I'm truly sorry about the delay in writing this post match summary of the Bolton game. I'm just not sure what I can say that has not been said in the press already. This was a special treat for me as I was able to watch the game with my dad. For regular readers of my stuff over the years you will know that I often drive the 20 miles to sit with him and watch the match together. It's something we enjoy tremendously. I have two kids that are getting bigger so my schedule does not always permit the drive time however Saturday was a perfect for me as I headed to San Mateo to watch the match.

We started brilliantly and never let up for 92 minutes. If the ref had any clue and if we would have finished our gilt edge chances this should and could have been ten. The ref missed one stone wall pk, another pretty obvious one and a clear back pass. He was awful, but we weren't. We were good, very good. Little Luis will get most of the praise, rightly so, as the outside of his right boot pass some 30 yards to Downing was a moment of sheer genius. If that shot would have gone in they could have locked up the goal of the season. He was unplayable. The goalie made a good save on that but Kuyt's hustle and Henderson's nice finished put us 1-0 up. I was a touch afraid that we would take our foot off the gas at 1-0 up but Lucas made sure that didn't happen. He was just unstoppable and seemed to be tackling the entire team by himself at times. He was a one man wrecking crew and for me was our man of the match. 1-0 at a halftime was a travesty but Martin's header put the game out of reach by the improving Adam and then that same player scored his third with his right foot. (I didn't' see that coming)

We should scored more and more but failed to take our chances. A silly mistake by Jamie at the end almost spoiled it for about 15 seconds but then I thought back to how good we were. Every player, Martin at right back, Jamie and Agger in the middle, Pepe with his passing, Enrique with his all round game, Downing, Lucas, Adam Henderson, Kuyt, Luis and the subs played well.!

Coates is in today and Poulsen is gone. Today has been a good day.

Lucas was immense. He got stuck in and fought for midfield supremecy. His battling with Davies for high balls was a man putting his team before himself.

Adam did OK, although I wish he got forward more -he plays far too deep for me.

THANK GOD!!!! I was starting to think that I am the only one who realises that Lucas is the very engine of Liverpool. In the Bolton game he was completely imperious.....I could not believe what I was watching. It was as perfect a game as I have ever witnessed! I know why Suarez gets all the headlines, but for me, on his current form, Lucas is THE reason I am so optimistic for this season. 'Javier' who?????

I like that even though almost all the decisions went against us (holding Suarez's leg but no pk, the obvious obvious backpass) we were strong enough to just push through.

Suarez's sadness at not scoring was excellent, I like his hunger. Hendo's pass to release Suarez (where he tried to lob the gk) was absolutely brilliant.

The only dent is that we must be able to finish better in order to mount a challenge. That and we need to get Carroll integrated. If these two happen, things would really get interesting.

Hi Kevin,

I noticed that you live in the Bay Area, is there a good Liverpool bar in San Francisco (for those times when the game is not on at 5am)? I am moving there in three weeks, and it would be great to catch a game with other supporters with the game time is right.

With regard to the Bolton game, it was a great display of what we are becoming. My only concern is that the Prem officials appear to consider Suarez to be a diver, which he really is not, and that reputation could hurt us in a closer match. Any thoughts?

Misha

About
Kevin Brodie Kevin Brodie has been fortunate enough to see some of Liverpool’s greatest teams and players in action over the last 35 years. Reds fans are spoiled for choice in trying to pick their favourite memory. The best early memory I have of watching Liverpool in person was our 7-0 thrashing of Spurs, with the 7th goal being a thing of beauty. Watching us in 89 lift the FA Cup after the terrible disaster at Hillsborough was also very special. My favourite Liverpool moment on the TV has to be the Champions League final in 2005. It was a day I will never forget.
