Liverpool

Liverpool got a much needed 3 points in their home match with Wigan last night. Much of the attention around this match was celebrating that has been 50 years since the great Bill Shankly walked through the Anfield doors.
Many famous players of the two FA Cup winning teams during Shankly's era were on the field for a celebration of the great man.

Liverpool did exactly what Bill Shankly would have wanted and expected, they won. They didn't do it with ease however. After Ngog scored a well taken goal in minute 10 you just hoped that Liverpool would get a quick second goal and have the type of game that they needed; the three points and a positive display. While they did get the 3 points the 2nd goal took a long time in coming and Liverpool were hardly confident. Of course, we had some good performers, mainly Masch and NGog, along with a couple of good attempts by Kuyt but overall our play was sloppy. When Torres came on replace NGog we did look dangerous again. Once Torres scored I thought that would be game over but some terrible defending but 4 Liverpool players allowed them to get a goal back with 2 minutes of injury time to go. It shouldn't' have been this close but it was as Anfield (and parts of California held their breath). Finally the ref blew his whistle and we had achieved a victory at Anfield.

Our ball retention is poor, we don't shoot enough and when we do it's from crazy distances (See Mascherano). Yossi has been our best player over the 2009 calendar year but he needs to shoot more when he gets in the box. Lucas is a tidy player but i can't remember the last time he has an actual shot on goal. I will say one thing, we didn't miss Glenn Johnson last night. Sure he gets forward well but I want our right back to defend first and attack second.

Finally, I will sign off with if you are going to right emails to me complaining about Rafa save yourself the time and don't bother.

About
Kevin Brodie Kevin Brodie has been fortunate enough to see some of Liverpool’s greatest teams and players in action over the last 35 years. Reds fans are spoiled for choice in trying to pick their favourite memory. The best early memory I have of watching Liverpool in person was our 7-0 thrashing of Spurs, with the 7th goal being a thing of beauty. Watching us in 89 lift the FA Cup after the terrible disaster at Hillsborough was also very special. My favourite Liverpool moment on the TV has to be the Champions League final in 2005. It was a day I will never forget.
