good win and a good solid performance yesterday at villa park. A draw probably would have been a fair result but for the first team all season the ball actually bounced our way at the key moment. The ball also bounced directly into our path of our key striker who really did have a poor evening until his 93rd minute finish. That is what top strikers are paid to do and he did it with aplomb.
Liverpool huffed and puffed and did well at snuffing out Villa's wing. Insua had one of his best games in some time at left back while Carragher and Agger were very solid at the back. I thought Johnson was terrible and I feel he has been terrible for weeks. Gerrard also had one of his best games in some time and he had the shot of the half but Friedel did well to save. Yossi had a good chance but his shot was hit directly at the keeper. Kuyt was completely up ended in the box but the ref waived play on. Villa's big chance of the half came from a set piece, somehow Reina kept out the effort of Downing. Both Dunne and Lucas were booked however Lucas's "foul" was not even a foul, the ref getting that wrong as well.
The second half started even with Liverpool moving the ball the better of the two teams, however with about 70 minutes gone I thought Villa finally took control of the game and had a succession of chances, Carew going wide with a header, Agbonlahor bringing out a good save from Reina and Villa also having a strong hand ball appeal turned down. If the Liverpool foul on Kuyt would have been called I couldn't have had many complaints about that one but as it was not no way was this pk.
The game looked set for a 0-0 draw when up stepped the Torres to finish off the match. It was a game we needed badly. I won't be saying we have turned any corners but it is nice to finally win two on the trot.
Fair play to Villa, they are good side and do get on with the match. their manager is a bit annoying however. Chances were even, liverpool had more possession....to say they should have been out of sight is a bit of a joke really
my man of the match was Steven Gerrard with a close runner up was Carragher
