Liverpool

Joe Cole is a tidy player and if you would have asked me at the start of the summer would I take Joe Cole and 5 million pounds for Yossi I would have laughed but that is exactly what is happened this week.

The Joe Cole move to me was a good addition because it gives us a player who can go around people with tricks and flicks but also someone who can help provide goals and score them as well. He had a habit of scoring against us as well so that is one less player to worry about.!

Liverpool have had a good week in terms of footballing terms, adding Joe Cole and Danny Wilson and having Gerrard commit himself to the future. The only sour note is that Insua was sold who I do think will turn into a very good player. As a matter of fact I think he is a good player today, it's just that we was over used last year because he was only reliable fit left back at the squad. Deggen has been told by Hodgson that he can go and if you believe the papers Albert Riera is finally moving on. Now over to Mascherano and Fernando.

Let's not forgot that to date we have spent 2 million pounds in this transfer window with the addition of Danny Wilson (could go up to 5). Both Cole and the Serb were free so I hope that the sale of Yossi, Rierra and Insua won't be used to cover our debt and in the compensation we had to pay Fulham for Roy.

So I said that it's been a good week on the field but off the field things are still a mess and will be until our owners leave the club. Roy Hodgson was quoted this week as saying,

What will lift the supporters is if we get new investment,” said the Liverpool manager. “I know supporters are very anxious for that. We can’t ever deny it.

“All the time we are in our current situation in terms of investment, the supporters are going to be sceptical. You can talk until you are blue in the face but it won’t make any difference.

“The owners are not popular with the fans; the fans want new owners, they want new investment. The gloom, if there is any, is never really going to lift until that day comes.

“I’m not going to dupe supporters and say that everything is rosy just because we have signed Joe Cole.”

About
Kevin Brodie Kevin Brodie has been fortunate enough to see some of Liverpool’s greatest teams and players in action over the last 35 years. Reds fans are spoiled for choice in trying to pick their favourite memory. The best early memory I have of watching Liverpool in person was our 7-0 thrashing of Spurs, with the 7th goal being a thing of beauty. Watching us in 89 lift the FA Cup after the terrible disaster at Hillsborough was also very special. My favourite Liverpool moment on the TV has to be the Champions League final in 2005. It was a day I will never forget.
