Liverpool

Well that was a bit more like it. This was never going to be a night when we out passed Spurs but what we did do was out run and out hustle them, from the first whistle to the last whistle. In speaking of whistles we even had a bit of help from the man in the middle. This made for a nice change after some of the awful decision that have come our way this season.

Aquilani was much better in his advanced role last night and Dirk Kuyt must have ran a marathon. Typically I don't think he is a good selection for the lone striker role, but last night he excelled at it. He actually probably took the hardest chance of the lot when he slotted in Liverpool's opening goal after 6 minutes. He went on to miss 3 easier chances to finish the game off, but kept his nerve with two well taken penalties in minute 90.

The crowd were right behind the reds before the kick off. The supporters showing their support for both the team and the manager! Chants of Rafa Rafa were a constant during the game so hopefully a few pundits around the world took note of how the majority of match going reds feel about him. The 14 men on the field last night played for the shirt on their back and the manager. Clearly this was a not a manager who has lost the dressing room as they fought and hustled during the match.
Rierra, Deggen, Vornin
Liverpool did not play pretty football but we did have many good chances to score, most of which were created from sheer determination, led from the excellent Jamie Carragher. My man of the match last night was the big Greek. I thought he did a great job on Crouch all night long and Defoe was a non factor. , It was also good to have Riera in the starting line up as he gave us some much needed width on the left. Hehad a strong desire to run at them, which is something we have lacked on that side for a while. I also thought Degen had a solid game, although my god he should have had a shot when put in front of goal by Kuyt. To his credit he kept on going as he took a battering from the Spurs players all night long.

A quick note about the Defoe non goal. Personally I didn't think it was a foul, but when the ball was played he was offside and the lino should have flagged right then. He took an advantage from that point on so I think he is offisde..but that is the problem..No one understand the rule. I don't feel sorry for Spurs..let's remember when Voronin got Rugby tackled at their place this year (twice).

Overall it was a much needed 3 points. We are not out of the woods yet by any stretch but it was a solid step in the right direction

It was definitely a goal for Defoe, and at a crucial time. You also have to mention the pen incident on Crouch, but you wouldn't expect any more from Webb at Anfield. However, although neither team played particularly well, Liverpool shaded it for their running and work ethic. Yet again Tottenham didn't even bother to turn up against a weakened Sky4 side away from home. But, we still sit in 4th (until Citeh overtake us!)

your a shit team and you do not know about football defoe goal was good and we will finish 4

you are really looking thruogh liverpool red glasses with that final comment every law and rule in the game deemed that a perfect goal

No, I will bet you Dirk did not run a marathon.

"My man of the match last night was the Greek". Maybe that statement would have some merit if you knew his actual name.

P.S. "Vornin" is actually spelled Voronin, but you probably don't know that anyway.

Kuyt does not do a good job as a loan striker? Where exactly was he at loan to?

Posted by andrew on 01/22/2010

its clear that whether we play well (like v Man U last season) or badly (like the other night) that we're NOT ALLOWED to beat one of the top four when Webb is refereeing the game. Its a disgrace how English football is so corrupt yet noone does anything about it, just like Liverpool lost the league last year thanks to Howard Webb

Spot on! You have been spot on all season and the last two post I couldnt agree with more. The players played for the jersey and the manager! I was a bagger of the manager a couple of years ago but now I see he has a passion for the club and never quits working or giving up! Keep the post coming love them!

Never Walk alone,
Jerry

Please learn to spell our players names correctly if you want to report professionally on them, otherwise give it up

liverpool must move fowarde..they must sign new striker..i think liverpool must sign moruane chamakh..he will give a new dimension to liverpool squad..better signing him than pay for jones

Dream on, you couldn't do it WITH Torres and Gerrard so you won't do it without them. You ONLY beat Spurs due to anti-Tottenham ref Howard Webb not giving two penalties and disallowing the Defoe goal for no good reason.

4th spot is a straight battle between Spurs and Man City

You are one of the worst bloggers on this website. It takes you 2 plus days to post reaction to a match, your writing is plagued with spelling errors, i.e. Rierra, Deggen, Vornin. Also note your horrific misuse of the language in this stunningly pathetic attempt "suites the loan striker role", try "suits the lone striker role". Please respond to this for grammar lessons, and have some respect for yourself, other fans, and journalism and get your match comments up a little quicker.

a very polite win after an awful period but all the same congrats to all the players and they have to continue with that spirit although ve said it before if any of the lads gets a shooting chance of the goal, then go for it!!!

KOP FAN KENYA

LOL.. they played for the shirt on their backs and the manager??? LMAO!! So who did they play for in today's game against Wolves??? A game they needed more than the Spurs game! Your constant defense of the fat Spanish pile of trash is becoming comical! Lucrap running around lost.. 20mil Italian bench warmer..the constant use of 2 DMF (one of them being utter garbage Lucrap) when we need to WIN games not play for the tie! Rafa is a garbage manager but fans like you hold us back by supporting garbage. I bet you loved Houllier too just bcuz he was our manager! (His team won the CL btw.. so he should be our manager today by your logic!) People like you are why we continue to wallow in mediocrity. Bcuz you accept sub-standard garbage and support it just bcuz it wears the shirt.

Hilarious!

About
Kevin Brodie Kevin Brodie has been fortunate enough to see some of Liverpool’s greatest teams and players in action over the last 35 years. Reds fans are spoiled for choice in trying to pick their favourite memory. The best early memory I have of watching Liverpool in person was our 7-0 thrashing of Spurs, with the 7th goal being a thing of beauty. Watching us in 89 lift the FA Cup after the terrible disaster at Hillsborough was also very special. My favourite Liverpool moment on the TV has to be the Champions League final in 2005. It was a day I will never forget.
