Liverpool

Liverpool's first half display was the best of the season, without a shadow of a doubt. I was really pleased with the line-up when I saw that Kelly was being given a game at right back. I still have not heard if Johnson was dropped or injured but either way the kid stuck to his job and put in an excellent display. I was surprised not to see our big Greek in the middle but I did think he picked up knock in midweek so he was probably injured. In hindsight not having him was not as much as a problem with Drogba on the bench for the first 45 minutes.

Of course Fernando Torres will get all the plaudits but this was a very good team performance. The hard working Kuyt partnering Torres up top, which I have to say I was irritated with in the opening stages as I didn't really want Miercels out on the right. I must say the formation did work however. Kuyt's ball to Torres for the first call was sublime. Gerrard was also very intelligent all day, not over doing anything and just doing all of the simple things very well. Our best player, and my personal man of the match, (Yes over Torres) was Lucas. He was simply superb and I think made two bad passes all afternoon. His work rate tackling, distribution and ability to read the game helped Liverpool win the battle of mid-field. Once Liverpool went two up just before half time I felt the second half would be a different story and it was.

We were not as effective in the second half with Chelsea having two great chances to score, Reina stopping the first one and Carragher doing so well on the second one. Liverpool had a great chance to score themselves from a Kuyt effort only to see Czech make a great save with his foot.

Hodgson even seemed to do a good job with subs, bringing in Ngog, Shelvey and Spearing to help with some tired legs. Overall it was a great victory and gave me some hope of a brighter future!

I'm off to Liverpool tomorrow for my Uncle's 80th birthday and I will be going to the Wigan and Stoke game.

Wish me luck!

About
Kevin Brodie Kevin Brodie has been fortunate enough to see some of Liverpool’s greatest teams and players in action over the last 35 years. Reds fans are spoiled for choice in trying to pick their favourite memory. The best early memory I have of watching Liverpool in person was our 7-0 thrashing of Spurs, with the 7th goal being a thing of beauty. Watching us in 89 lift the FA Cup after the terrible disaster at Hillsborough was also very special. My favourite Liverpool moment on the TV has to be the Champions League final in 2005. It was a day I will never forget.
