Liverpool's 2-1 loss to Arsenal at Anfield had to be the most disappointing game of the season. To play like we did at Bolton and get beat is deserved. To play like we did on Saturday and lose proves that football is a funny old game.
Honestly I can't remember the last time we have played so well against Arsenal. Normally they always have lots of chances against us and we seem to chase the game. However, in this match we completely dominated from start to finish. I didn't even realize Van Persie or Yossi were even playing until about the 15th minute.
Liverpool were camped out in Arsenal’s half and we are such a better side when Carroll doesn't play. Our passing is quicker, shorter and along the ground. The big man has been better recently and has shown signs of working harder for the team but I'm just not sure he will ever be a first-team regular. Kuyt and Suarez were unplayable at times with Henderson having a fantastic bounce-back game after his disappointing League Cup final performance.
Liverpool missed another penalty as Kuyt stepped up after a wonderful move with Suarez. The goalkeeper was lucky not to see yellow or red, but the ref did the right thing. The referee was quite good; however, the linesman on the dugout side was a complete waste of time. Kuyt should have scored the rebound and Liverpool must capitalize on these goalscoring opportunities.
Our goal finally came, and it was a slice of luck, but the build up to the goal was fantastic. I'm not sure what Laurent Koscielny was thinking but it was more then we deserved at that point. Somehow Arsenal were level a few minutes later. A lovely cross by Sagna found an un-marked Van Persie six-yards from goal. Obviously questions need to be asked directly to Carragher about that goal.
Once they scored I kept waiting for them to get on top but immediately we took control again, hitting the post right before the break. Suarez had already hit the post after Henderson should have scored.
The second half was a bit more even I suppose with Reina making one great save with his feet but Arsenal never really got in the game. They were helped by an injury to Arteta which stopped our momentum and he was completely ineffective. We still dominated the half and with better finishing (story of our season) we should have been out of sight.
The best opportunity fell to Downing who should have just slid the ball to Suarez for a tap in but his cross went at the keeper. We can't keep making those mistakes! Somehow Arsenal scored at the death with some poor marking by Carragher and Kelly. It was out of nothing but you have to tip your hat to Van Persie who got his shot on target. Arsenal walked away with the three points and fourth place is a pipe dream at this point.

Liverpool's shots to goals ratio is terrible
For all of Suarez skills, he's not exactly prolific. And Carroll - the less said the better.
But Dalglish has a lot to answer for. Spending £120m in a year and winning a Carling Cup is nothing! Everyone would swap a meaningless Carling Cup for 4th place. Those who don't (like Gerrard) are liars. Liverpoll were the only team who fielded full strength teams. Why? Becasue they had no European matches to worry about. Next season, when Dalglish is fielding B-squads in the Europa Cup - watching the Champions League will hurt.
Dalglish has failed badly with his spending.

How? because the players are spineless chokers and serial letdown merchants.

Have to disagree with the assessment of Henderson's performance. He was largely invisible on the right. His only meaningful contribution was a cross so horrible Arsenal kicked it into their own goal. I don't mind him on the right with Johnson is behind him, because Johnson is a threat. However, Kelly is not yet a good crosser of the ball and does not get far enough forward. There was acres of space on the right the entire game yet we kept going up the middle and left.

This was our best chance right here to make a statement. Kudos to Arsenal who always seem to have that killer instinct we lack since the days of Torres. This rivalry with them has always been onesided when the games counted in magnitude. I don't get it, we suffer Arsenal unlike any other club, yet there is no bitter rivalry with the them (and thankfully so - I hate onesided affairs). I prefer to set our sights higher, and get that back to winning the domestic championship, take back whats ours from Manchester United. What you all say?

If luck changes quickly,We still have enough time to get in that race for top4.Its just a matter of two good results for us and two bad ones for them. With Chelsea in turmoils,an injury to RVP could turn our luck 180 degrees. As you said Football is a funny old game..!!#fingers crossed

2 sequences summed up the entire game for Liverpool, and maybe most of the season:
-Stuart Downing's awful attempted pass to Suarez when wide open that went to Szeszny instead
-Suarez cutting through like 80 people, shooting, and having a goal of the season contender saved by a finger tip save
-you could also throw in multiple post hits as well
So who is on PK duty now? I'm voting for Glen Johnson. This is getting ridiculous. To think Adam even thought he had a chance of taking the PK after the Carling Cup final, he needs to be put back on his medication, lol
Part of me is getting kind of nervous because I get the feeling that Dalglish & Comolli don't actually think Liverpool needs a couple new players, but Henderson/Adam... good lord. As soon as Lucas went down I feared for Liverpool's season because it almost guaranteed 1 of them would play every game, and now it's them both playing *shudders*
What is the point of having subs if you're not going to use them until the 90th min?

We realy need to improve on our scoring ability and make use of the opportunities that comes along where we need to capatalised those creation in front of goal mounth.

This game pretty much sums up our season - struck posts and missed penalties.

King Kenny is sure doing a great job. He's kept LFC's visibility ever since he took over a little more than a year ago. Results may be undoing at the moment but this doesn't erodes the feeling of calm and hope in and outside the field of play.More people watch LFC matches now than when he took over.4th place not a guarantee yet not even for Arsenal/Chelsea so lets keep hope alive.up LFC
