Liverpool

Wigan are baffling to me. I just don't see how a team with that much pace and confidence on the ball can be in the Premier League drop zone. I was actually at the game in person at Wigan and they deserved their draw on that day. As a matter of fact they were the better team and should have won. Liverpool found the home fixture a very hard game but with a little bit of luck over injuries and with a linesman paying attention Liverpool would have captured all three points. We greatly missed both Agger and Gerrard and sick Meireles did not help matters as Liverpool were forced into making too many changes.

We had almost no pace in the side except for the very lively Suarez who was extremely unlucky not to cap his first start in a Liverpool shirt with a goal. He is quicker than I thought and was very eager to get involved in both the defensive side and the attacking side. I was very impressed with him overall however he did seem to want to go ground rather than try and keep his feet. Make no mistake, he was fouled every time, but I'm hoping that Kenny has a word with him and encourages him to try and keep his feet and go at the goal.

Lucas probably had his worst game for us in some time and I think playing in midweek for his country, with only 10 men took its tool as he did seem a touch of the pace. I thought Carragher excelled at the back and was my co man of the match with Suarez. Once we failed to go up by two goals I always thought Wigan were going to score but once again Liverpool conceded a goal that should not have counted. The Wigan goal scorer was a yard offside. Liverpool dominated the last 20 minutes but really lacked a cutting edge to break down Wigan. I was disappointed that Pachecho didn't come as this would have been a perfect game to give him 20 minutes. I hope he plays on Thursday in the UEFA Cup.

Dalglish did the best he could given the resources and he just seems to be getting on with the job at hand in a quiet comfortable manner.

Reina: 7 not a great deal to do and his kicking was not as great as normal. Couldn't do anything with the goal
Kelley 7 Got forward well and made some fine tackles. Seems to have made this position his own
Carragher 8 Dominating performance
Skrtel 6 Seems shaky at times but has been improving since Kenny took over
Johnson 6 Had some great chances to do something in the final third but it was not working for him
Miereles 7 Great goal but not his normal buzzing around self
Lucas 6 Quiet game and looked off the pace
Kuyt: 6 Worked hard but no end product to speak of
Suarez 8 Should have capped his full debut with a goal. Seems like a good prospect
Fabio 6 Wasted a free kick but composed on the ball. I just like him as a footballer
Maxi 4 Our worst player on the field. Not sure how he lasted so long
Ngog 5. Didn't do anything of note and should have really been looking to shake things up when he came on
Milan 3. Not much time but did not impress

About
Kevin Brodie Kevin Brodie has been fortunate enough to see some of Liverpool’s greatest teams and players in action over the last 35 years. Reds fans are spoiled for choice in trying to pick their favourite memory. The best early memory I have of watching Liverpool in person was our 7-0 thrashing of Spurs, with the 7th goal being a thing of beauty. Watching us in 89 lift the FA Cup after the terrible disaster at Hillsborough was also very special. My favourite Liverpool moment on the TV has to be the Champions League final in 2005. It was a day I will never forget.
