking about Roque Santa Cruz, but Liverpool's move for Glen Johnson.
Absolutely insane. if you wanted Exhibit A as to why Rafa should not be allowed to run transfers at Liverpool then this is it. Ten million would have been over priced.
My concerns about RSC have been noted. Fit for an entire season then I think he's a fine addition to the team. I don't think he could crack the starting line up of United, Liverpool or Chelsea, but certainly I feel he is better than the current incumbents at Arsenal. Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham.
More than anything RSC allows the team to play a different brand of football when playing away and if that gets the team 4 or 5 victories more a year then it is completely worth the investment.
Elsewhere I suspect the England U21's will regret letting Germany qualify for the semi finals of the tournament. An aggressive England could have enabled Spain to qualify and allow England a better chance of winning the competition. Would just be England, and Stuart Pearce's, luck for England to meet Germany in the final; and lose on penalties.
Real Madrid's Gabriel Heinze is being linked with Tottenham. I would be very interested to know what Hughes, the former Wales boss of course, thinks of Gareth Bale. He's a player I've always liked even as his form dipped the past couple of years. Might there be an opportunity to pick up a good young full back for a reasonable price who can become part of the long term plans for City moving forward?

With the (probable?) addition of Tevez, City are golden from the midfield up. They have good depth, with some potent substitutes. I do wonder who will be culled from City's forward line though. I hope Bojinov stays. He never got the chance to prove himself, and deep down I believe he's a real goal scorer.
Two quality defenders and I think City will be pushing for fourth, provided Hughes can get them to gel quickly.

Hello there,
Quite frankly,i impressed by the capture of Roque from Blackburn,he's no doubt a fantastic striker, but with the tall ambitions of a team like mancity,Samuel Eto'o would have been the most perfect addition this summer, not forgetting how much stress Evra had to go thru marking him,the outcome of ManU vs Barca is there4 ervry one.
Bye.

One or even better, 2 full backs and a damn good defensive midfielder should be in the forecast for Man city to truely become a force to be reckon with !!! ... players in the likes of Maicon, or Phillip Lahm from Bayern, or even Ze Roberto ... Man city need really need to re-enforce the defence and the mid defence before the close of the transfer window ... then ... only then ... Man City will become a power house in the EPL.... this is my take !

Man City have scored a lot of goals last season but conceded too much in return because of a lack in defence and defense midfielders !! this is where their main concern should be ! not more firepower upfront ! ... they had plenty of that ! Roque Santa Cruz is a good add .. as well as Tevez ... but that does not solve their number one problem : Defense !!!! the goalkeeper issue was solved !
peace !

Santa Cruz is a great addition, along with Tevez, who despite squandering numerous chances.. is a world class striker, will get Man City into the Champions league places. However, with Robhinio, Tevez pairing up with Cruz coming off the bench.. & Bojinov being an additional target-man, why did they buy Bellamy ?? He seems like a waste of money compared to those guys. Also, the host of strikers already on the books should be sold..at a fire-sale, i see no sense in loaning them out, and more guys will come in some time in the future.

this is the whole reason y city's goin 4 terry. their wastin their time when they should be concentratin on some1 they can actually GET. i believe the only reason chelsea bidded on glen was to raise the price 4 pool and make them spend tat money lol
