Liverpool

I thought Liverpool were just awful on Thursday. We didn't have one single player on the pitch that had any invention or creativity. We also didn't have a player on the field that could actually go around a man with a bit of pace or creativity. If Joe Cole never plays for Liverpool again that is fine with me, he is totally over-rated and is a complete bust. I have given up on him.

Without Gerrard and Suarez we looked a shadow of the team that destroyed United. Carroll did just ok up front but he didn't really hold the ball up well enough as he was looking to play everything first time away to nearly men like Cole and Maxi. Of course, the Italian referee did us know favours as Carroll was denied a clear penalty after a blatant push in the back. We got nothing from the ref or the assistant who got about 50% of the offside decisions wrong.

Wilson looked shaky at left back but showing our lack of depth he was playing out of position. He does not have the pace to get around anyone at the back. Once he was played in but his control badly let him down. Only Carragher and Martin had good games to speak of. Johnson was just ok, he defended pretty well but his attacking play was very poor.

Kenny was forced to finally drag off both Maxi and Cole and they were replaced by Spearing and Ngog. Ngog should have scored at the death but the player seems to have lost all confidence. If Pacheho can't get a game when the game was calling out for goal the boy might as pack his bags and go.

So off to Sunderland, never a pleasant place for Liverpool to go. We do have a better chance with Suarez back but I have feeling that Andy Carroll will go back on the bench.

About
Kevin Brodie Kevin Brodie has been fortunate enough to see some of Liverpool’s greatest teams and players in action over the last 35 years. Reds fans are spoiled for choice in trying to pick their favourite memory. The best early memory I have of watching Liverpool in person was our 7-0 thrashing of Spurs, with the 7th goal being a thing of beauty. Watching us in 89 lift the FA Cup after the terrible disaster at Hillsborough was also very special. My favourite Liverpool moment on the TV has to be the Champions League final in 2005. It was a day I will never forget.
