The Daily Fail is at it again. Once more City are being linked with Kaka and other world superstars. Enough already. Stupid papers with stupid rumours showing exactly why it's a failing business. We all know the script. City get linked to a hundred players in the off season, sign a number of quality players that are appropriate to our squad needs and then the club gets ripped in the press for not signing the superstars even though we are "the richest club in the world."
Yes of course there are mercenaries out there that are only looking for a paycheck but the superstars want European football even if this is the one season every four years that they shouldn't! With the World Cup coming up in South Africa the top players should actually play less to allow them to be in top form for the World Cup - and good luck using that as a sales pitch.
The only reason that a team such as City, in the current state of affairs, can attract a supreme talent is if circumstances outside of normal playing issues are a factor.
You may recall the comments I made prior to the transfer window in January and then in February once we had seen what had occurred.
The most relevant one to the past week was the initial prediction below and then my follow up expectation of what this would mean.
"Manchester United will look to bring in a replacement for Owen Hargreaves who is not cup tied in Europe.
I think Old Purple Nose just lost the Champions League with his failure to act. Hargreaves was bought to help in those away games against continental opposition late on in the Champions League and the irony of course is that United then played Chelsea in the final. If United play English opposition in the semi final and final then they have a good chance to win but otherwise I feel this failure to act will cost them."
Therefore Barcelona's victory in the Champions League Final came as no surprise. Not because I dislike United, but because they had specifically failed to address a squad need that the injury to Hargreaves created.
This is the one area of the club that United should address this summer. Why does this impact City? Because if United have the financial ability to make one major signing each off season, which is what they've said in the past, then this explains the apparent reluctance to sign Tevez. He's essentially a luxury that United can't afford. And so circumstances come together where City may have a chance at a player that normally they would not.
Does that mean City will sign Tevez? No. It means that for this player the planets align so City are in play. So forget Kaka, Messi, Villa, Torres and others. They don't make sense. When you hear the latest rumour dig a little deeper. Think it through.

Well said. I have said all season that we can score goals with the best of them, but its defense we truly need. I would love for a great midfield player to come in with experience, but also do the little things that give us opportunities to score. (great passes, leadership, win the ball in midfield, ect) Some of the signings in January have filled some roles, but we need smart moves that fit what we are trying to do. Would I like Torrres and Messi and Villa? Absolutely, but those players are the icing on the cake. We need to build the foundation that is solid first. The team needs to be built on solid defense and a great supporting midfield. Those are the areas where we need to be looking at first.
