Liverpool

Well the last few weeks have been pretty decent to say the least. I was so pleased when Rafa had his contract extended for another 4 years plus the 1 left to work with us to 2013. It was great news during a non-football week.

After Fulham beat United on Saturday Liverpool's game against Villa was even more nerve racking. Liverpool started out well and were rewarded with an early goal. Gerrard could have added a second after a deflected cross. Once Villa got past that early pressure they were the better side for the next 20 minutes. Carew was causing us all kind of problems and Reina was forced into making a couple of fine saves.

Villa took a free kick with most forward that was floated to Reina. His 80 yard punt was met after one bounce by Riera who powered the ball home. From that point the game was over. Riera was giving Villa a very tough time and he was brought down for the third. Liverpool cruised the second half with a free kick and another pen converted by Gerrard. Friedel was sent off for a professional foul against Torres which was a poor decision. I'm pleased to hear that they over turned this today. Liverpool played well even with Torres having an "off" day. In saying that Torres did a lot of great running off the ball and created space for Kuyt and Riera to flourish. Nice to see Agger getting a run out as well.

Liverpool are 1 point behind United with having played a game more After the dreadful defeat to Boro a few weeks back this hardly seemed likely.

The international break is now upon us and we just have to hope that we can keep it going when we return.
