Start of the season.

Sorry about the delay in posting. As many of you know I went back to Liverpool with the wife, and two kids for a two week holiday. While I had a great time with family and friends I think most of you are more interested in the football that was on offer.

The first game was the last pre-season friendly against Athletico Madrid. I had 4 seats together at the half-way line about 15 rows up and my 5 and 2 year old made it through the 90 minutes. The highlight of the match for me is when my 5 year girl stood on her seat, with her pink Torres scarf and belted out YNWA. It was something I will never forget. I was so choked up I couldn’t get finish the song myself.

The match was decent with Madrid playing the better football. Our defense was given a torrid time after Carrragher limped off. We just didn’t look very sharp with Torres having a handful of chances to score.

8 days later I made the trek down to London for the Spurs game. Getting through central London on the tube on a Sunday is always a bit of a chore and this was no exception. After a 3.5 hour drive to the outskirts of London another 2 hour tube ride put us in the ground 30 minutes after kick off. After watching that first half I was half thinking that it would have been better if we had missed the match entirely. Liverpool were shocking in the first half and Spurs played off us off the park. It all started when Carragher and Skrtel jumped for the same ball and had to come off for treatment. Spurs never let us get going and if was not for Reina we would have been a few down in the first half.

When Yossi came in for the truly awful Babel we looked better. When Gerrard converted the spot kick we should have gone on to win the game however Spurs kept coming and took the lead 3 minutes later. Liverpool had two blatant spot kicks turned down, both of which were quite obvious, however it would have an undeserved point had we equalized at 2-2.

The stoke game was much better. Torres easing the worry after 4 minutes. We came out firing, besides for a 10 minute spell in the first half we dominated this game from start to finish. I was in the Kop, the atmosphere was very good and so was the performance on the pitch.

It’s early days and our squad strength is a little weak at this point but hopefully this new Greek defender can give us some much needed height at the back.
