Liverpool

It has been quite a few weeks for the club. The pounding of Real Madrid, United and Villa combined with the late show at Fulham put us back into the title race and into the quarter finals of the champions league. Rafa signed on. Stevie G signed on. Kuyt signed on..even our owners were quiet for a while. Things were going so well, the only hiccup that late United winner last Sunday. All of that good feeling came a cropper last night in the Champions League against Chelsea.

I was not happy when the draw was made. First being at home in the first leg is always difficult and second Chelsea are in fine form since Hiddink took over. I would argue it was the worst possible draw as they know us so well. With Essien back they are a force.

Liverpool started well obviously but once we scored Chelsea were simply much better. Sure they scored two of the simplest goals you will see from two corners but they had other chances in open play. The first half was pretty even. We had some good chances as well, the best one falling to Kuyt right after Chelsea scored but his effort should have been hit to the far post. Had we scored directly after their goal the game might have changed but as it was they dominated the second half.

That was probably the best performance by an away team in some time. They won most 50/50 balls, they had more pace down the wings and they made our defense look shaky. Skirtel and our Brazilian left back had two of their worst games from Liverpool in some time, however they were not alone. Gerrard was completely marked out of the match by Essien and I felt he wasn't fit. Torres tried his best up front but with out Gerrard helping him he didn't stand a chance. Lucas was over powered and Reira was poor. Kuyt was our best player on the day but even he tired.

I know as Liverpool supporters we can never give up hope but surely this tie is beyond us. Personally I would play a mix of kids and veterans and see what happens next week. Saturday is the game we need to be focused in on from this point.

Credit to the supporters last night who were in great voice, singing right up to the end.

Finally, John Terry must be joking. I watched him crash into Reina on purpose to he couldn't release the ball quickly and then complain about the booking. John Terry has zero class. This is the same guy who spits on players and lets not forget his stamp on Torres last year. I for one actually wish he was playing next week because I think he is their weak link. I couldn't think of a better person to have missed that pk in last years final. What comes around goes around..
