Liverpool

Well it's not over yet but the end to our current ownership saga seems to becoming to a breaking point. On Wednesday I first heard of a very strong rumour that Liverpool had been sold when Phil Thompson made a comment on a local radio station. After that the story seemed to pick up a head of steam.

Once Liverpool's official website reported that the two leeches who currently run our club wanted to remove Ian Ayre and Christian Purslow from the board and replace them with two of their own, war was declared in the LFC boardroom. While many fans want Purslow removed from the club, this time his motives could not be questioned.

From the statement on the website it was clear that Broughton, Ayre and Purslow are against Hicks and Gillette. Clearly they want an ownership change and by them accepting the bid of the NESV (New England Sports Ventures) they were telling the supporters that we have had enough with the leeches putting a ridiculous price tag on the club. Basically they called their bluff!

Of course, this is not over yet, Hicks and Gillette will take this decision to sell the club to court but hopefully, if there is any justice in the world, they will lose. If they lose the court case and the appeal it seems as if they will walk away with nothing, which obviously would be fantastic.

I'm not even overly concerned with our new owners... they can't possibly be worse than the last ones, and of course they can't say much because they don't own the club yet. However if I was in their shoes the very first thing I would do is to set up a private meeting with the head of Spirit of Shankly. They must get the supporters on their side with action not words!

Next up would be the must have someone from the ownership relocate to England. We can't have owners that are not at every game and not involved in the off pitch dealings with the club.

Third, sort out the stadium situation as soon as possible, even if that means fixing Anfield or getting a new stadium, sort it out.

Next up, back the manager, even if results are not good. This is the Liverpool Way.

As supporters we must put the New England's group nationality aside. Just because they are American does not mean they are bad owners... we must give them a fresh start.

Finally, you heard it here first. The next name that will be linked with the managerial hot seat at Anfield, as soon results don't go our way will be Steve Nicol...

About
Kevin Brodie Kevin Brodie has been fortunate enough to see some of Liverpool’s greatest teams and players in action over the last 35 years. Reds fans are spoiled for choice in trying to pick their favourite memory. The best early memory I have of watching Liverpool in person was our 7-0 thrashing of Spurs, with the 7th goal being a thing of beauty. Watching us in 89 lift the FA Cup after the terrible disaster at Hillsborough was also very special. My favourite Liverpool moment on the TV has to be the Champions League final in 2005. It was a day I will never forget.
