So nice to see Liverpool’s number 9 back in action against Blackburn on Sunday. He was marvellous in the first half, tired in the second, but was still excellent overall. He just gives us a totally new dimension and we desperately need him to stay healthy in the run in.
Liverpool played very well at times but for some reason in the second half we just couldn’t seem to get a hold of the ball and were guilty of giving the ball away up front. This allowed Blackburn to pump ball after ball into our box, and with the ref giving Reina almost zero protection it was a sound tactic.
Blackburn played some decent football at times, however this was pretty much the basic route one stuff wrapped with a very physical approach. How they managed to finish the game with 11 players is anyone’s guess.
I thought our best player was Mascherano. He was very good helping out down the wing in attack from his full-back position and a terror at the back, at times he was everywhere. I was hoping before the match that Rafa would play him at right back, with Alberto in the middle, Lucas and Torres up top with Gerrard, with Kuyt on the right. I was almost correct for once, but Alberto missed out.
This game also had that added spice of the obvious dislike between the two managers. Really, their managers comments are not even worth talking about but Rafa’s post match comments were fantastic.
