Liverpool

I watched that game on my dad's new 47 inch flat panel TV, in HD and for once we actually looked good on it.
The news and results this weekend were particularly poor. I just couldn't believe Scholes scored that goal with his head in the dying minutes which started off a bad weekend of football results. Once United won I felt Chelsea would slip up and they did, providing spurs 3 more vital points. Both Everton and Villa won so the weekend was quite poor. Then the news on Sunday that Torres will miss 6 weeks and end his season. All I did was simply shake my head and say out loud, what is next?

So we need the 3 points and no better team to come Anfield when we need 3 points then this lot. Liverpool dominated from start to finish, West Ham's only real chance came when Carlton Carl was a good yard offside (missed by the assistant). Other then that they were awful. Liverpool had 3 or 4 penalty decisions turned down by a man who has his retirement extended by two years two long in my book. The man in the middle had a very easy game tonight and still missed an awful lot. For once it didn't cost us. I thought Kuyt was our best player, closely followed by Gerrard. The lineup was a bit of a surprise to me in that Mascherano was not on the from start but it was a line-up that pushed West Ham easily aside. I also felt that Johnson and Maxi combined very well on the right hand side. Maxi, and our big greek at the back, should help to show the supporters the kind of shrewd business Rafa can pull off working on a almost zero pound transfer budget. Both of they players combined cost less then 2 million pounds.

Another player who did ok tonight was Ngog. The 1.5 million French Striker took his goal well, showed good movement and was a willing runner all night long. He still does make some very poor choices and I would prefer to see a seasoned Premier League striker to come an replace Torres when he is hurt but overall he did well.

I don't think Ngog will play on Thursday however. I think he will go back to Kuyt and Gerrard up front, with Babel and Yossi on the sides, paired with Lucas and Mascherano. I thought Rafa made some interesting changes. I was surprised to see Masch come on from Gerrard and not our Italian, Alberto Aquilani. Aquilaniust consider his future at the club and I wouldn't be surprised to see him move on during the summer.

I find it unbelievable that the Premier League asked us to play today, on a Monday and then go travel to play another mid week game in the semi-final of the Uefa Cup. Surely today's game could have been moved. I understand they didn't know about the volcano but given those events it know looks like Liverpool must travel by hook and crook to get to Madrid. I suppose now the players might understand what the supporters go through to get to a Euro destination.

Finally, welcome news on Friday of last week that the two American muppets have decided to sell. Of course, they will try to bleed the new owners dry in the negotiations process and whomever does by the club will need a good rinse off after dealing with those two. Hopefully the BA chairman can broker a deal that has the best interest of the supporters. We don't need a sugar daddy, like Man City and Chelsea did, we just need some stability and someone who stays out of the lime light and backs up their investment with a new stadium and player transfer kitties.

I believe that the constant protests by our supporters played a role in their decision to sell. Of course, Manchester's united green and gold will get all the attention but those in charge of the protests and those who protest should take a bow. Get out of our club now!

About
Kevin Brodie Kevin Brodie has been fortunate enough to see some of Liverpool’s greatest teams and players in action over the last 35 years. Reds fans are spoiled for choice in trying to pick their favourite memory. The best early memory I have of watching Liverpool in person was our 7-0 thrashing of Spurs, with the 7th goal being a thing of beauty. Watching us in 89 lift the FA Cup after the terrible disaster at Hillsborough was also very special. My favourite Liverpool moment on the TV has to be the Champions League final in 2005. It was a day I will never forget.
