In bed early on Friday night as it has been two long weeks with out a Liverpool game. The alarm was set at 430 am so I could get up and make a cup of coffee for the 4:45 am. kick off. People think I'm crazy but on a completely personal level I enjoy the early kick off's as I can watch the game with out feeling like I'm taking time away from the kids. The downside of the early games is that if we don't win it makes for an awfully long day of stewing on the result.
2-2 was a fair result. City played well for about 20 minutes which was enough to share the spoils at Anfield.
Well, of course, we didn't win but overall i was not to unhappy with the display. We welcomed our skipper back but he was clearly not match fit. Liverpool dominated the first half with out having any great chances at goal except for one inside of the first 5 minutes. Srktel was on hand to head the ball goalward but Given made a great save. As it is going for us Agger was headbutted as the ball was coming across and he surely would have been in the correct position to tap the ball in after Given's parry but in stead he was in the fetal position in teh 6 yard box. He could not continue so our big Greek defensive back was called into action early. De Jong made a terrible challenge on Babbel also causing him to leave the field. Not only was a red or a yellow card not given but the ref failed to see a foul in this two footed tackle.
Srktel finally got his goal after Gerrard played a fantastic ball over from a free kick that Ngog did well to win. Ngog was often isolated but I felt he had a decent enough game up top. Once we took lead for some reason we just sat back and let City come at us. I think Rafa would have made a change under normal circumstances at this point but his hands were tied because we had already been forced into two subs so early in the match. I felt that City would score as we were awful during this spell. Skrtel was guilty of not clearing the ball and Carragher was forced to concede a corner. Bell's whipped in a decent ball and somehow Adbedyor was left all alone to head past Reina. Once the scored one it was a question of when they would score again, Liverpool were so off the boil at this point.
The goal came minutes later after a good move, Ireland finishing it off, he was just a yard behind the ball so the goal stood.
Liverpool hit back two minutes later and should have gone on in stoppage time to win the game, with Lucas completely missing a free header in stoppage time.
Lucas has been doing OK this year but he clearly lacks confidence in front of goal.
2-2 was a fair result. City played well for about 20 minutes which was enough to share the spoils at Anfield.
