I thought Liverpool were very good for the first 15 minutes of this match and once they went ahead they were very poor, until the last 15 minutes.
I would have much rather had Torres chested down and volley goal had stood, which I thought was incorrectly ruled out for offside. Then the "backpass" goal. Both goals were legitimate, however Sunderland's sense of injustice seemed to shake them from their slumber and they dominated the game from that point on.
Sunderland always had men wanting the ball and seemed quicker then us. At times Liverpool's passing did seem useful and I thought Joe Cole had a good game for Liverpool as he always wanted to run with the ball. Liverpool gifted Sunderland's goal, it was an obvious pk, despite what Hodgson says. When you lift your hands in the air, and stop the ball, it's a free kick. Poulsen did not have a good game for us.
It was no surprise to me that Sunderland took the lead. The ball was played in and Johnson stood admiring the cross while Bent attacked the ball, Reina could do nothing to prevent it. Even after the goal Liverpool failed to pick themselves up until they went to a more conventional 4 4 2. Ngog presence seemed to make a difference and Liverpool. Torres was the creator again as he beat Bramble on the touchline and his deflected cross found the head of Gerrard's. I was pleased Stevie had scored, of course, however I thought his celebration was way over the top. Go get the ball and go get a winner. In saying that I thought he had a fine game in the middle of the park.
Liverpool searched for the winner and Ngog's shot was parried into the path of Torres and I thought he was bundled over. The ball fell to Joe Cole who should have scored but his shot was saved by a defender. Liverpool had a great chance at the death when Agger missed a sitter, I'm still not sure if the lino flagged for offiside or not..but either way he should have scored.
After the match some 7,000 Liverpool supporters stayed behind to protest our current ownership situation. Hopefully they only have 17 days left with our club.
