Liverpool were given the perfect start to the match after some bad goal keeping by Ben Foster after a Spearing shot fell to the recalled Maxii Maxi had not choice but to place in the ball in the back of the net net. This was just the start that Liverpool needed and it came after a frantic opening 7 minutes when we looked very lively. This team is full of runners and every time Birmingham had the ball two or three red shirts were on hand to close them down.
Maxi was in for Carroll who was in the stands along with Gerrard, Agger, Johnson and Kelly. Are we really that many players away with Kenny in charge? Liverpool;s 4 3 3 lineup featured a few local lads with Maxi in a more advance role with Kuyt and Suarez, along with Flannigan and Robinson as the outside full backs. Liverpool dominated from start to finish with the man of the match, Lucas, again covering every blade of grass with a superb passing display.
For a few minutes after our opening goal Liverpool were on the back foot but Carragher did well to stop a decent a ball in by Carr. Once Liverpool regained possession they started to stroke it around with Meireles and Spearing also heavily involved. I would be remiss not to mention the running by Suarez and Kuyt. They were everywhere, dragging defenders all over the pitch. The second goal came from nothing as a flick on found Suarez through on goal. His shot was well saved but the follow up fell to Kuyt who has his effort blocked. Somehow Kuyt spun on the ball as it was behind him and put it home for 2-0. Liverpool could have made it more by half time with Suarez providing the spark.
Liverpool's only blemish on the match was the first 10 minutes of the second half. Birmingham came out with more fight in their belly and a good shot was saved by Reina at the start of the half. Liverpool had to defend and they did so in numbers. Once the third goal went in, Maxi's second the game was over. Clever running by Suarez again found Maxi un-marked at the back after Kuyt dragged Carr with him. The fourth fell to the hat trick man of Maxi as a shot was saved directly into his path. The fith was a bit of a joke as somehow Cole's limp shot went over the line.
It was a very good display by Liverpool as everyone was involved and everyone had a good match. A bit disappointed that Conor Coady didn't get a run out with 5 minutes to go but I'm being very picky.
Nice for the goal average as well. I'm not quite sure what Kenny has to do to get the job full time. If he would have appointed by those 3 baffoons (hicks, gillette, Purslow) this season would have been very different. Hopefully the feel good factor will continue for the last few games of the season. Next up Newcastle.

Not a bad start to the season except for that 1st game draw, how ever we need to get a few defenders lets face it Jamie is past his best for a while now. What really puzzles me is the signing of Bellamy what waist in my mind, was no good 4yrs ago can't be any now, and to buy him and sell morilles well that is mind boggling. We should try our darn-est to keep Dirk he is a work horse and reliable.Apart from that not bad but please don't sign Bellamy for the sake of friendship that was a mistake by Rafa don't follow in his footsteps. Oh by the way Liverpool ha s a huge fan following in the caribbean.
